Multiplayer bugs, fixes and tips.

Unfortunately bugs will haunt your experience on multiplayer eventually. So this is a compiled list of things that worked for my session. When it happens, because it will happen, you will be prepared.

Specific bug troubleshooting
  1. Player X Desync (this happens a lot)

There's green sphere on the bottom right of your user interface in-game. It notifies you everything is fine, sometimes it goes black (that's fine too). But when it goes red, it notifies the host that a player has desynchronized. The solution is to continue playing, it may get better for that player and it can go back to green without host intervention.

The worst case scenario is the host or that player crashes. Which doesn't take as much time for you/them to load in, compared to the time it takes for everyone to load in the lobby to synchronize for that one player everytime it goes red.

  2. Unable to resume a save in multiplayer, follow these steps:

The host (and maybe the other players too) need to do this:

    1. Under Steam library, find Endless Legend

    2. Right click, go to properties

    3. Click the "BETAS" tab

    4. Under "Select which beta you would like to opt into:"

    5. Select "32-bit - 32-bit content for 64-bit users"

    6. It should automatically update with a ~12MB patch

    7. Click the "LOCAL FILES" tab

    8. "Verify integrity of game cache"

    9. Everytime you load a save to host, relaunch the game, or bug reoccurs.

  3. Error message pop-up everytime someone enters text in the in-game chat

I.e., white-named "#NullRevert#" is typing in chat instead of a player name.

If this happens, and you're "#NullRevert#" try quitting the game fully, then rejoin.

  4. All other non-host related bugs, follow these steps:

    Looks like the above screenshot.

    1. Did it crash for you out of the session? Go to Step 2, otherwise Step 3.

    2. Try closing the game fully, relaunch, then rejoin the session.

    3. Click continue, hope it's fine, and resume your turn.
General tips and facts
  1. In-game chat is toggled by pressing Enter

You can Private Message people too. It's by the end-turn button, little radial squares for each player, click one and you can send other people messages for that secret alliance.

  2. The AI takes over when you leave

  3. Every turn is auto-saved

  4. If the host disconnects or crashes. There's always a most recent backup save.

  5. Games are mid-match & hot-seat join capable

I.e., join a game in progress without needing to go back to the lobby. Even if you didn't start the game in the lobby, you can join and claim an AI-controlled faction after the current turn is over.

  6. Latency might not matter but anti-viruses might

[Anecdotal Evidence] I had a player with 2000ms of ping play with us for several hours, his ping did get better but it never forced a crash. However a player we had from denmark with 130ms who is afraid of turning off his anti-virus got disconnected several dozens of times during a two hour play session.

  7. The loading screen for multiplayer is slow, and very rarely frozen.

Have patience when it's loading. Even if a player is marked as "disconnected" others can still load in and that player can rejoin the session as his own faction.
Multiplayer etiquette for hosts and players
  1. Do turn on your turn & battle timer as host

Always have it on, incase the turn cycle freezes (happens like endless space), atleast you can tell visually by glancing at the bottom right corner.

  2. Do consider automating combat

If you have a good percentage of victory, say 65%. To save everyone else some time, pick a stance and let the RNGsus play it out for you, instantly.

  3. Don't full-screen alt tab (Use window mode for your multitasking)

If a player alt-tabs and haven't resumed the game window for too long it disconnects them from the session. (Doesn't seem to affect the host the same, to my experience)
