• I recommend a large gaming mouse pad with very good surface glide properties (e.g. Aukey Gaming Mat XL)
  
• When starting the game for the first time, follow the mouse setup instructions
  
• Windows desktop resolution is a matter of taste (I personally have it set to 6200 DPI)
  
• Regarding Settings/Mouse: consider increasing the values for "Shooting" and “Rotation” (I use 70/55); if you have a high DPI mouse you may want to reduce "Rotate Slew" (the mouse settings are important and you should experiment with them until you find settings that suit you)

The standard settings are well-conceived and it’s basically not necessary to make any changes. However, there are many possibilities, including playing with a gamepad. Actually, it’s currently not officially supported (as of 05/2015), but it works using an external tool: VP4 gamepad
Still, I recommend just using a mouse and keyboard.

S – Shoot (hold down S and move the mouse back and forth)
E – English/spin (hold down E and move the mouse forwards/backwards/left/right)
X – (Momentary) overhead view
J – switch to jump cue (if available; press J again to switch back to your playing cue)
M – Cue ball in hand (Move mode) (hold down M and move the mouse forwards/backwards/left/right as required)
B – Adjust cue angle (hold down B and move the mouse back and forth)
CTRL P – Pushout (pressing CTRL P again passes the pushout to the opponent)
ALT – Display the mouse pointer in-game (pressing ALT again deactivates the mouse pointer)
. – Amplify (the striking force) (pressing “.” again returns it to normal force)

CTRL C – Call shot (call all non-obvious shots in games where this action is required)

Die standard Einstellungen sind sehr gut durchdacht und es ist in Grunde nicht nötig Anpassungen zu machen. Es ist aber viel möglich, auch das Spielen mit Gamepad. Zwar wird das noch nicht offiziell unterstützt (Stand 05/2015) aber es funktioniert mit einem externen Tool: VP4 gamepad
Ich empfehle jedoch Maus / Tastatur.

Using “Create Room” you can create your own training room.
If you’ve already gone through the basic settings then open your own training room and get to know the game.
VP4 offers various tables and billiards games in a number of different settings. Opinions differ on how a beginner should learn the game.
Should you, for example, jump right in with the 9-foot tournament table? Whether you wish to jump in the deep end is up to you. Larger tables require rather more precision, and this can lead to beginners sometimes mis-hitting balls or even missing them altogether. The smaller 7-foot table is more rather more forgiving and thus less frustrating for the beginner. It is ideal for players just starting out. I would recommend the Novice or Club setting for beginners on the 7-foot table.

Hast Du dich grob durch die Einstellungen geklickt dann öffne Deinen eigenen Trainingsraum und lerne das Spiel kennen.
In VP4 sind verschiedene Tisch / Billardvarianten in unterschiedlichen Locations möglich. Die Meinungen gehen auseinander womit ein Anfänger starten sollte.
Sollte man sofort mit dem 9 Fuss Turniertisch beginnen ? Es liegt an Dir ob Du sofort ins kalte Wasser willst. Großer Tisch bedeutet das viel Präzision verlangt wird und das dadurch ein Anfänger öfter die Bälle verschießt bzw. anfangs überhaupt nichts trifft. Der kleine 7 Fuss Tisch verzeiht schon eher kleine Ungenauigkeiten was natürlich weniger frustriert. Der kleine Tisch ist Ideal für Anfänger.

VP4 offers many different billiards games. A good option for beginners is 6-ball pool. In 6-ball the table is not crowded with balls and it’s easy to get an overview.

I recommend:
6-ball on the 7-foot table until it hurts :). In this way, you’ll get quicker results (runouts, safety successes, positional play, potting). Once you’ve mastered 6-ball on this table, change to the 9-footer and take on a new challenge.

VP4 bietet sehr viel Varianten. Eine gute Option für Anfänger ist 6 Ball Pool. Bei 6 Ball ist der Tisch nicht voller Bälle, es ist sehr übersichtlich.

Meine Empfehlung ist:
7 Fuss Tisch und 6 Ball spielen bis es weh tut ☺. Du wirst hierbei viel schneller Erfolge haben (Runouts, Safety success, Stellungen, Potten). Wenn Du diesen Tisch in Verbindung mit 6 Ball voll unter Kontrolle hast, dann wechsel zum 9 Fuss Tisch und stell Dich der nächsten Herausforderung.

During the game, think carefully about which balls you need to pot next and learn to impart English/spin to the cue ball right from the beginning (by using the "E" key). Make sure you learn the proper use of spin right from the start!
If you find yourself at a loss in a particular position, then play a safety instead of attempting a risky pot – this also trains your cue ball control!

Make the following staples of your game:

• Plan ahead while playing
  
• Potting
  
• Positional play
  
• Play the higher percentage shots, plus safeties/snookers when necessary
  
• Master English/spin
  
• However, I recommend not playing with sidespin when first starting out

Getting good at Virtual Pool requires TIME and PATIENCE.

Since the VP4 Online Update 4.4.7.6 (29.09.2015)[vponline.celeris.com] you have to re-orientate your cue tip after every shot (E). The cue tip will have a random position each time (shifted to the left or right). Before taking your shot, you need to bring your cue tip back to centre. Be sure to do this otherwise you may not make the pockets anymore.
You can see the extent of this randomly-generated imprecision by pressing the M-key repeatedly before taking the shot (only if you can still move the cue ball).

Während des Spielens genau schauen welche Bälle man als nächstes versenken muss und sofort von Anfang an lernen mit "E" dem Cueball Effet mitzugeben. Mach das und lerne das von Beginn an !
Wenn Du nicht mehr weiter weißt dann versuche nicht riskant zu potten sondern spiel auch mal einen safety shot, das schult die Ballkontrolle !
Bist Du mit dem Spiel, dem gameplay und mit der Steuerung gut vertraut, kann es passieren das Du Dich ein wenig gezwungen fühlst schneller zu spielen. Spiel nicht schneller sondern konzentriere Dich und werde präziser !

Seit dem VP4 Online Update 4.4.7.6 (29.09.2015)[vponline.celeris.com] muss man nach jedem Stoss seine Queuespitze neu ausrichten (E). Die Queuespitze hat jedes Mal eine andere zufällige Position (links versetzt oder rechts versetzt). Man muss den Queue vor dem Stoß in die mittlere Position bringen. Mach das unbedingt sonst triffst Du u.U. die Taschen nicht mehr.
Das Ausmaß dieser zufällig erzeugten Ungenauigkeit kannst Du Dir ansehen indem Du vor dem Anstoß (dann wenn Du noch die weiße bewegen kannst) wiederholt M drückst.
