Island Map: Teyland

Teyland is my attempt to create a good looking island map. It is completely handcrafted without the use of a heightmap. Nine of the 25 tiles are just water, but they serve to create some space between the islands so that the region doesn't look too square. I tried too give the other available tiles a strategic value and a unique appearance. The map is centered around one large island, with two medium sized islands nearby. There are also several little islands along the coast. The middle tile on the large island features a mountain, which provides a scenic view of all the surrounding lands. The islands and the coast are very hilly and have plenty of cliffs. There is a small part of mainland available, that holds a large bridge, an interesection and some farmland.

Infrastructure
There is one railway that circles around the mountain on the large island. There are two outside highway connections that merge on the small piece of mainland in the playing area. I tried to make ship routes available everywhere, though some locations aren't suited for ports. The bridge to the mainland is high enough to prevent any clipping by ships. It might proove a little difficult to find a good spot for an airport, but it shouldn't be impossible.

Water
There is a waterfall and a small mountainous lake on the large island that creates three seperate streams, two of which split and one passes through a little lake. Their current should be strong enough for you to place pumps without draining them, but I advice you to try to spread any pumps out a bit or use one of the two lakes.

Resources
There are large strips of ore around the mountains and oil can be found along the many plots of farmland. There are lots of forest and trees. The valley just next to the starting tile has a lot of fertile farmland.

The map is named after the old Dutch spelling of "the island": 't Eyland. Have fun!

Btw, i have NO problem with ship routes. I have a lot of ships but no stacking up as other people here. I have placed ports/cargo ports on different sides of the island.

Firstly: I LOVE your map. I love building cities without square districts (where there's only straight roads), so this map is perfect in my eyes for my style.
Although: I have a problem with the water drain pipes. There seems to be no perfect place to place these pipes, the dirty water always flows around the islands somehow. I've moved them around many times to different sides of the map, placing them downstream, upstream - any stream basicaly.
Is there a perfect spot on this map to place them??
Thank you

This is an amazing island map to work on. I love it! I've been working on a giant city on the island. I actually terraformed an island to put a large airport on in the end.

Thank you so much for creating this! I hope you like the city I built as well. Something though that occured is that one portion of a river dried up, but it isn't that big of a problem.

@fightbiscuit, Thanks for the feedback!

I agree that it's quite a challenge to build an airport on this map, but I've managed to build a small one. I don't think there's room for a large one. And I agree, there is not much fresh water, though I personally avoid placing pumps on rivers.

However, the thing with the ships is a bit weird. I didn't encounter any issues with it, and I always make ship routes with T-intersections, because otherwise the ships will swirl all over the place. Did you perhaps remove any ports while playing? Because that sometimes cause glitches that causes ships to get 'lost'.

I usually try to make my maps suitable for all play styles, but honestly, this map isn't really optimal for a population of 200k. Which is an impressive feat considering this maps difficulty. Maybe my other island map Great Flutland is an option?

Thanks for the tips. I'll keep them in mind with future projects.

ok Zakerias, Teyland is almost full (with 205.000 pop) and i want give some feedback for this map and generally for future maps:

1. There is no flat terrain to build an Airport
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=549239219
Please let in every map some space for an airport! it`s important

2. The system of ship routes collaps, the main problem is the intersection between the island and the outside connections
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=549238646
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=549240178
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=549240938
I think, it would work better if you build triangles instead of a central crossing

3. I need bigger oil ressources :(

4. Not a problem for me (eden project), but for many other: not enough fresh water, because the "rivers" are too small.

Thank you for the map :) I think i`ll try out other maps from you, and i hope that you take note of my feedback
