Backstab
Each attack has a "backstab damage multiplier" property that determines the multiplayer applied to the base damage when hitting the target from behind. For sharper weapons this multiplier is around 1.5 or greater. The dagger has the greatest backstab multiplier, 2.0, making its special attack deal 200 damage on the back of the target - scoring an instant kill (with the default hp setting).

Knockback
Knockback is an invaluable tool for winning. When your targets are standing next to an edge of a tile, there is never a more perfect time to use the knockback attacks to push them into lava. Many weapons have a specialized "knockback attack" that deals little damage but knocks the target further back than the weapons' other attacks.

These attacks are great for sending your friends into certain death, as the lava pool kills anyone instantly. Even better, when a player is under knockback effect (flying because of the knockback force) the character cannot be controlled. With well-timed strikes by suitable attacks, you can score multiple kills in a short period of time by just knocking your targets into lava.

Keep in mind that this works both ways. Your attacks might have self-knockback on them making you fly in a certain, usually opposite, direction than your target. Some weapons, like Hand Cannon, have huge amount of self-knocback in their attacks, causing you the move several tiles backwards just by performing an attack without even jumping. Always check your surroundings, especially your back.

Drop targets off platforms - or keep them from falling
The perfect way to score sneaky kills is to hit players through the platforms. Players that stand on platforms fall through them when taking damage, unless they get knocked upwards in the process. Some weapons, especially Shovel, have attacks that have downwards knockback that are especially suitable for "platform knocking". The knockback itself isn't required, but it usually helps.

In some cases it is beneficial not to drop your targets through the platforms. If there is safe ground below the platform your target is on, it is often better to use attack that knock the target somewhat upwards, keeping them at hit distance by not letting them fall through.

Destroy their path
The stages are destroyable, and destroying the tiles also collapses the attached platforms. Different weapons deal different amounts of damage towards tiles, hammer-like weapons and explosives being more suitable for destroying the stage. If you are carrying ranged weapons and your opponents are at the opposite side of the stage holding nothing but melee weapons, a great tactic is to destroy the middle tiles, trap them on the other side, and kill them from distance or collapse the floor under them. This is especially handy in game modes like Ninety Proof, where players have 90% damage resistance.

Go rogue with explosives
Explosives don't hurt the caster. This provides a great advantage when attacking a group of targets at melee range, since you can block the targets from escaping while taking no damage in the process. Keep in mind that you are still being affected by the explosion's knockback, potentially pushing you into lava.

Mind the range
There are weapons that don't hit targets that are standing next to you, but reach further away just fine. For example, Halberd has a special attack that reaches a couple of tiles away, but the blade swings over the targets standing right next to its wielder. If you manage to get next to someone swinging a weapon like that while having a Dagger or any other close-hitting weapon, you have practically already won.

Long cooldown vulnerability
Some powerful weapons like Hand Cannon have a long cooldown period after firing. If your target has just performed an attack with such weapon, that is the perfect time for you to attack, since the weapon cannot be swapped or another attack performed during the cooldown time .

Use the "travel attacks"
Some weapons have attacks that apply self-knockback that flings you several tiles away. These attacks help reaching places that cannot be otherwise reached and help you to cross gaps on the tilefloor. For example, Dorf Punch ("the machine fist") has a lower attack that slings you several tiles up and forward. It is great in game modes where surviving long is the key.

Last hits count - killing is rewarding
The last player to deal damage to another player dying by an enviromental damage source shortly after is registered as the killer. In other words: last player hits count. Lava streams, spikes, and lava pool can be used to score a kill when combined with a successful pre-blow.

Scoring a kill earns the killer more "frenzy", providing a small heal, attack speed boost, and a movement speed boost as rewards. The more you participate, the better you survive.
