Some things aren't spelled out for you in the game. This is the collection of information that I've learned from experience or from the forums. If you have a tip, let me know.

Weapons and Attacking
Power attacks
  • Click and hold on either main or off-hand weapon to charge up for a power attack. This is crucial in dealing with large and hoarding enemies. You can hold your charge and move at normal speed.
  • Different weapons do different power attacks. Try them on before you decide to go with one.

Dual wield
  • There is no main-hand and off-hand weapon. You can weild two bows or two swords. One is left click, the other is right click. This is helpful when you don't care for ranged and you weild two different weapons for their unique attack styles.

Weapon differences
  • Explore how weapons strike and do power attacks. If you're mele but a little squishy, the Lance might be good for you since the attack is very fast and the power attack sends you jousting through enemies and out of harm's way.

In the beginning, keep your distance and take it easy
  • The beginning is hard. You're getting used to the controls, mechanics and how your character behaves. Learn how each enemy strikes and use that to your advantage. They each have a cadence and you can take them on one by one without ever getting hit.
Upgrading and Sockets
Socketting
  • Each item can have up to 3 sockets.
  • Drag runes to and from sockets. Don't sell or combine your items while they have sockets filled!
  • If you are short of the 10 gems required to create a socket of your color, create a socket of another color then change the color to the one desired. It takes 10 gems to create a socket. It takes 5 gems to change the color.

Upgrading
  • Always combine, never sell. You only get 20-50g per items sold, so why not upgrade your current item for your hero.
  • Items can only be upgraded 10 levels. That's it.
  • After a sweet dungeon run, find your highest level item in a category and decide if it's better to upgrade your current item or switch to the new item.
It helps to keep a check on how many times you've upgraded your current item and realize that you may soon need to switch over to a new item because of the 10 level upgrade cap.
  • Use the trick outlined in socketing to ration your needed gems in creating sockets by using your unneeded gems to create the socket, then change the color.
  • You can upgrade items using gems of the same color as the items socket. This means that if you have a surplus of a type of gem, socket that item with that color and use the gems to upgrade to your heart's content.

Were locks removed from the game or something? Keys drop from enemies/crates, but I've never seem them get used, no doors appear to be locked...
