Skyrim Survival Mod Guide
By BE4R
A few people have asked what mods I use and how I get over 600 mods to work at once. So here are my top picks for you survivors out there that would ilke to start down the path. Use these as your frame and build your harsh and scary world around them.

Basics
First off you need Nexus Mod Manager. Although clunky and slow, it is easily the best way to organize your mods.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/modmanager/?

Seconly you need a program called Wrye Bash. What this does is check to see if anything will immidiatly crash Skyrim when opening and check for conflicts with mods. It truly is the gods gift to modders for Skyrim.

Now I'm going to skip a few steps with framework because most of that is really easy to figure out and would take up space. So now we have the survival mods
Essential
My top pick is
Frostfall
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11163/?
"Frostfall uses a sophisticated system to track your location, weather, time of day, worn clothing, and more, to determine your current condition, in a seamless and immersive way. It also features a large variety of craftable camping equipment, including craftable torches".

Next is
Death Alternative
Which pretty much makes this all worth while.
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52976/?

"The bleedout health bar no longer matters. When your health reaches 0 you will fall on your knees if you have a follower. Whenever this happens you will receive a random disease unless resisted and the "Bleeding" debuff which stops all regeneration for 3 minutes. While on your knees all enemies will stop attacking you and focus on your follower (just like with protected followers). If your follower survives long enough you will be able to get back into the fight as usual. You can use the waiting functionality to stop your bleeding right away.
If you don't have a follower or he gets knocked out while you are on your knees you will black out and receive the "Critical Injury" debuff which lowers Health, Stamina and Magicka by 50 and lasts 1 hour. If you black out again with this injury you will die. The timer for this isn't affected by waiting or your timescale; due to technical reasons it won't visually tick down but keep displaying 1 hour (or later 15 mins). The only way to cure it quickly is by sleeping. An owned bed completely cures it while simply vacant beds change the effect to "Recovering" which lasts only 15 mins, reduces attributes only by 25 and allows for a chance to survive another black out. "Critical Injury" also naturally turns into "Recovering" after 45 minutes".

This one is what really brings it all together
Survival Mode

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26561/?#

"The Survival Mode mod endeavors to add an additional layer of realism to your adventures in Skyrim, by rendering your character susceptible to such conditions as dehydration, starvation, sleep deprivation, and addiction".

I have never heard of some of those survival mods like survival mode and death alternative but i use realistic needs and diseases for my hunger/thirst/inebriation/disease/sleep mod and i have never found one compatibility issue when running 100+ mods. It also has more support for other mod like drinking fountains in skyrim which allows you to fill up waterskins and drink from them while in towns. I also think you should add more mods like immersive creatures and armor.

Not so much actually. But it is an incredibly usefull tool for installing them. There are tons (literally dozens) of different places I download my mods from! and you can use NMM to install them by the plus sign on the pannel.

The nexus mod manager is the only way to get access to most skyrim mods, as the steam workshop is a bit limited.

I actually don't like that mod at all. It had a ton of conflicts with other mods! but thanks for hitting it up.
