The files can be viewed, extracted, re-inserted by 7-zip with no errors. I tried with other archiving tools and they seemed to re-archive into a formula that crashed the game.

Open "Farsky.jar with 7-zip

The "res" folder contains textures in the "textures" folder as well as the "obj" folder

The textures are in "PNG" format and can be easily extracted, modified, and re-inserted.

The models are in "obj" format and done using "Blender". I have not changed any of the models yet but I did try a couple times. It is easy enough to copy and exchange one model for another model within the original game files but I had trouble changing the models with outside edited models.

I exported the plantPot model into Photoshop, changed the model height, and re-inserted back into the game without the game crashing but the model was invisible.

I imported a blender "obj" but it crashed the game.

This screenshot shows using the glass wall as plant pots with a custom texture.

Other thing I'm thinking about is to test that does the game accept any higher res textures etc. We would also need to fiddle with the FPS cap somehow and maybe even get the menu element scaling corrected, as it's very tiny on higher resolutions we have now compared to 2014 when this was launched.

I got so annoyed by the texture and the model of the submarine glass that I ventured into modifying those files. Like you said, the main farsky.jar is just a asset pack that can be extracted with 7zip. And it can be compiled back to by packing it up to .zip first and then renaming it to .jar.

What I did with the actual glass dome model of the sub was to just delete those annoying center frames from it in Blender and fiddle with the texture of it (swapped black and grey colours to the main blue one and reduced fill rate to 15%). Did same kind of texture fix for the base windows by reducing fill rate, as those have way too visible effect on them.

Next thing I'm gonna test is to remove the bloom from the game, there seems to be separate shader files for that, game might be fine if those are removed/renamed.

This appears to be interesting. also could lead to possible modding opportunities.
