Intro
Hi this is guide to Hallowed grove puzzle. The grove is found on the south eastern part of the Staglands.



I'll split this into three levels.
  • Level 1: Just enough hints to get you started.
  • Level 2: Enough hints to give you good direction.
  • Level 3: The full solution.

You have to read all of them for full info. (level 2 does not contain but relies on hints from level 1 etc)
Level 1
  • The symbols where there are lines inside square boxes represent numbers.
  • Symbols with strange shapes and animal shapes represent the doors they open.
  • Diagonal line through square represents 0 (Zero).
Level 2
  • There is a room inside larger cavern on the left side of the entrance. It has a mechanism with two number symbols and one shape symbol. You can use this to open doors inside this cavern.
  • The numbers on this mechanism are arranged in ascending sequence. (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9)
  • Moonlight spell can be cast on ground.
  • There are areas with different sort of mechanism for opening doors. Where you can light up the pillars with numbers on them. Keep in mind that first number on these pillars is always zero.
  • You should check all the bodies on the ground. In the whole grove.
Level 3
Ok if you read this you will forfeit all possible challenge from this puzzle.
You will have no satisfaction whatsoever for overcoming first more or less challenging mental puzzle in RPG genre in ages.

Ok take off the thinking hat and lets begin with this handy depiction of digits(number) with corresponding symbols.



Now to solve the puzzle with second mechanism. The one with the pillars that you can light up.
Near these pillars you will find one or two locked doors. On the wall near these doors there will be two number symbols.

First one will most likely be a symbol for digit: 1.
Second symbol will be different for each door.

These two symbols give you two digits and together they make up a number.
For example 1 and 3 gives you 13. (Thirteen)

If you look at the pillars, each one has same first symbol and It's the digit 0.
Second symbol is different for each pillar.

So basically you get number from 1 to 9 from each pillar. You must light up pillars so the sum of the numbers depicted on them corresponds to the number written besides the locked door.

For example if locked door has number 13, you could light up pillars with 5+4+3+1 = 13

Now for the doors inside huge cavern. First you must find the mechanism with 3 symbols and four winches. It can be found to the left of the cavern entrance.

First two symbols will be numbers, and third will be a weird shape.

When you explore the cavern, you will come across the locked doors and there will be one symbol next to each door.

Remember the weird shape in the 3 symbol mechanism? Well the third symbol corresponds with the door. So you should set it to the door you want to open.

Keep in mind that only one door can be open at a time. Also save often, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of crawlers hide in behind the locked doors.

Now to find out what numbers you need to type for each door, you need to explore other caverns and look at symbols written on the walls. I will not go into detail about this, I will just post solution pictures.

But there is one area with lot of symbols on the wall and three winches with circle shaped discs beneath them. You can cast fearful light near the discs to solve this puzzle.

Ok you can find the combinations to unlock the doors bellow. Don't forget to pull the fourth winch to the right to actually trigger opening of the door.

Hi. Thanks for this guide. How you figure the native's tongue for numbers is incredible. I tried without your guide by using the parchment found from the dead guy & failed miserably. Hopefully i will be able to finish this game.

To be honest I don't remember every detail but I didn't get it from the Handbook.
But it went something like this. There were plaques with rune sequence in several rooms and some of them were broken with symbols missing. You could figure out missing runes by the pattern of runes. If I remeber correctly you could guess their sequence. But I don't remember how.,

I suspect at some point this puzzle might have been programmed to be random. I will check all this when I replay the game once the expansion pack comes out and update the guide accordingly.

BTW handbook is a must have, It has lore stuff besides some hints. They should have at least warn people that steam buy does not come with it.

One more thing. Seems combination to rooms and base symbols has been changed in one of patches. In patch 15 they are different. Only one stays the same. Lucky the one I was looking for(suspected to be exlusive to Erlein’s handbook.pdf owners). :)

Door with symbol of ' man with hands up', those 5 and 2. They are the one I cant find on runic guides on walls. Rumors say code for this room is only in Erlein’s handbook which I dont have. How did you discover number for that room? I solved 4 rooms myself, only that one was mystery. Tried many numeric coherences till I gave up.
