What you need to know

1. Decide what you want to trade.

For me, it was velvet merch, because it's one of the most expensive items in the game, so decision is up to you.
Recommended: Velvet

2. Decide from which city to which city you want to send a caravan.

If you want to trade like a real merchant, it's not only about stuff you want to sell. You also have to research how much item (which you want to sell) costs and then sell in the cities, where you want to send a caravan, for a higher price than you actually bought it for.

Recommended: (For velvet) Chernigov to Smolensk (In Chernigov velvet costs about 100 thalers and in Smolensk velvet can be sold for 1000 thalers and higher) Prices might be different in your gameplay.

Knowly issues with the achievement

Every player must have noticed (after you complete Trader Achievement) that the achievement doesn't track your progress. Some people say that it's broken but in reality it's broken only a bit. So let's be clear:

Achievement does work

Steam does track your progress of your trading with caravans in Great Trader Achievement

The only issue, which doesn't matter that much, is that Steam doesn't show your progress of this achievement, but it is tracking your progress.

Steps to get this Achievement (ONLY FOR PLAYERS THAT WANT ACHIEVEMENT QUICKLY)

1. Send a caravan (depends on your decision where)

2. Be the whole time with your caravan until you get enough close to the city (DO NOT LET THE CARAVAN ARRIVE TO THE CITY)

3. Save the game and then let your caravan finish their journey to the city

4. Leave game to the menu without saving the game

5. Then load your game and perform steps 3,4 WITHOUT SAVING until you get Great Trader Achievement!

Hello everyone!

ACHIEVEMENT IS OBTAINABLE!

Here is how I did it:

- Went around to each city and bought velvet until I had 20 stacks
- Then went to each major city (cities that you can send trade caravans to) and checked what a single stack of velvet could be sold for. I wrote them all down
- Koenigsberg was the best choice for me (velvet sold for 1096 thaler there)
- Then went to the city where selling velvet was cheapest (Sich in my case)
- Sold all 20 stacks to the market,
- Prepared a great caravan (20 stacks, 102 thaler per stack) to Koenigsberg.
- Sent the caravan and followed it until it was a few seconds away from arriving. I then saved the game and let the caravan arrive
- Caravan arrived and I made 23.560 thaler. I waited 3 seconds after it arrived for good measure
- That meant 43 caravans of that size in total to reach 1.000.000 thaler
- Quit to the main menu and loaded the save and let the caravan arrive again
- 43 times later and the achievement unlocked!

@Jon.Topps I got the achievement today and by using the method shown in this guide it only took me like ~5 minutes. The game is buggy as hell but this achievement isn't unobtainable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just a note for anyone that tries to do this now, the achievement itself is bugged, and will likely remain bugged, because the devs have moved on to MB2.
I took notes for every single transaction I made with caravans, compiling the totals, and I have done 1,032,000 in caravan trades since I started counting (so probably more like 1.3 mil, because I did a bunch before I started counting).
I have not received the achievement, so it's not just that it's not counting, it's that the achievement is no unobtainable. Maybe there was an update in-between the writing of this guide and now, but either way, it's a bugged achievement as of now, and is impossible to get.
I wasted sooooo many hours grinding this garbage... so salty right now...

it's not a cheat, and the achivement will not be locked if you use it.
