Shotguns are close to medium ranged guns that are effective against small groups of enemies and armored enemies. Shotguns are mostly ineffective against aerial enemies due to their short range and low firing speed.

Abilities
Slug: (on shotguns) fires one big bullet instead of a spread of little ones.

Shred gives a chance to tear off scrap from the enemy everytime a shot hits.
Shred+ produces 1.6 scrap a second while hitting enemies.
NOTE: Razor of the Gods machine gun's Shred ability may be broken.

Cluster/Cluster+/Cluster++ all increase the number of cluster projectiles. The damage listed on a cluster weapon is the damage per cluster "shot". (E.G. a cluster spread of 4 deals 4x the damage listed provided all child projectiles hit the target).

MIRV (Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle) keeps firing until the mother projectile explodes, is lost or hits solid ground.

Burst fires multiple shots as a result of just one mouse click.

Ricochet the bullets bounce of surfaces (world/hard hull of Breakers) a few times.

Shock temporarily immobilizes the target, without doing any damage over time (DOT).

Charge Target (The effect of the Carpet bomber) does damage over time DOT on all targets that aren't the main target.

Flak does more damage to aerial units.

Pierce allows for 3 enemies to be hit with one shot.
Pierce+ allows for 5.

Damage Field (The effect of the Coil Mortar and Experimental Device) causes 10 damage per second for 10 seconds in an area around where the projectile lands.

Leapfrog involves 3 explosions in total, all on the same spot where your primary shot lands, over roughly a 3 second period.
History
29th of May: Guide published with the Machine Guns
30th of May: Shotguns done
31th of May: Added Sniper Cannons, Clip Size and made some fixes in Shotguns
1th of June: Fixed Shotguns again. ;_; And started Grenade Launchers. Also renamed the guide.
6th of June: Made a new section called Abilities. Finished Grenade Launcher. (I had to search for days to find a writing mistake...)

Lasers should be added, they have the range of a sniper but are also able to go right through enemies and terrain, and can be cheesed, but suffer in damage for balance

@Kathael: Not like pierce. The projectiles only bounce off hard surfaces like the world or the breaker enemy.

Great additions on the terminology/abilities section! Love the response! So ricochet is like pierce that bounces? No auto targeting, sad face. :(

I'd enjoy a section on the special properties tags some weapons have to answer questions that the game doesn't cover. Such as: does ricochet always boounce to a nearby enemy, or do you have to "bank" the shot like a pool ball? Do weapons marked "Flak" still deal as much damage to non-flying enemies? How does "Slug" differ from "Pierce"? Thanks for the guide!
