Getting your Sheriff
There is a scene in the game where it diverges (slightly for two paths, majorly for the third); the option to take the Mithril Heroes path comes after you fight Lord Gaga and a mind-controlled Tammy, beating Gaga without beating Tammy. You'll have the choice of recruiting Tammy or going with Cerebro's plan, which is to call for help from the Mithril Heroes.

Selecting Cerebro's plan will unlock the achievement With All My Heart, and beating the game on it will give you the achievement A Hero from Outer Space.
The Mithril Heroes
Each sheriff comes with 10% critical chance, 30% counter chance, and 1% dodge chance. They also have three abilities, one of which is a Free action and one of which will give them a condition called Low Energy that reduces their Attack by 30% and their Movement by 1.

Attack: 180-220
Critical: 10%
Counter: 30%
Dodge: 1%

Damage Grid: At the start of your turn, adjacent enemies take X damage. Lasts for 3 turns. Free action. 6-turn cooldown.

Mithril Sword: Deal 150% damage to an adjacent target. 2-turn cooldown.

Laser Sword: Deal 300% damage to an adjacent target, counts as a Finishing Move. Get Low Energy for 3 turns. 4-turn cooldown.
Garivan: defense specialist

Gaider: support specialist

Health: 720

Dodge: 1%

Healing Grid: At the start of your turn, heal adjacent allies for 20% of their health. Free action. 6-turn cooldown.

Laser Pistol: Deal 80% damage to target up to 5 tiles away. 3-turn cooldown.

Healing Beam: Heals target up to 4 tiles away for 50% of its health. Get Low Energy for 2 turns. 3-turn cooldown.

For some reason Shavan is bugged, the game doesn't count his finishing move as one so you can't complete the finish move misions with him.

Quick note: Shavan is completely useless on higher difficulty levels. Picked him since my team already had three guys good at keeping everyone alive and one guy good at not dying so I didn't feel more defense is needed. The problem is, he's got a health pool about half the size of any given ranger with endgame equipment and thus is focused first by minions and rarely survives the first turn. And if he does, the damage output isn't that great either, I expected a combat specialist to be a complete glass cannon but frankly my Scout and Lead easily outdamage him (and they also provide lots of utility) and Assault outright makes him look silly. The only thing good about him is Damage Grid, and the reason for that is it's bugged and lasts indefinitely, even if he falls. Or maybe specifically WHEN he falls (and then later gets revived), because that's what happens every time.

This is if you follow Cerebro's advice after fighting Gaga and Tammy. I'll add a section explaining this.

Which path is this?

Yeah, I observed that as well, but since I had picked Garivan I only had him for one fight and so couldn't exactly experiment with it. Right now the guide just says what the tooltips say (which is why Shavan's damage AoE just says "X damage").

I just want to note especially for Shavan, that using his Laser Sword will NOT fufill the requirements for Director's Instructions as of the time of this posts. :steamfacepalm:
