Yeah, I agree the guitar probably wasn't the best example.

I also prefer original Japanese words to loanwords if there's a choice, and there are quite a few words where they provided an alternative to loanwords. Some examples are box (hako), rug (juutan), orange (mikan), dice (saikoro) and door (tobira).

On the other hand, there are indeed still a lot of words where only loanwords are provided, but I don't know in how many cases an alternative would make sense.
Do you have some words in mind where you think an alternative Japanese meaning is missing? If so, we could list those examples in the Suggestions thread, and ask if they could add some additional meanings. ;)

guess it wasnt very convenient from me to pick guitar. what i was trying to point out is that around half of the items are just leanwords. what they could have done is adding a second meaning in japanese where possible even if it's less common than the leanword

I don't get it. In Japanese, a guitar is called ギター ("gitaa"), and that's how they translated it. What else should they have done?
