Preface
Oh my. This game has thoroughly impressed me with the puzzles and character depth. I only wish Prof. Layton games were on Steam, because wow - this was pretty high up on my list of quality mystery-puzzle games.

This guide was made with love, care and frustration. I would like to thank my family for helping me brainstorm the answers to several puzzles. I would also like to thank my calculator, thesaurus, and bottomless mug of coffee. I hope this guide displays the solutions in the clearest way possible. Please try to solve the puzzles before reading this guide! Don't be a pushover!
How to use this guide
  • I played as Dickens. I don't know if that affects the puzzle answers at all. Just FYI.

  • This guide offers screenshots only whenever necessary.
  • Some solutions are partially explained in a hint, and completely explained in spoilers. Hover your mouse over the blacked-out text to reveal the exact solution.
  • Any list I give assumes you read left to right, and top to bottom in-game.
Episode 1 - Little Riddle's Deadly Dilemma
1. The Blue Toad Agency
The answers are in the player select menu.
Vanderbosh, Dakota, Maple, Dickens

2. Dead Man's Diary
This is a classic mystery puzzle. Imagine holding the page up to a mirror. Try it on paper, actually. This won't completely illuminate the situation, but it'll give you a fresh perspective.
The page should read, "I met the doc and told him I was mad that I got the wrong pills."

Case Review 1
Green / Tea room / Mother / Inspector

3. Staring at Sails
Look at the base of each windmill blade.
The answer is C

4. The Doctor's Diagnosis
This is one of the easiest anagrams in the game. An anagram is an alternative use of the letters in a word or phrase, to create a different word or phrase with legitimate (often very different) meaning. For example, vole is an anagram of love.
Pay attention to the sentence structure, as some answers may appear to fit in several slots.
Worried patient / massive levels / sleep patterns / sticking plasters / dose of antibiotics / a dose of Senecal

5. Lost Luggage
Notice the weight indicator on each scale.
Choose the top-left suitcase

6. A Final Payment
Add the payments, then use the conversion factors provided.
3 pounds, 7 shillings, 5 pence

Case Review 2
Look into the matter / Clerk / Chemist misread the prescription / USA

7. A Room for the Night
Pay attention to the words indicating mathematical operations.
11 guests

8. The Pub's Pipe Problem
Trace the pipes using your finger.

9. A Shadowy Figure
"East" is with respect to the board...not the crook.
Route B

10. Finding Mrs. Whatshername
Can't think of anything to say here.

Case Review 3
Wife / Stream / Bragg / Cloak and Dagger

11. The Mayor's Last Day
Think of the difference in sound of the materials when you interact with them. Try this in real life if you are curious.
Carpeted stairs / light door / heavy door / stone stairs / no door / wooden stairs / heavy door

12. As the Doctor Ordered
The last clue involves a bit of a cultural gap. Think of a chemist as someone who works in a chemistry lab. You know, with all that big glassware?
Bottle B

Whodunnit?
The Miller
Episode 2 - The Mystery of Riddle Manor
1. Beneath the Sacks
This puzzle is another version of stacking cups that young children sometimes play with. If you don't have those around, take a small stack of coins, cans or food packages and replicate the puzzle.
To avoid making a big mess of screenshots, I will answer this in text. Let's call the largest sack 5, and the smallest sack 1. From left to right, the space on the ground where sacks can be placed is A, B, and C.
From the start, place 1 on B and 2 on C.
  • Place 1 on 2
  • Place 3 on B
  • Place 1 on 4
  • Place 2 on 3
  • Place 1 on 2
  • Place 4 on C
  • Place 1 on 4
  • Place 2 on 5
  • Place 1 on 2
  • Place 3 on 4
  • Place 1 on B
  • Place 2 on 3
  • Place 1 on 2
  • Move 5

2. The Manor's Maze
Try solving this starting with the start and finish blocks.

Case Review 1
Two / Snobbish / Take lady for a walk / None

3. The Morning Service
The "top" benches are "above" the red carpet.

4. Gardening with Moses
Pay attention to the overlap!

5. Duck and Colour
Focus on what ISN'T moving in the picture. This makes it easier to focus.
The light blue ducks are in short supply

Case Review 2
Goodman / Weeds / Photograph / Mundane

6. Time for Tea
Focus on the numbers and names you're given.
A: 4L milk / B: 5L tea / C: 2L coffee

7. Lost in the Post
Connecting the ropes will help you place the packages in the correct positions.

8. For Your Eyes Only
Classic word search. Try to work your way from the ends of each word to the middle.

9. Something to Bragg About
There is a red herring in the clue. Notice I said "red". *cough cough cough*
Cross out enough letters to reveal "The butcher found the items". Wow, that was really obvious, am I right? Not!

10. The Meat of the Matter
This puzzle only allows you to make combinations shown on the board.
You need 2x bundles with 1 steak, 1 hamburger; 1x bundle with 2 steak, 1 sausage; 1x bundle with merely a hamburger.

Case Review 3
FMFYEO / walking stick / 3 / Vicar

11. Mister Fluffykins
Use the process of elimination. Hint: Since no two "pink" bears sit next to each other, the bear has to be "blue".
Bear #6

12. To Bee or not to Bee?
If you're having trouble, think of where bees WON'T be - such as around the borders.

Whodunnit?
Moses
Episode 3 - The Mystery of the Concealing Flame
1. A Blazing Trail
Don't focus too much on the buckets, just do the math...First time I did this puzzle I went over by a few buckets in the math because I misinterpreted the question.
200

2. Introducing Watson
Work from the edges inward. Mind the puzzle sections with a middle-section of plate, as they can appear to fit in multiple places - at first - but don't actually work out.

Case Review 1
Statue / Police station / Chef / Archives

3. Sparkles and the Slippers
Narrow down the possibilities based on the information you're given.

4. A Novel Way to Arrange
There are two answers to this common riddle, but only one is possible here. The one I was initially thinking of was "alphabet".
Dictionary

5. Pearls of Wisdom
First, figure out the cost of the pearls that are already strung. Then, start with the highest price pearl and see how many of each pearl is needed to reach the assessed value of the necklace.
1x large white, 1x small blue, and 2x small white

6. One Colonel and his Ducks
Start by placing one duck in each row. Then rearrange them to fit the set of rules.

Case Review 2
Thrilled / Loose lips sink ships / Researching an old necklace / Mrs Bothersome

7. Seven Years Bad Luck

8. Order to Archive
Think of where the highest-value numbers will go first!
Top row: 2, 6, 7; middle row: 9, 5, 1; bottom row: 4, 3, 8

9. The Secret of Shortbread
Try "cutting'' the letters of the alphabet in half...Or maybe just the ones that resemble these cookie halves. This puzzle is fairly easy.
The shortbread should spell, "LOVERS" in caps.

10. Of Tables and Gentlemen
Watch out for the diagonals.

Case Review 3
Hat / 3 / Doctor & Librarian / Great grandparents

11. The Lady's Ancestors
Start tracing the path from the left, not the right.
Folder "D"

12. The Shortest Route
Hint: avoid the 5 and 10min routes.

Whodunnit?
The Librarian
Episode 4 - Death from Above
1. A Grave Concern
Mind the corners...

2. The Key to Salvation
Some of the patterns repeat differently than others.

Case Review 1
Hotel Manager / Son ran away / Margaret... / To pray

3. Ding Dong the Colonel's Dead
Test out combinations of even and odd numbers.
2 x 16 + 4 x 17

4. Another Fine Mess
Minimize bumping into crowds, especially those with a value of 2.
20 Seconds

5. Show me the Money
Even though you want the coins to swap sides, take turns advancing coins. Never have 2 of the same kind of coin in a row, or you'll need to reset.
If you start from the left, move one shilling to the right. Move a penny OVER a shilling, then move another penny to the left. Move a shilling to the right, over the penny. Move another shilling to the right. Move the last shilling to the right, then keep swapping coins - it's simple from now on, since you've freed up all the coins.

6. Prison Break
Repair the wall and the cable!

7. The Colonel's Research
There's several ways to approach this. Just make sure to move the yellow pieces outward, then inward. Otherwise, they will get stuck on the end with nothing to jump over.
Click on the solution below to enlarge it.

Case Review 2
Bert the Blag / Five past ten / Parts of a disguise / Town hall clerk

8. The Church Coffers
First, find the rate at which churchgoers give money.
Final answer = 60 pounds

9. A Real Buzz
Like the puzzle, "To Bee or not to Bee". Only...more complicated. Pay attention to the difference in rules.

10. Mrs. Gossip's Mixup
Try to think of a word or phrase for the items shown. A thesaurus helps. You can always guess.

11. A Medical Dressing
Don't forget to attach the nametags AND suits.
Left: Dr. Blue, green suit / Middle: Dr. Green, red suit / Dr. Red, blue suit

Case Review 3
Mrs. Wentworth / Sprained her wrist / On the freshwater cods / Charlie

12. The Dream Sequence
As with similar puzzles, try putting one of each character in each column or row. Alternatively, you could start by placing all the characters of a color on the board.

Whodunnit?
The Doctor
Episode 5 - The Riddles of the Past
1. A Stain on your Day
Start by calculating when the Vicar arrived.
Baker 7:19 / Chef 8:10 / Vicar 9:01

Case Review 1
By the time the last train leaves town / Cream / Postman / Large booking

2. Gardening without Moses
Place the "biggest" clouds over the highest water-needs.

3. Tangled Candle
Start with the tip of the candle wick, and work inward. The biggest catch of this puzzle is that not all pieces of string will ever connect. Some stop abruptly.

4. Chef Surprise
Another anagram puzzle. Fortunately, this one contains more vowels, so it's easy to distinguish between the items referenced.

5. A Postman's Ramblings
Replay the audio until you get it right.

6. Drinks with her Lady
Hint: the answer to this question is not as scientific as it may seem. Despite referring to volume, remember...this is a 2D question ;)
250 mL

7. Dirty Evidence
This is much like the safe-cracking puzzle in Ep. 4. Just figure out a good place to start, and the rest is easy. Click on the solution below to enlarge the picture.

Case Review 2
Winston / Sausage rolls / Antique shop owner, the Doctor, and one is missing / They are the key to the key

8. Breaking and Entering
You might want to recite the lines to remind yourself how many syllables are in each.
And the trum-pets sound un-til Judge-ment Day

9. Fickle Flower Frolics
Double-check which vases you place on each shelf to count the flower and note the colors.

10. The Colonel's Conundrum
The village green

11. A Monumental Moment
Block out the sides with the most Xs

Case Review 3
Legs / On that macabre call / 6 / Because he likes it too much

12. Crypt-ic
Just like the puzzle at the Antique Shop.

Whodunnit?
The Vicar
Episode 6 - Flight of the Felonious Fugitive
1. A Crack of Light
Keep in mind the top of the shadow begins at the bottom of the wall. However, the bottom of the shadow shows the top of the wall.

2. No Easy Access
When one gear turns itself clockwise, it turns a single, neighboring gear counterclockwise.
Gear set 3 of 3.

Case Review 1
Dehydration / Moses / Imagination / Hidden doors, long trek, thwarting crime

3. Blockade
Despite being able to position units at all red dots - and have leftovers - you need to literally cover the entire roads with the range of all units.

4. Foot Notes
Focus on 1 "siren color" and 1 color of footprint as the light sweeps across the rug.
35 footprints

Case Review 2
Officers and volunteers / Doctor returning / Manor and Doctor's house / coal

5. Paper Trail
Man(or) / Cry(pt) / Arch(ives) / (T)Rain(station)

6. The Bitter End
As with similar puzzles, I cannot stree enough that you should start with the "in" and "out" parts of the maze.

7. Book of Revelations
Don't forget to allow space between words. In word puzzles, it's common to find words like, "the", "and", etc.

8. Communication Breakdown
Fortunately, this message reveals old news. Pay attention to the dialogue in the scene leading up to this puzzle.
The Doctor is a fraud

Case Review 3
Disorderly conduct / Car / Heathcliff / Train station

9. Moment on the Lips
Notice the cupcake decorations. What color are they? Are they positioned facing inward or outward?
The bottom-left cupcake design

10. See how they Run
The clues for this were very confusing to me, so I'll just show the end result. Make sure to repeat the audio until you understand what's going on.

11. Time for Tables
Beware the red herrings in this question. For starters, Little Riddle may be the 5th row down on the board, but it's not where the train is stuck. You can cross off the stops that you are told aren't the 5th stop.
Hill Valley

12. A Leaker's Lament
Use scratch paper for this one. The important part of this calculation is that you need the same amount to come out of the upper pipes as the lower ones. Imagine working backwards from 300L to 500L!
Upper left: downwardly-curved pipe and stopper / Upper right: pipe splitter / Lower left: pipe splitter / Lower right: upwardly-curved pipe

Whodunnit?
The Baker

Great guide so far. However, in episode 3, the soultion for puzzle "Order to Archive" is wrong. The numbers for the top row should be reversed.
