Cheeky what?
So just in case anyone's unclear about what the hell this guide is for, it's just a little quick one to explain some mechanics and sneaky tricks that some people might have missed out on or otherwise not noticed.

It'll be of more use to new players for the most part, but if I find anything else interesting I'll whack it on here just in case. :3 I might add a section for unlocking Zombie Information below, but I still haven't unlocked it all yet so bear with me. ; ;
General Adventuring Tips
  • Most important tip? Hit the M button for the map, and mouse over the central point of the zone. It'll tell you every single quest that can be fulfilled in that area and makes it super easy to tell if you're missing anything in that area.
  • Don't bother accepting quests that involve killing normal enemies. Instead, try sticking to accepting rescue and hunting quests to kill bosses/renegades, as you can find roughly where the NPC is with the map for a fee. (Note: All quests can be completed without even accepting them, so don't worry about a full quest log!)
  • The literal best way to level up by far, is to take whatever quests you have for your first zone and them immediately rush in and kill EVERYTHING. Why? Because the chances are very high that you'll bump into 1-2 clans in that first area, and by killing all the bosses you'll have a big bunch of complete quests ready to hand in on the Relationships screen. This works especially well on small worlds with multiple clans. Just wipe out each map in succession and rake in all that exp!
  • Always keep the two highest level healing potions, keys and ice bombs on you at all times. Ice bombs can put out rogue fires and potentially save a house at home, and health potions can be used to heal yourself, allies, neutral forces and even cure zombieism!
  • There is an experience bonus for fully exploring any map or dungeon floor. It isn't huge, but it's something. :3 Keep in mind that you won't get it for towns though.
  • Additional to the above, there is also an experience bonus for wiping out every monster in an area before they can respawn, but even with Very Slow pacing unless you really haul ass you probably aren't going to ever see it and it's essentially only useful for bragging rights.
  • Talking about respawns, if a monster dies to someone else it'll stay dead for about seven and a half minutes. If you kill it, it won't come back for ten minutes. (ALLEGEDLY anyway. In practice, monsters respawn way faster because each monster kill seems to lower timers or something, it's a bit weirdly complicated)
  • Got french kissed by a zombie and feeling poorly? Same level health potions and zombie resistance potions have high cure chances so long as your level isn't too above them. Alternately, any healing magic or taking fire/acid damage have extremely low chances to cure you also.
  • Taking your NPC clan buddies can be useful for both giving them a litle more experience so they'll survive town issues at home, and for giving you a bit of breathing room/extra damage while you adventure. The same goes for other clan adventure buddies.
  • If you ever find a wild vendor in a map, make sure to kill all the monsters in the area while selling all the junk items to them as it's very tough to make gold otherwise. Most vendors have barely a couple silvers, but you can find the odd one with nearly a gold piece early game! \o/
  • On top of the above, because vendors are rare now, don't bother picking up any greys or worthless items except for the very start of the game. Just go for green or higher.
  • Make sure you check none of your clan members can use those rare items when you're at the crafting station by pressing SPACE on each item in succession. If no-one wants it feel free to scrap it for materials.
Clan Specific Tips
  • Wihle auto-equipping your clan members with the armoury feature is nowhere near optimal, their equipment will need updating so often that it isn't worth your time custom equipping them all until the endgame.
  • In relation to the above, if you have a specific buddy you like adventuring with, by all means equip that sucker with all the top-grade stuff you can find and can't use. :3
  • Sometimes, you'll start a map and someone will be kidnapped and the quest will be pretty far away. It feels like you need to rush but generally they can hold out a pretty long while on their own so unless they're your best NPC, consider it a low priority.
  • All clan members gain full experience from you handing in Quests, and that'll be the bulk of their levelling up. You can take some with you adventuring, but it will cut the exp you gain keep that in mind.
  • Other Clans are extremely easy to gain friendship with when you first meet them, thanks to the bulk of their initial quests being "Kill boss in location near clan". Just keep clearing out maps and when you meet clans you'll always be at high friendship by handing them in. :3
  • As an extra tactic, if a quest isn't worth much exp then consider holding onto handing it in for if you need to bump your friendship up for a better chance at an alliance or whatnot.
  • Rumours and Sabotage just aren't worth it, never use them. They take a TON of money, and have a good failure rate even at the top tier of success.
  • If you've handed in a bunch of quests for a clan and upset their enemy, give them contact with another clan/s as a gift. It's almost always a guaranteed +10 minimum to friendship per clan, and will delay them declaring war on you for a good while.
  • Additional to the above tip, clan contact is also worth so much to clans that it basically guarantees you any one for one trade. (And means you'll usually pay out the nose if you want to buy contact from a clan)
  • Keep your friendship high with a clan and they'll usually offer you a pact for free after a while. There's no reason to say no to a "Non-Aggression Pact" unless you're on the warpath already.
  • For reference, I've found that clans will generally declare a war/raid if friendship levels drop down to about 30-35. Chaotic/Backstabby trait clains might do it as early as 40ish though so keep that in mind.
  • Stay the hell away from The Collectors. They're a bunch of cheating bastards who thanks to their clan trait, ALWAYS have supremely powerful gear and CAN randomly instantly kill you with certain setups. This is also true to a lesser degree for the Gold lot. Do not ♥♥♥♥ with the Collectors on hardcore runs.
  • When fighting clans, you will deal (and take I THINK?) 50% of your usual damage, so plan ahead for that and don't go thinking you can Leeroy into the thick of twenty of them alone just because you beat a Nemesis.
  • Finally, non-human clans are generally easy pickings and far weaker in every regard. If you have a choice, fight them and try to keep on the sweet side of the human ones. Remember that finishing off a clan gives you a LARGE chunk of food!
Dirty Tactics
  • Killing the enemy before they can even hit you works extremely well if you've got ranged damage. Just stack up armour/relics enchanted with Damage% or Spell Damage% and attack them from as far off-screen as possible. Provided they aren't capable of the same (It's very rare but be VERY careful of the random jackass Collector or Renegade who has similiar gear and power) you'll kill basically everything without taking a point of damage.
  • In addition to the above, the best tactic seems to be to take a cheap single target skill (Every tree has one.) and level that sucker up like mad. It's cheap in skill points and mana, and with all that bonus % damage you'll be rinsing through things. Alternately, take a short cooldown AoE for clearing dungeons faster.
  • Another clan at friendship 60+ with you? Take them on an adventure in the trade menu to get access to a sole ally who will almost always be much stronger than your clan members. Fighting with them gives you and their clan XP (They CAN level up their clan this way!) and free relation points which will offset the natural degradation. It will also affect enemy/ally relations. :3
  • Powerful clan nearby that you want to soften up before declaring hostilities? Lead a boss monster or two from a nearby zone into their town and watch the fireworks. (Make sure you attack it once or twice and finish it when it's low!) When it dies, you'll get relation with them for helping out as well as the experience and items.
  • Defending is much easier than attacking. Raids by you or the enemy clans are limited to groups of six at a time, so it's better to wait for them to raid you if possible/wait for an ally to raid them and then kick their teeth in with your numbers.
  • Speaking of raids, if someone raids your clan and you really can't afford to deal with that right now, just raid them back. It seems to cancel their raid out and they'll stay at home waiting to defend an attack that won't even come. >:3
  • If you don't need the experience urgently, try to not complete any quests for the clan you want to fight later that involve curses, town attacks or hunger. (This includes completing the objective but not hitting the complete button.) That stuff starts adding up after a while, and anyone except the broken Collectors clan will be whittled down.
  • For other clan town attacks, as long as you're on the map and did some kind of damage to one of the enemies for each town attack, you'll be creditted with completing the quest even if they do all the rest of the work. Free damage to them and free exp/items for you! \o/
  • If you REALLY want to mess up a human clan, try leading a zombie boss to their town. Infection will at best cause infighting and at worst kill them. There's a very high chance of them coming back as another zombie boss or a ghost, and it can set off a chain reaction.
  • Need a little relationship boost to make sure someone doesn't declare war on you? Chuck a healing potion on their members/guards. It'll give a few points of essentially free relationship depending on the potion's power to their level.
  • Lure fire elementals/fire throwers and see if you can set fire to their town "accidentally". Alternately, when fighting in the area just spam explosive fire attacks. Having no home removes a source of NPC happiness gain and could lead to infighting eventually.
  • Finally, if all else fails, just trade clan contact to everyone so they all know about each other and let them do all the work for you! Jump in to raid and steal the glory when there's only a couple members left and snag all that free food and loot! >:D

Love the game, wish it was a bit more popular.

I still have a twitch clip somewhere of me being instagibbed by a 400% max health strike from some boss early into a Din's Curse run. I love that Soldak but man his games don't play fair.

There's probably some better builds out there that I don't know about, I had more success putting skill points into the basic skill of mage classes and tended to die all the time as melee types. Well... moreso.

I played this game quite a lot at my friend's,and i edited the game, but that takes away the challenges.Actually,i'm curious how the developer intended the game played,i even asked him about it on the forum, and he gave a general"take things slowly" answer,to which i replied by flooding him by all the unfair RNG bullshit that game has/can have. And he too suggested moding the game xD.I even edited the game so ALL npc-s had therapist skill, but that wasn't too much fun that was.

So,now i'm looking for some tips/deeper understanding how and what to do,until then i'll try to improve and experiment with builds.

Ooooh. In that case I recommend the SUPER ILLEGAL practicing of editting the game files. xD

Honestly I'd forgotten how overwhelming it is to a new player. All I can really suggest is customising the world settings and stuff to your liking and to be a little easier on you. Always have it on very slow pace so you don't get rinsed by a dozen quests at once spawning nastier quests, make sure you pick a world difficulty below your level, and prepare to die a lot. :x

Straightforward? I have no idea how one supposed to play this game. What should be the focus of the game ? Farming quest for adventure win?.Focusing on decent clan mates first. Also, what kind of character are we supposed to make early game.

The RNG can hit so hard, when one of your first quest is to kill a lvl 10 boss, after starting a new character, and the said boss attacks your clan almost immediately, and with a few 100% stat bonuses REKS everything in its path :P ....

I could use some EARLY tips. Also,i besides playing multiple maps trying to find perfect clan memebers,i have no idea how to hande stress/insanity/happiness/negatiive traitss problems with in the clan.

As for combat, i can build good enough characters, but getting to a point where i have about 6-9 people who make everything more fun/easier is really a long shot.

Well if it still even works. This guide's old as dirt. xD

Considering how straightforward the game is, there's quite a few ways to use filthy tactics to get an edge on the other clans. Considering how OP Collector's clan always was, I appreciate this.

I mean the greatest tip is "Nose around the game files and edit it so stuff stops instantkilling me" but you didn't hear it from me. ;3

Very interesting guide! As an experienced player in Depths of Peril coming to Zombasite, I noticed most of these tips, but I did find some new, interesting tricks that I'll try. Thank you!

It's pretty quick and dirty but it's something I guess.
