Introduction
Each class has its own unique skill growth with a level cap of level 50. This guide is to help you plan out your party of four and who you should give each artifact to, given that the MP growth varies by a lot.

As you level with each class there is actually a small variance in the stats you get. Usually that's not enough to make a huge difference but it can be noticable if you get lucky or unlucky. This information was originally compiled by The Weak.

Note that, in addition to this, there are stat raising items and artifacts. The stats herein are natural growth only. So you can give a warrior a small amount of MP if you goofed and gave them an artifact, but don't expect them to become a mage.
Warrior

Lv. 50 Stats
HP
~1228-1237
MP
0
ATK
~59
DEF
~51
INT
~12-15
SPD
~30-37

He can equip the heaviest armor, swords and 2-handed axes, but has no MP growth. He makes the best tank, but should not be given any artifacts other than those which have no casting cost. The max speed seen above was the result of lucky stat gains.
Monk

Lv. 50 Stats
HP
~769-774
MP
0
ATK
~111
DEF
~50
INT
~14-16
SPD
~39-44

He can equip light armor and daggers, but he fights much better without a weapon. He has a chance to double hit when barefisted and increased crit chance. He has the highest potential damage in the game (6k+). Because he fights without weapons, it's a good idea to give him all the attack raising potions.
Hermit

Lv. 50 Stats
HP
~595-603
MP
~123-126
ATK
~46-48
DEF
~1
INT
~33-36
SPD
~61

He can equip some heavier armor, swords and bows. All single use healing items have extra healing when used by him, even Cleansing Tonics. You are probably better off using a sword early game given how expensive arrows are to a new party. Later on, you can just keep a sword around as a backup in case you run out of arrows. Due to his speed growth, it can be helpful to give him healing artifacts.
Explorer

Lv. 50 Stats
HP
~567-570
MP
~207-210
ATK
~28-33
DEF
~1
INT
~46-50
SPD
~33-34

He can equip light armor, light swords and guns. Note that bullets are very expensive early on, so it might be a while before you can afford to use them often.
Shaman

Lv. 50 Stats
HP
~414-417
MP
~342-345
ATK
~15-17
DEF
~1
INT
~69
SPD
~30-32

He can only equip cloth armor, but he can use the INT-boosting staves. As you might expect, he's the magical powerhouse you want to give most artifacts to.
Dreamer

Lv. 50 Stats
HP
~862-872
MP
~76
ATK
~28-32
DEF
~1
INT
~30-34
SPD
~31-35

He is a jack of all trades who can equip anything. If you want to do a solo character challenge, he's probably the best choice.
Class Comparison
For a quick look at what class excels at what stat, without equipment or elixirs and with average stat gains, consult the following tables:

HP
Warrior > Dreamer > Monk > Hermit > Explorer > Mage

MP
Mage > Explorer > Hermit > Dreamer > Warrior = Monk

ATK
Monk > Warrior > Hermit > Dreamer > Explorer > Mage

DEF
Warrior = Monk > Hermit = Explorer = Mage = Dreamer

INT
Mage > Explorer > Hermit > Dreamer > Monk > Warrior

SPD
Hermit > Monk > Explorer > Warrior = Dreamer > Mage

Note that there is special equipment that everyone can use regardless of class, such as the Shimmering Shield. There is also some equipment that is class specific.

I actually think I'd agree with you Endarire.

The Hermit has too little MP to be a main healer, and the Explorer doesn't have that much more speed than the Shaman to have an advantage there. What's left for the Explorer is Guns and HP. For HP you're trading 100 MP for 100 HP, I'd say the MP is more important. And as for guns you're trading inventory slots for ammo, and I'm not sure they're better than staves. I think it's a little close for the running but the Shaman likely wins.

For the DPS slot I think it comes down to Warrior and Monk. The Monk supposedly does the most damage and has a higher speed, but has half the HP. I think there are plenty of good weapons in the game, so if you want a bigger wall of meat a second warrior is a good choice. I think I personally prefer the monk though.

My favorite current party formation is Warrior (Tank)/Warrior (DPS)/Shaman (Offensive)/Shaman (Defensive). I can use all the relevant gear (elemental resistance, Healing Staff, Blizzard Staff) and my team has high HP (Warriors) and high MP (Shamen).

FWIW, Icefyre is not usable by all classes: Hermit and Monk can't wield it, for example. Warrior, Shaman, and Dreamer are confirmed able to use it, and I'm not sure about Explorer.

That's a good point. Added.

One other feature I found of the Dreamer. He can effectively solo the game. I don't think any other character is capable of that due to equipment limitations or lack of magic.
