0. Introduction
(Click HERE for the German version of this guide.)

Since Wizards of The Coast decided to update Magic Duels every time a new set in paper Magic comes out, a lot of new players have joined this game. Unfortunately, the game is not very friendly to new players, especially the matchmaking system which does not care about how many cards you have unlocked when searching for your opponent. And if you are a new player, you currently have to earn somewhere around 67,200 coins to buy all the cards in the game (from Origins up to Kaladesh).

So I'm here with some decks and tips which aim to help you farm as much gold as possible. Here we go!
1. Deck
This is obviously the first thing that you’ll need. Since we want to earn gold as quickly as possible, I suggest that you use a fast aggro deck. Here are two examples:

RW Enchantment/Aggro

Creatures (24):
3x Expedition Envoy[gatherer.wizards.com] (W)
4x Suntail Hawk[gatherer.wizards.com] (W)
4xGoblin Arsonist[gatherer.wizards.com] (R)
4x Kinsbaile Skirmisher[gatherer.wizards.com] (1W)
3x Ember Hauler[gatherer.wizards.com] (RR)
3x Skyhunter Skirmisher[gatherer.wizards.com] (1WW)
3x Flaring Flame-Kin[gatherer.wizards.com] (2R)

Other spells (14):
4x Nimbus Wings[gatherer.wizards.com] (1W)
4x Inferno Fist[gatherer.wizards.com] (1R)
4x Twin Bolt[gatherer.wizards.com] (1R)
1x Reprisal [gatherer.wizards.com](1W)
1x Boulder Salvo[gatherer.wizards.com] (4R, playable for 1R)

Lands (22) :
12x Plains[gatherer.wizards.com]
8x Mountain[gatherer.wizards.com]
2x Clifftop Retreat[gatherer.wizards.com]

This deck is about pumping your Flaring Flame-Kins[gatherer.wizards.com] and Skyhunter Skirmishers[gatherer.wizards.com] to deal the opponent lethal damage before he can play some big creatures.

RG Energy/Aggro

Creatures (24):
3x Goblin Arsonist[gatherer.wizards.com] (R)
3x Ember Hauler[gatherer.wizards.com] (RR)
2x Stalking Drone[gatherer.wizards.com] (1G)
4x Sage of Shaila's Claim[gatherer.wizards.com] (1G)
1x Ember Beast[gatherer.wizards.com] (2R)
3x Reclamation Sage[gatherer.wizards.com] (2G)
4x Thriving Rhino[gatherer.wizards.com] (2G)
3xKird Chieftain[gatherer.wizards.com] (3R)
2x Riparian Tiger[gatherer.wizards.com] (3GG)

Other spells (13):
2x Primal Bellow[gatherer.wizards.com] (G)
4x Twin Bolt[gatherer.wizards.com] (1R)
3x Wildsize[gatherer.wizards.com] (2G)
2x Traitorous Instinct[gatherer.wizards.com] (3R)
2x Boulder Salvo[gatherer.wizards.com] (4R/1R)

Lands (22):
9x Forest[gatherer.wizards.com]
7x Mountain[gatherer.wizards.com]
4x Wastes[gatherer.wizards.com]
2x Rootbound Crag[gatherer.wizards.com]

This deck is meant to overwhelm your opponents with your creatures and using combat tricks such as Wildsize[gatherer.wizards.com] and Primal Bellow[gatherer.wizards.com] to punch through blockers.

These are decks which you can construct with only the starter decks/cards that you get after completing all campaigns. They are quite useless in matchmaking but can nevertheless compete with the AI on Hard Difficulty. And as you earn more and more gold you will also be able to upgrade and streamline these decks more and more with new cards.
2. Farming
Before playing, go to the Main Menu → Help & Options → Settings → Gameplay and turn off the following:
• Zoom played cards
• Combat Animation
• Display Hints
• Display Tips

Other ones are optional but personally I recommend turning off all other ones (again, to save time).

Remember, we wanna farm gold QUICKLY so doing all this will save us approximately one minute per match.

Now, choose “Hard AI” and let's go!
3. Extra Tips
Play the tutorials! Make sure you completed all campaigns and Skill Quests. Just go to Help & Options → Help and check them out. I've got about 150 gold for completing all remaining quests in a mere 10 minutes.
Turn on your favorite music (or radio station/audiobook/whatever). This process is about to get boring.
Refresh your daily quests once per day. Make use of that when you get puny 60 gold quests or quests that you are unable/unwilling to complete.
Write down or remember the amount of gold that you earn in duels (vs. the AI or other players since money from quests/campaigns does not count) to earn the absolute MAXIMUM amount of coins per day. Earn 395 gold this way (26 Hard AI Wins and 1 Easy AI win or any other way) and then win one PvP duel so you earn 425 gold instead of 400 plus daily quest income.
Take part in a weekly quest to get 60-100 gold at Wednesday.
Play 2HG! If you have a friend, take him and play Two-Headed Giant against the AI. It will give you 30 gold per won game.
If you are about to die, do not play it out. One of you should leave the game so that there is a chance that the game will be counted as a victory for the other guy (does not always work). If you have no friends who play Magic Duels you can use a gamepad instead to control both players (local multiplayer).
Don’t waste your money! Do not buy stuff like card sleeves, full-art lands or foil cards. These are merely cosmetic upgrades that serve no gameplay purpose. Focus on getting all (or at least most) cards first. Not only is this your ultimate goal anyway, it also helps refine your decks, resulting in faster and more consistent wins and thus more gold. Once you got all cards, THEN you can think about getting all the fancy things :)
4. Summary
This method allows you to win a battle within 1.5 to 3 minutes with a high probability of being victorious. That way you can earn up to 300 gold per hour, depending on your luck and the speed of your actions.

If you want to add something, feel free to leave feedback in the comments. Happy farming!
Which boosters should I buy? [in progress]
Well, this is quite a difficult question. It depends primarily on the deck(s) you want to play:

Origins: Elves, Thopters, Mill
Battle For Zendikar/Oath of the Gatewatch: Allies, Eldrazi, Esper Control, all kinds of ramp, Burn/Prowess
Shadows over Innistrad/Eldritch Moon: Humans, Vampires, Zombies, Madness, Delirium
Kaladesh: Vehicles, Artifacts, Flicker

There are, of course, many more decks that you can make. These are just the most popular ones. Now let’s take a look at some cards in all the sets which can help you grind gold quickly.

Origins:
This set is enough to build a good Mono-Red Aggro deck.

Goblin Glory Chaser, Abbot of Keral Keep, Mage-Ring Bully and Subterranean Scout are your best friends. Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh would be a perfect team-lead of this crew, accompanied with Avaricious Dragon.
Fiery Impulse, Titan’s Strength, Call of The Full moon, Infectious Bloodlust will help you kill your opponents within the first 4-6 turns, earning you 15 gold in just 2-3 minutes.

Oath of the Gatewatch
Creature(18):
2x Umara Entangler (1U)
2x Abbot of Keral Keep (1R)
4x Mage-Ring Bully (1R)
3x Stormchaser Mage (UR)
1x Jace, Vryn's Prodigy (1U)
3x Jhessian Thief (2U)
1x Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh (1RR)
2x Jori En, Ruin Diver (1UR)

Other Spells(20):

4x Fiery Impulse (R)
3x Titan's Strength (R)
2x Expedite (R)
3x Twin Bolt (1R)
3x Grip of the Roil (1U)
3x Slip Through Space (U)
2x Exquisite Firecraft (1RR)

Lands(22):

8x Island
2x Wandering Fumarole
10x Mountain
2x Sulfur Falls

Cards from Origins can be easily replaced by other cards. You just attack with your creatures and play a lot of instant spells during your combat phase. Quite a fast deck.

Not really, no. Duels itself is no longer support and as such no new cards are added to the game anymore. What do you feel needs updating?

Is this guide still being updated?

Great guide for a beginner like me, thanks!

Just one thing, for the second deck (RG Energy / Aggro) there are 25 creatures, not 24 (no worries, but had them written down and I noticed this when I created the deck).

Hi Karmox, some of the cards found in the Story Mode are not available in the rest of the game. The one you mentioned is one of those. For a list of all the cards available outside of Story Mode go here: http://www.magicduelscardlist.com/

Which ones in particular don’t work and why? What cards or strategies is the AI using that foil our aggro plans?
