tl;dr tl;dr
1. Don't get seen.
2. Get seen badly, if you can't avoid being seen.
3. If you are seen, shoot first.
4. Defend or capture the objective.
Use common sense.
What would you do in real life?
Imagine Insurgency is real. You'd use common sense if you want to return home.
  • You wouldn't peak corners if bullets passed two seconds ago.

  • Use iron sights in CQB situations. You don't need a scope to shoot an enemy in the crotch, right next to you.

  • Spot the enemies before they can spot you. Maximize your field of view (FOV), literally. Don't stand behind a doorway, with your gun in plain sight.

  • Camp. If you can see the enemy without being seen, you will win. That's how people usually don't get shot in the face.

  • Cover your teammates. "Let's split up" only happens in horrid horror flicks where everyone gets murdered.

  • Get over your insecurities and use your mic to communicate with your teammates. You wouldn't lower your gun to text message your teammates about the enemy in front of you.

  • You wouldn't run with a knife in a war zone.
Hence: "You don't bring a knife to a gunfight." -The Untouchables

  • Use smoke grenades. Not being seen enhances your bullet-evading powers.

  • Engage suppressive fire in smoke. Smoke usually means enemy activity.

  • Engage suppressive fire to slow down enemies. It's easier to hit non-moving targets.

  • Defend the objective. Defending the objective is your only way of survival. You won't outlive a LMS against a 6-wave-remaining-team, while in a bush.

  • Attack the objective. Capturing the objective is your only way of survival. You won't outlive a LMS against a 6-wave-remaining-team, while in a bush.

  • Stand while throwing lethal explosives. You can't throw far while proned.

  • "The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." —Sun Tzu

Summed up...don't die. Once you learn how not to die you can learn how to kill.

A handy set of basics for people starting out. It would be nice to see a follow on dealing with unit and individual tactics for successful play. Effective communication, mutual fire support, outflanking enemy counter-attacks, correct employment of sniper and machine gun support, clearing buildings and built up areas, staging unit advances, optimal criss-crossing fields of automatic weapons fire, how to correctly rotate the fire between individuals within a unit, those sorts of issues.

Probably in groups of two or more. You won't go solo in war unless you're Simo Häyhä.
