Mortar Placement
Now, as an NCO in the French Poilus squad, you have a lot more firepower than you think. He has the ability to spawn in squadmates in No Man's Land while the team is on the Attack, he has two grenades at Level II, but his most important tool, is the mortar. When you are defending, using a mortar to target enemy NCOs or Machine-Gunners is a good idea, as they will not expect to be singled out by mortars. Should enemies enter a part of the trench in force, call a mortar to the cap point and they will BURN!... sorry. On offense, mortars are more useful for clearing out a specific area of the trench or taking out specific targets, in that sense, similar to a defensive mortar. The difference is, that you will mainly target MG's, snipers, and clusters of soldiers. The mortar is very useful for killing enemies that are ruching towards you team's cap point and this their movement can be predicted and their advance halted or even destroyed by a well placed mortar. Lastly, you can put a mortar near a trench while retreating, causing a normally safe hiding place to be a deadly trap. A tactic that is always useful when playing with friends in a squad or people who are using the squad voice chat, is to call an attack order on the place where you called in the mortars to alert your squad mates and help them plan their next move. It's also important to note that there are three different types of mortars. There are Mortars (Level 1-49) that fire a short, concentrated salvo, Sector Artillery (Level 50-99) that fires a protracted salvo over a large area in terms of width and finally, Creeping Barrage (Level 100) that fires a protracted salvo over an area larger than Sector Artillery that is fired in length across the map. The concept of Creeping Barrage is explained in the name, about three shells are fired with each volley and the impact zone 'creeps' forward a couple of metres each time. Mortars are nice weapons and all... but a good NCO has a better weapon at his disposal...

Working with teammates

you have to remember: NCO stands for "non commisioned OFFICER" which means, you are the one that leads the other three lucky, ungrateful blokes into battle. this is why NCO is a lot more difficult. it can be easier if you use the recon squads to train, but this guide is about polius, so that is what you will learn. since this is an ADVANCED guide, i assume you know about spawning in teammates, if you didnt know that, you have a long road ahead of you. the thing about spawning is, do not spawn people into an MG. take care of it with a mortar or nade, then after announcing that the area is clear, then you can spawn your teammates. there are two types of NCO: the "APC", and the agressive NCO. the APC, as i like to call it, sits near the enemy spawn, and continuously spwans people to run into the trench, putting pressure on the enemy. the second type, the agressive NCO, is the NCO that pushes into the enemy trench, only stopping to spawn in fallen soldiers. i commonly use the second type but you can use any preference that you want. now that we have dealt with spawning your men, how about shooting other guys with them? well, as well as the brood mother of the squad, you are also the team leader. tell your other men where to go, and what to do, unless you have no specific orders. when i am capturing the point, i often send a machine gunner to one side, as i cover the other. the other two soldiers will run around the trench, shooting anyone who tries to get back into the trench. when defending, it requires a little less stratagy. if you have the most powerful weapon in the game the binoculars, you can spot important types of enemies, such as:

NCO's
Riflemen with scopes
machinegunners
melee specialists
submachinegunners
or someone who entered a base

now, i will not cover all the terms of verdun, as someone else probably will make a better guide, but here are a few things:
if you get murdered by multiple people at, lets say left, you say with your squad mic (or discord, if your clan uses that) "breach left". the same thing applies to right, mid, and point. if you see someone important in no man's land, say "___ heading mid/right/left" your team can handle the rest. that is unless...
Guns
Ruby: a highly accurate pistol that takes two hits to kill someone. my favorite gun

Binoculars: the best weapon in the game. can be used to counteract bad FOV and spot special enemies to put a marker on them.

NADES: usually given to the greNADEier class, the NCO can be equiped with two, and you too can spam NADES into enemy filled trenches.

Berthier rifle: i am not too good with rifles, but if you prefer a more classical verdun playstyle, then by all means, take it. bayonet included.
how to deal with the pesky germ-men
Mortar NCO: you are your own worst enemy. they have similar weapons to you, have the same mortars, and can spawn people in.
Recon NCO: other people can spawn him in, so he is less alert.
Assault NCO: beware his deadly poison gas, and the fact the he has deadlier teammates

Rifleman: standard troopers that depend on skill.
Machinegunner: has the most powerful MG in the game so far. take him out ASAP!
GreNADEier: an offensive class that throws lots of NADES
Submachinegunner: uses an SMG to mow down entire lanes. be agile to defeat him.
Snipers: spend most of their time sitting in their trench. they can kill you easily, but do not give much of a tactical advantage to their comrades.
Melee specialists: due to the nerf on melee, they have become less effective. still, their shovel and/or knife can do plenty of damage. they also come with NADES or a pistol.

Spotter: basically just like a rifleman, with binoculars that dont do too much if you have good FOV.
Flammenwerfer: he has both a flamethrower and a deagsrevolver, but their flames can block their vision. gun them down like the rampaging bulls they are.

i hope this helped somewhat
