On non expert, the travelling will be much safer therefore making this strategy more valid, rest the fact that with unlucky rolls you might end up wasting a lot of time in this. Add to that, that on non-expert bosses are just easy as hell when you know what you're doing....
With no fishing items (besides the fishing power information one) & the items suggested in this guide, I barely reach 50 on the best times. (morning/raining/moon)
