Basics and Advanced Performance Tips
By Chillazar
This guide is meant to give you a list of stuff that needs to be checked and things that you could try out for yourself to get the best performance without making the game look worse.

1. Introduction
Many people complain about this game being unplayable even with High-End or Enthusiast PCs. Most of them are honestly just too dumb to use a PC and its potential. This game is neither unfinished nor completely bad optimised.
Just a few steps need to be done to make this game work even on some cheap rigs (I know someone who made this game run on a laptop with a GTX 820M).
If you check the following stuff to do, you should be able to get rid of stutters or crashes in-game.

Here are my Specs for reference:
CPU: FX-8320 @4,2 GHz
GPU: R9 290 1100MHz/1400MHz
RAM: 8GB @1600MHz
OS: Windows 10 64bit on an SSD

I get 70 to 110 FPS with that.
2. Checklist
These things are absolutely necessary, not only for BO3 but for the best experience in all games. Some of this is just obvious.
  1. Know your hardware (important are cores and VRAM)
  2. Install latest Beta Driver for your GPU
  3. Keep your PC fresh & clean - Use CCleaner to fix your registry errors.
  4. (optional) Defrag or optimise your HDD/SSD
  5. Close your Browser or any other unimportant apps.
  6. Use Fullscreen

Else I might recommend to use software like Razor Cortex to clear RAM and close background processes temporary.
3. Important .ini tweaks
If you haven't read about that, you'll find the config.ini in the game folder under "players". I recommend to get Notepad++ to edit this. Not sure about that, but I think the .ini will only be there if you have started the game at least once before.

  • MouseFilter and MouseAcceleration gotta be 0
  • CorpseCount should be maximum 12
  • MaxFrameLatency should be 1
  • VideoMemory on 1 unless you use the GTX 970
  • AutoRestoreFullscreen on 1, if you use fullscreen obviously

For crashes in-game, the reduced CorpseCount is the solution.
For low-end systems, the config.ini needs to be changed, but I'm not gonna do that yet. There are plenty of other guides doing that.
4. In-game settings
First of all, don't activate Vsync unless you have really bad tearing. The FPS limit probably isn't that important, but you might want to set it a bit above your highest possible FPS in the game.

Now to the advanced settings. Here is important to know how much VRAM you have. The game is taking a lot of it. To know which Texture quality you can handle, look at the graphic

  • Texture Quality should never be on Extra unless you have more than 6GB VRAM
  • Texture Filtering makes almost no difference in FPS on high-end systems, else go for low
  • Same goes for Mesh Quality
  • Shadow Map Quality can either be on Extra or High with a high-end system
  • Dynamic Shadows can be turned off, but are useful for prefiring enemies
  • Subsurface Scattering caused problems for me. Try it out for yourself in-game
  • Order Independent Transparacy should be turned off unless you have a GTX 900 GPU
  • Anti-Aliasing should be off or on FXAA for low-end systems, else I'd set it to T2x. Filmic can be used, but it makes everything look blurry
  • Ambient Occlusion should be on Medium for most users
  • I recommend disabling Motion Blur just for a better look. It has no FPS impact though

5. Tools and tricks
Overclocking
There are still more ways to get more FPS. One of them is too simply overclock your GPU and CPU like I did. Easier to OC would probably be the GPU. For that you have to get MSI Afterburner.
With that, the first thing to do is just play the game and check out the games maximum temperature. If it doesn't go over 70°C on the base clocks, you could raise your core clock (not memory clock) in small steps of 10MHz. If you get blackscreens, you have to reduce the speed after restart. If it runs fine, you can get it up to 80°C with some GPUs by overclocking.
Some games might make your GPU hotter, so watch out for that.

Parking Cores
Process Lasso is a useful tool for some games. It's primary used to unpark your CPU cores. This feature is only necessary for CPUs with more than 4 cores or Intel CPUs with HyperThreading.
In this game, you might want to park your cores, by disabling all non-physical cores. This gave my FX-8320 10 FPS more. I don't know how this will affect i7 CPUs. Anyways, try it out. It won't do any harm and you can easily undo it. You can also change your priority setting with this.

Driver Settings (AMD only)
Unfortunately I can only do this for AMDs Catalyst and Crimson driver. So far I couldn't find out how much it helps, but I did following things: I disabled Tessalation and set the anistropic filtering to performance.
Try it out for yourself. If you use Crimson, you might also want to check out the new Shader option.
6. Final Words
If you still have big issues I probably can't help you, but you can add me for questions. Else I'd like to know if you have some other tricks up your sleeve.
I'm probably gonna update this guide to make it a bit more newbie-friendly.

ON TOP OF these adjustments, I think the easiest and frankly FIRST thing that should be done is to use the T7 community patch Shiversoftdev made. You can find it on Github and it's dead simple to install. There's a separate .exe file for windows users, or if your're a Linux user (or if you don't want a separate .exe file to run before starting your game on windows), there's a zip file containing files you simply drag and drop into your root folder of your game and WHAM BAM. INSTANT FPS boost with the added benefit of your PC not being vulnerable to getting hacked if you play the game nowadays (provided you actually set a network password).

Core clock being maxed out usually isn't a problem but rather a sign of good CPU optimization. 69°C shouldn't be worried about.

My core clock is on it's max, idk what to do i have msi afterburner getting 69 degrees Celsius

bro... you saved my life, got 100-120 fps straight on every map

Just search for the website CPUBoss. It's pretty good for comparing CPUs.

How much would it bring up my performance if I upgrade to a 4460? I would upgrade to a skylake but I want to just get an i5 thats compatible with my current motherboard to save money and time.
Chillazar  [author] 2 Jan, 2016 @ 4:37am
Well, both of these components are pretty low stuff. It's a wonder that the game gets above 30FPS. But yea, upgrading to an i5 would help. Maybe you could also go for an i5-6xxx. If you have some more budget, go for an R9 300 GPU. They have tons of VRAM which is useful for this game.

Currently I'm struggling to get 60fps with a pentium g3258 and r7 265 on the lowest settings. Would upgrading my cpu to an i5 4xxx give me any performance boost or am I screwed?
