Saving your progress (in case you lose it due to events beyond your control)
By DeadPoolX
Ironcast only lets you save while in the hangar between missions, and destroys your campaign if you die. That's fine for a Roguelike, but what isn't okay is that you also lose your campaign if you leave the game for ANY reason during a mission. Real life calls? Power outage? Game freezes? It doesn't matter, in all scenarios you'd lose your saved game, and that's just not acceptable.

Introduction
Ironcast is a Rogue-like, so it's expected that when you die, you lose your saved game. That's fine.

What isn't okay is that the only place the game saves is within the hangar, between missions. This means that if you quit the game (voluntarily or involuntarily) you lose all of your progress.

So if real life calls, or you have a power outage, or your computer freezes up, and so on, the end result is you lose all of your progress. That's simply not acceptable in any decently designed game.

Therefore, this guide is how to instruct you to "fix" this problem by getting around it.
Warning!
The method I am about to describe could be used to do something that's referred to as "save scumming." Please don't save scum and accept your loss if you die. Remember, what I'm about to show you is intended for use if you lose your progress due to events beyond your control outside of the game itself.
Instructions
In order to back up your save game, you first need to find it.

Before we go any further, make sure you have "show hidden files, folders, and drives" turned on.

If you don't know where to find that, do the following:
1. Go to any folder or directory, and click tools at the top.
2. Now select folder options. From there, click the tab marked view.
3. You should now see a section labeled hidden files and folders, underneath which are two options. Select the second option which says show hidden files, folders, and drives.
4. Before you close that window, make sure to click apply to all folders.

Now, click on the Start Menu and type in %appdata%

You should now be in the [profile name]\AppData\Roaming folder.

At the top, click on AppData. You should see three folders: Local, LocalLow, and Roaming.

Double-click on the Local folder. Now scroll down until you find a folder named Ironcast.

Double-click on the Ironcast folder. What you should see now is a folder with a long string of numbers. Inside that folder is where your saved game is kept.

You'll now want to copy and paste that entire folder to another folder elsewhere on your hard drive. It doesn't matter where, but to keep things orderly, you might want to create a new folder on your desktop named Ironcast and place the save game folder in it. That way you can find it easily if and when you need to restore your game.

Something else you'll want to do is create a text file (right-click on the desktop, choose new, and then text file) and within that text file, write the following: C:\Users\[profile name]\AppData\Local\Ironcast

(NOTE: C:\ is the default drive for the AppData folder, so if you have the AppData folder somewhere else, make the necessary adjustments. The section labeled "[profile name]" refers to your computer profile name. I don't know what that is, so remember to enter that in if you decide to copy and paste that directly.)

Now stick that text file in the new Ironcast folder on your desktop. DO NOT put it inside the actual saved game folder. That text file will remind you where you need to place that saved game folder if/when you need to restore your campaign. Otherwise, you'd have to remember it or write it down somewhere yourself.

You're done! If you now lose your saved game and campaign progress for some reason beyond your control (such as your computer freezing up), you have a way to fix it.

Well, I wish I had realized this was a possibility before now. :( Just logged in and my Global Progress is somehow reset to 0! It started with the tutorial, which surprised me since I just played yesterday. I was close to level 40, I believe. 30 something, anyway. :( Following your directions, there wasnt even an IRONCAST folder where it was supposed to be (but it appeared just a minute or so after reaching the location, only it was populated with the ZERO progress just created). I have NO idea what could/would have caused this information to be removed from my system, but it is very disheartening!

Good guide, easy to follow, corrects a big flaw that should have been fixed by the devs long ago. 10/10.
