True, but in real life a ship of the line would never get that close.

at close range, a ship of the line at close range would beat a modern cruiser in real life cause the cruisers are thin-skinned like Coke cans and cannonballs would pass right through the sides while the cruiser's cruise missiles could not possibly deploy, arm and home in on a ship at point-blank range. The deck gun on a cruiser is fairly good but would be radically out-gunned by an entire broadside of cannon.

Honestly, for me it's the inverse. I'm always rocking a Destroyer while the other civs are still wading around with Galleasses and Caravels.
