TRON RUN/r
Troubleshooting
All advice applies as of the July 21, 2016 update for TRON RUN/r.

  • I can't get TRON RUN/r to start. (Crashes, Unknown error, or nothing happens)

Make sure you meet the minimum system requirements of the game.

If TRON RUN/r started crashing at the title screen since the July 21, 2016 update, see the Known Fixes section of this guide.

Also check the Known Fixes section, for a potential solution to the Log into a user account to continue error, and for those who updated from Early Access to the full game release that are experiencing a game crash.

    OS: Windows 10/8.1/8/7 64-bit
(A 64-bit version of Windows is required. TRON RUN/r may also work on Windows Vista, but this hasn't been tested.)

Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD, 2.5 GHz or faster
(TRON RUN/r will probably run on a dual-core CPU, but this hasn't been tested or confirmed.)

    Memory: 8 GB RAM
(The store page claims 8 GB, but has been tested and works with 4 GB as of July 21, 2016 update. Unknown if the game will work with less than 4 GB.)

Graphics: DirectX 11 compatible graphics card
(Some owners with Intel HD integrated graphics report not being able to get the game to start, despite the fact that their integrated GPU is supposed to support DirectX 11. The game's window briefly appears and then closes.)

    DirectX: Version 11
(For Windows 7, DirectX 11 should have been downloaded via Windows Update. Windows 10/8.1/8 already include DirectX 11.)

    Network: Broadband Internet connection

    Storage: 5 GB available space
(The store page claims 5 GB, but as of the July 21, 2016 update it's actually closer to 10 GB.)

  • TRON RUN/r requires a 64-bit CPU and 64-bit version of Windows. How do I find out if I have these?

Open the Control Panel in Windows. Click on System and Security > System.

Look for the System type entry. It should say 64-bit Operating System and x64-based processor.

If you don't have a 64-bit CPU, you will not be able to play TRON RUN/r. If you have a 64-bit CPU but a 32-bit version of Windows, you will need to upgrade to a 64-bit version of the OS.

  • TRON RUN/r requires a video card/chip GPU that supports DirectX 11. How do I find out if mine supports it?

Hold down the Windows and R keys at the Windows desktop. A window titled Run should appear. Type dxdiag and press Enter.

After the DirectX Diagnostic Tool finishes scanning your hardware, click the Display tab.

Look for either DDI Version or Feature Levels on the right side of the window in the Drivers section. If it shows 11.0 or higher, then your GPU supports DirectX 11.

  • I see an error message about needing the DirectX Runtime. Where can I get this?

It's possible you may still need to download and install the DirectX runtime to avoid this error.

You can download it from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

After you click the Download button, remove the checkmark beside any selected downloads on the left, then click the No thanks and continue button to start the download.

Install the downloaded .exe, and the game should start.

  • I see a message stating that Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Runtime is required, before I can start the game. Where can I get this?

You can download it from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

After you click the Download button, place a checkmark beside vcredist_x64.exe and then click Next.

Install the downloaded .exe, and the game should start.

  • There doesn't seem to be any option to quit the game.

The April 8, 2016 update to the game added a way to quit TRON RUN/r, without having to return to the title screen. If playing with a keyboard and mouse, hit the Esc key to pause the game and then press the Q key to quit. If playing with an Xbox 360/One controller, press the Start button and then the Y button.

If on the title screen, you can quit the game by pressing Esc and then the Enter key.

  • The game performs poorly.

If you're experiencing a slowdown when you destroy a green wall in the Disc 02 level, please check the Known Fixes section of this guide for a potential fix.

If the game does not run well in general, after loading a level you can hit the Esc key in-game to make a menu appear. Select Options > Video.

The second option in this new menu screen lets you change the graphical detail level the game uses. Epic is the highest detail level, Low sets the lowest detail level. Lower the detail setting or resolution to improve performance.

  • Can I rebind the controls in the game?

TRON RUN/r allows use of both keyboard and mouse, as well as controllers (360 and Xbox One pads, maybe others). The July 21, 2016 update finally added in-game rebinding of mouse and keyboard controls, though binding more than the first 3 mouse buttons is not possible. Controller rebinding in-game is also not possible. (Please see the Tweaks section of the guide for instructions on alternate ways to rebind a controller.)

  • Does TRON RUN/r support 21:9 aspect ratio Ultrawide resolutions?

Yes, according to this message post:
    http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/392000/discussions/0/392184522712823609/#c371919771744336193

  • While playing in Stream mode (endless running), I keep instantly derezzing with no warning after about 40 minutes of gameplay!

This is a bug in the game, that hasn't been fixed as of the July 21, 2016 update.

  • Why is it that some of the leaderboards, the Stream mode weekly challenge, and in-game Store (where you can buy bits with real money) aren't working?

Disney officially dropped support for leaderboards (in Stream mode), the weekly challenge, and the in-game Store on May 1, 2017. The leaderboards in other modes (Disc, Cycle, Outlands) continue to work for now, but this may not last.

Fixes
All fixes apply as of the July 21, 2016 update for TRON RUN/r.

  • After the July 21, 2016 update was released for TRON RUN/r, the game started crashing on the title screen! What can I do to fix it?

This is due to the July 21, 2016 update not being compatible with your previously saved games from older updates. Unfortunately, in order to stop the game from crashing, you will need to delete your saved games and lose all your progress. Steam user dagr has put together a guide with instructions on how to delete your saves.

    http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=734367081
There has also been a report that disabling Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender (or any other anti-virus, for that matter) may help prevent crashes.

  • When I start TRON RUN/r, I see a screen that says "Log into a user account to continue". What's going on, and how do I fix this?

Apparently, TRON RUN/r does not support certain keyboard layouts other than QWERTY, as of the May 31, 2016 update. If your keyboard layout is set to AZERTY in Windows, or something other than QWERTY, you may see this error screen.

The easiest solution to this seems to be setting TRON RUN/r to run in English.

  • Right-click TRON RUN/r in your Steam Games Library list.
  • On the menu that appears, click Properties.
  • Click the Language tab.
  • Use the drop-down menu to select English, and then click Close.

If you don't want to be forced to play the game in English, you can try pressing the Shift and Alt keys simultaneously, or Ctrl and Shift keys simultaneously, before you start the game. This will allow you to quickly change between Windows keyboard layouts if you have more than one layout installed.

If you don't have QWERTY installed as a secondary keyboard layout, here are some links to tutorials.

    Windows 7
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/86239-keyboard-layout-change.html

    Windows 8.1/8
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/13677-input-method-set-default-language-windows-8-a.html

    Windows 10
    http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3813-language-add-remove-change-windows-10-a.html

While the game may work after changing your keyboard layout in Windows to QWERTY, you will likely find the movement and action keys to be awkwardly positioned because you don't actually have a real, physical QWERTY keyboard. You've just mapped a QWERTY layout to your physical keyboard.

As a workaround, you can rebind the keys in the game to something less awkward. See the Tweaks section of the guide below, on how to rebind the keys in the game.

  • After destroying a green wall in the Disc 02 level, the game starts performing very poorly and doesn't recover. Is there anything I can do about this?

    http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/392000/discussions/0/492379439678112548/#c357287935542341421

According to the message post linked above, if you hit the Esc key to pause the game and wait a while, then resume the game, the frame rate will recover and you'll be able to continue playing.

Use this as a workaround until Disney/Sanzaru fix the issue. It has still not been fixed as of the July 21, 2016 update.

  • I bought the Season Pass/Ultimate Upgrade for TRON RUN/r, but I'm not seeing the 11K Bit Pack bonus in the game. How do I access it?

Unfortunately, if you made progress in the game before you bought and installed the Season Pass/Ultimate Upgrade: you will have to start over with a new game and lose your progress. This should allow you to access the bit pack.

  • I bought TRON RUN/r in Early Access, and updated to the full release version. But the game crashes when I start it. Is there any fix for this?

The default folder where Steam keeps the TRON RUN/r asset files is:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tron Escape\TronGame\Content\Paks

Use the Windows File Explorer to go into that folder, and delete all the .pak files except for the largest TronGame-WindowsNoEditor.pak file. This should solve the issue.

  • When I play TRON RUN/r, it's only allowing me to see the levels from Early Access and not showing the content from the full game. How do I fix this?

This happens if you were provided with a Beta Steam key to activate the game. Contact Steam support to see about updating the game to the full release.
Tweaks
All tweaks apply as of the July 21, 2016 update for TRON RUN/r.

Before you attempt any tweaks, follow these first steps. They are the starting point for all .ini edits you'll be doing.
  • Run the Windows File Explorer.
  • Copy and paste the following text into the Windows File Explorer address bar.

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\TronGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

  • Press Enter. You will be opening one or more of the .ini files in the WindowsNoEditor folder, in a text editor.

Now you can follow the specific instructions for each tweak, which require editing various .ini files.

NOTE: You may need to set the .ini files you edit to Read-only, to prevent the game from resetting the changes you make back to their defaults.

  • What's an alternative way to rebind my controls?

  • Open the Input.ini file in a text editor.
  • Add the following lines if you're using an AZERTY keyboard.

    [/script/engine.inputsettings] AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_SlideForward",Key=Z,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_SlideForward",Key=S,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_SlideForward",Key=Up,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_SlideForward",Key=Down,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="MoveRight",Key=Q,Scale=-1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="MoveRight",Key=D,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="MoveRight",Key=Left,Scale=-1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="MoveRight",Key=Right,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_SlideLeft",Key=A,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_SlideRight",Key=E,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_Jump",Key=RightMouseButton,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_Jump",Key=SpaceBar,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_ThrowL",Key=Enter,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Disc_ThrowL",Key=LeftMouseButton,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Accelerate",Key=SpaceBar,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Accelerate",Key=RightMouseButton,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Drift",Key=LeftControl,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Drift",Key=RightControl,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Drift",Key=LeftMouseButton,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Throw",Key=E,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Trick",Key=A,Scale=1.000000) AxisMappings=(AxisName="Cycle_Trick",Key=MiddleMouseButton,Scale=1.000000)

  • Now you can customize every keyboard or mouse control, rebinding each to your preferred key/button by editing the key listed behind Key= on every line and then saving your changes. It's possible to bind more than one key to each game movement or action.

  • It's also possible to rebind 360/One and possibly other controller inputs this way. An explanation on how to do this will appear in a future update to this guide. But for now, you can follow the instructions below.

With the program x360ce you can at least rebind controller keys and use any controller of your choice as an Xbox 360 Controller:

    1. Get the 64bit version here: http://www.x360ce.com/
    2. Extract the .exe file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tron Escape\TronGame\Binaries\Win64
    3. Run x360ce_x64.exe and follow the instructions to set up your controller.

  • How do I remove the frame rate limit, so I can get higher than 60 FPS?

  • Open the Engine.ini file in a text editor.
  • Add the following lines if you want to completely remove any frame limit.

    [/script/engine.engine]
    bSmoothFrameRate=False

  • If you would rather raise the FPS lock higher, because you want to maintain a steady frame rate (if your computer can handle it, that is) rather than having the FPS fluctuate when the limit is completely turned off like above, add the following lines instead.

    [/script/engine.engine]
    bSmoothFrameRate=True
    MinSmoothedFrameRate=30
    MaxSmoothedFrameRate=120

Adding these lines will set the frame rate limit to 120 FPS, but tell the game to try and maintain a steady 120 FPS if it can, and also not allow the frame rate to drop below 30 FPS if it can. Of course, you can change the Max and Min values to whatever you want.

Now save your changes for this to take effect.

  • How can I turn off the game's built-in Anti-Aliasing?

If you don't like the built-in Temporal AA aka TAA anti-aliasing method (similar to Nvidia's TXAA) that TRON RUN/r uses, then follow the steps below to turn it off.

  • Open the GameUserSettings.ini file in a text editor.
  • Add the following line at the end of the [ScalabilityGroups] section so it looks something like below.

    [ScalabilityGroups]
    sg.OverallQuality=X
    sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0

  • Your [ScalabilityGroups] section may look slightly different. The X represents the graphics quality setting in the game. Adding sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0 will turn off anti-aliasing. Save your changes for this to take effect.

Now you can try and force or inject your own type of AA. Be aware that TRON RUN/r is an Unreal Engine 4 game using DirectX 11, so your options will be limited. But forced SSAA seems to work, and Nvidia's DSR or AMD's VSR may also work.

  • How can I disable the game's glow effect (Bloom)?

If you find the foggy glow in the game to be too distracting, you can turn it off.

  • Add the following lines to the Engine.ini file.

    [/script/engine.renderersettings]
    r.BloomQuality=0

  • Save the changes you've made. The glow effect in the game should be gone now.

  • How can I move PhysX acceleration from the CPU to my Nvidia GPU?

  • Add the following lines to the Engine.ini file.

    [/script/engine.engine]
    bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=False

  • Save the changes you've made. The game should now use your Nvidia GPU for PhysX.

@[MSU] Spartan You don't need to run UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe manually. That happens automatically when you start the game from Steam for the first time.

The .ini files won't appear until TRON RUN/r has been run at least once. When the .ini files are created, they won't be in the Tron Escape folder.

You need to copy and paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\TronGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor into your Windows File Explorer address bar and press Enter, as mentioned in the guide. Then you will be in the right folder and be able to see the .ini files, if you've run the game already.

Good day. I just discovered Tron Run/r and since I'm a Steam customer, I bought the basic
version (not demo) from them. Your tweaks mention ini files, but I have no ini files in my
installation of the game.
The game installation dir is 'steamapps/common/Tron Escape, and I have a few executables,
some dll's , and movies, a 'build.properties' (?) file, a 'UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe' file,
and a 'TronGame-Win64-Shipping.exe' file.
Should I be running the prereqsetup exe ?

@LDSO Thanks for the response. Really appreciate your hardwork :)
LDSO  [author] 27 Dec, 2017 @ 11:33am
@Fascassinator Got it. I understand what you mean, now. (Sorry it took so long to get back to this.)

I'll keep investigating, but so far it looks like a simple .ini file edit won't work. The game seems to more-or-less be hard-coded to only accept input from the right stick of a controller, to rotate the character and light cycle models on the customization screen.
FSCN8TR 16 Dec, 2017 @ 9:33pm
@LDSO What I mean is, the customize section where you can enter before you play a level ( the one where the GUI has 3 menu of Play, Customize, Leaderboard ) when you enter that menu, you can change your light line, character, and light cycle. The last one is what I actually mentioned. I saw on YouTube where you can spin/turn the light cycle model around in the UI. That's what I am wondering how do you turn the model with QWERTY keyboard instead of a controller.
LDSO  [author] 11 Dec, 2017 @ 8:28pm
@Fascassinator I'm not entirely sure I understand your question correctly. But it sounds like you want to rebind the keys that control the Light Cycle.

If so, you hit the Esc key while playing a level. Then select Options > Controls. Now press the E key, to move to the Light Cycle control menu. Use the arrow keys to move up and down, and press Enter to start rebinding a particular key.

How can I turn around the light cycle models in customize mode? I'm using QWERTY keyboard.
