How to speedrun Heavy Bullets
By Thomas o Kawaiiness
I got the speedrun achievement, here's some tips on how to do it yourself.

The basics
If you have any tips for speedrunning this game, leave them in the comments and I might add them.

First, finish this game a few times. I would recommend having at least $20,000 in your bank. This isn't too hard, once you know how to finish this game and the trick to beating the final boss, it's kind of a cake walk. Just beat the game a few times, get the $5,000 reward banked, and repeat.

Second, be prepared to die a few times, or walk away from coins or bullets.

Third, I hope you have some decent aim. Though I missed many MANY times and I was still able to finish this.
The meat
Rush through, hammer the fire button at any enemy you come across, and hammer right click to reload a bunch.

Ignore the vending machines until you find a bank, but don't hunt too hard for a bank, just keep looking for the next door, hit it, run through, and spray the nearest enemies you can find.

Find a bank, withdraw $2,000 immediately, and then go to the bank's shop and purchase full discount, and then purchase full life insurance. Buy a will if you want, but drop it as soon as you get the next best item, such as a potion.

If you see a vending machine on your path now, stop by it quick and see what's on sale. Buy about 30 bullets at the first ammo vendor you can find. Buy every max life up you can see. Buy every upgrade, such as carry+, bullet magnet, coin magnet. Get a backpack as soon as you can.

Remember your goal is just to make it to the exit as fast as you can, but also keep in mind that the exit hatch will not open if there are enemies nearby, so make sure the room right before the exit hatch is cleared of all enemies before you bother trying to exit.

Phlamingo in the comments reminded me that you can open doors from a distance by shooting their control panels. With some aim (or just spamming at the control panel) this can save you a nice second or two, especially if you have upgrades to your bullet magnet skill.

Load up on potions or silver life. Remember, red potions stack up to x 3 without a carry+ upgrade, and with the carry+ upgrades you can carry at least 5 red potions. Gold potions let you carry only 1 without the carry+ upgrade, and after maxing carry+ you can carry 3 gold potions. This is highly recommended. Consider buying silver life as well and carry those on you, I believe you can carry about 3 at first, and 7 with full carry+. I would recommend silver life and red potions for the first several levels, and during the last few red potions and gold potions.

Remember if those spikey guys hit you, you will drop all your items. Don't let them do this, try to play them carefully. If you feel like you're wasting too much time getting their vulnerable backsides open, just throw a grenade at them. You can shoot the grenade to detonate it early.

After that, keep rushing through and kill enemies and reload constantly in a frantic state. Just kill enemies, and try to pick up bullets, but don't bother vacuuming up coins. You shouldn't need coins from the ground when you can just withdraw money from the bank.

When you go into the pause menu, you can see how much time you have taken so far. It will also stop the timer so you can take a break if you need.

I skipped all keycard doors, but if you are fast enough and have a keycard already, they're just one tiny room and usually have good upgrades. Just speed in and speed out, it should only take a couple of seconds tops.

On the final boss, just stand in the doorway and snipe everything you can, all the enemies, bomb trees, and turrets if you can (if you can't take out a turret with one bullet, then ignore it for now). When you've shot everything you can see, mad dash for the 3 generators. I've written another guide for final boss strategies. HOWEVER Phlamingo in the comments also mentioned that Spiked Helmet is good for rushing through the final fight as any enemy that hits you takes damage.

At level 7 you want to be under 20 minutes, 16 is ideal and very possible with some skill and luck. At level 8 if you are under 21 minutes you should be able to make it.

The achievement will pop up after you clear the final credits and you see the "you win" screen that has your timer and the $5,000 reward.

I should update this guide since it's a bunch of years old and yeah the keycard rooms can be viable if you're fast, so let me go change that.

Started playing Heavy Bullets again after not having it installed for a while, and wanted to see if I could get the rest of the achievements I'm missing.
I will say, some of the tips in this guide are helpful but others not so much.
Withdrawing a large sum of money and buying max discount, a healthy amount of bullets, carry+ and gold potions was a good idea!. But if you have a keycard, it only takes a few seconds to check the keycard rooms. On my winning run on 11:21 time, two of the keycard rooms I opened contained health ups!

Those are pretty good ideas, I will add those real quick.

Beyond helpful, thank you so much.
A note, though: to quicken your pace, the doors can be opened by shooting the pads adjacent to the doors to open them when you approach them, saving increments of time, adding up over time.
Also, the Spiked Helmet will help *very* much during the last boss battle, because the item damages/kills any enemy that attacks you while it is equipped. That, parred with potions/silver lives and a steady hand, this achievement is a learning curve that is very satisfying to complete.
Thank you, again, Smug Laily :)
