CS:GO - Get out of LOW ELO
By Clztch
This is a list of essentials, that i used, to get my competitive edge of CS. They teach you things you need to know in order to climb in ranks. Let this guide act as a substitute for youtube videos or as a quick reference.

There will be important things I will add to this guide in the future, as I play and explore the game more and more.

Furthermore, matchmaking has become flawed over the years (hackers/"rank-balancing"). Once you feel confident in your CS ability, I recommend going to https://play.esea.net/ or https://www.faceit.com/ to play on better servers with more serious players!

Smoke / Molotov / Flash / Grenade
Smokes - These are very important to learn. Knowing smokes and flashes can help you push a site, and can help you in a life or death situation.

This website has most of the nades -> http://www.csgonades.com/

NOTE: You can find steam workshop maps with smokes. Some become outdated but there are more of them in the steam community. Here are some of the maps..

Shooting
Aim - This is the biggest assest you will need in CS along with reaction time, spray patterns, crosshair placement, and your crosshair itself.

Graphics Settings
These are the graphics setting you're gonna want to use when playing CS:GO, in order to obtain a graphical edge. If you're computer isn't the best, these are ideal settings to get the most fps (frames per second) possible. Also, if you have a decent computer, you can maintain fps > 200. CS:GO is the only game, in my opinion, where you can feel over 60+ fps. Although you may have a top of line PC, low graphics setting are important. Don't lose a 1v1 gunfight while getting frame drop.

If you'd like to monitor things like ping, fps, packet loss, etc put this command into your console(if this command doesnt work check the "game settings" part of this guide): net_graph 1
I use this command in order to decrease the size of the graph, because i keep it up at all times: net_graphproportionalfont 0

Game Settings
Now under you game setting there are a few important things that you should change.

The Console -

Enable Developer Console (~): Yes
This is your key to the game. You can do anything with this. If you hit the tilda key on your key board (~), a menu will pop up. In this menu you can enter commands to control different things in the game. One command thats helpful is "net_graph 1", which you can find more information about in the graphics settings section. With the console commands, you can also see how much damage you've done to all enemies, once you you've been killed. This can help give information to teammates during competitive games.

Hud Options -

Mini-Scoreboard Style: Just Show Player Count
This is very recommended for competitive. On the top it will show a number of how many teammates you have, that are alive, rather than counting how many steam pictures are on the top of your screen.

Item Options -

Switch Weapon on Pick Up: Yes
This is optional. But I use this so i can drop my weapon, to pick up another weapon. Instead of pressing "e" and looking at the weapon to pick it up.

Viewmodel Positon: Classic
This is preference but allows for less gun on the screen

Always Show Inventory: Yes
You always want to know what you have in your inventory at all times. That flashbang can win you the game!

Close Buy Menu After Purchase: No
Quicker grenade purchasing this way

Open Buy Menu With Use Key: Yes
Lets you press both 'e' and 'b' to open buy menu.

Radar Options -

Radar Hud Size: Anything greater than 1. You want to see most of the map but you don't want this so zoomed that it blocks your vision.

Radar Map Zoom: Around .4 or less. This will help you see more of the map and should prove more useful than Radar Hud Size

Keyboard & Mouse
Before you do anything, find your current mouse dpi.
Now the two dpi's you want are either 400 or 800.

Sensitivity -
Windows Mouse Sensitivity: Default
Windows Enhanced Pointer Precision: Off
Sensitivity for 400dpi: Anywhere around 2
Sensitivity for 800dpi: Anywhere around 1
Sensitivity for XXXdpi: Anywhere around X
Follow the dpi:sensitivity ratio above (only works with default Windows sensitivity). You want a really slow sensitivity at all times. This is important to make precise and controlled shots. In doing this, having a large mouse pad is recommended. The rule of thumb is that your character should look 180 degrees with a full swipe of across your mousepad (12x12").

Mouse Acceleration: OFF
Raw Input: ON
These are so important. With mouse acceleration off and raw input on, your mouse movement will be properly synced with your mouse motion.

My Recommended Keys -

Jump: MWHEELUP (many people prefer MWHEELDOWN, this helps with bhopping)
Use Mic: Z

Audio
Turn that ♥♥♥♥ up!

For your speaker configuration, i find "Headphones" to have the best quality in order to hear peoples foot steps.

Commands (~):
volume “0.2” // This setting is the general volume slider for all sound. You can adjust it up to “1” according to your own preference.

voice_enable “1” // This enables voicechat with other players. If you set it to “0” you disable the voice chat.

Commands that disable unnecessary music (I keep some of these like round start/end and mvp music):
snd_musicvolume “0”
snd_menumusic_volume “0”
snd_roundend_volume “0”
snd_roundstart_volume “0”
snd_deathcamera_volume “0”
snd_mapobjective_volume “0”
Skins
People get way to caught up in skins, instead of actually playing the game. Don't let this happen to you. Focus on your skill improving, not how pretty you'll look while sucking. Notice how here I had nice skins but no Global:
Attitude
Stay positive. If you get angry, just calm down. I myself can get very angry and when I get that way I play worse. Never lose hope in a game. The amount of comebacks made from 15-0 are way to high to lose your hopes in winning the game :)

Even though this guide is to help you rank up, you will lose some games. But in all games there is some learning takeaway. If someone kept making plays on the other team, you can go back and watch the game! You can always learn from your mistakes or another persons individual skill.
Warming Up
Types of Warm-ups:
- 1v1 servers
- Retake servers
- Workshop aim trainer maps
- Deathmatch FFA

This plays a huge factor in your consistency. You may have taken a couple of days off from CS. Play at least one warm up before you enter a competitive match. Its important to always be sharp when hopping on. You may not notice it but you will always aim better with some warm ups.
