After realising that there isn’t any way to upload Snapmatic photos in 1080p, I found an easy way to take even better screenshots and share on Steam!

The idea is to record your gameplay and then edit it using Rockstar Editor. In shorter words; you will be editing your recorded gameplay and capturing a still image. Easy!

It might seem overwhelming and too much work at first, but once you do it, you'll get the hang of it and realise it's actually not too much work at all!
STEP 1 - Location

First of all, go to the location you’d like to take screenshots of. In this case, I drove to the beach near the amusement park and waited for sunset because the lighting is extra beautiful and gives the whole image a new atmosphere.

Hint: You can also just play your game without having to drive somewhere specific. For example, you can just rob a store, race, beat up someone, run away from cops or just blow things up. Do whatever you want to capture as a cinematic screenshot!

STEP 2 - Recording

In order to record your gameplay, hold down [ALT]. This should show 2 options at the bottom left above your radar. Press [F1] to start recording (see Picture 1). It should start recording now (see Picture 2). Feel free to either move the camera around the area for landscape shots, or move your character around doing things.

When you’re done, hold down [ALT] to bring up the options again. Press [F1] to save your recording (see Picture 3) and we’re good to go.

Hint: If you’ve recorded your gameplay in First Person View, you won’t be able to edit the camera position in the editor, so please make sure that you set your view to how you want your screenshot to be when recording your gameplay in first person. If you use the Third Person View, it won’t matter how you record your game because the editor will allow you to change the camera position to your own liking.

Also, keep in mind that if you record in Third Person and switch to First Person while still recording, you WILL NOT be able to edit the camera position later on! Therefore, always make sure to either keep it in First or Third Person View only.
STEP 3 - Rockstar Editor

If you are in an online session, switch to Single Player and press [ESC] to pause the game. Open the Rockstar Editor from the menu (see picture above).

HINT: If you play on settings lower than Ultra, you can set everything to Ultra before opening Rockstar Editor. This way, your recording will be shown with Ultra settings (meaning higher quality images). However, the downside of this is that it might lag a lot for you depending on how well your system can take it.

In the editor, select Create New Project and then Add Clip as shown in the pictures above.

Find your gameplay video and press [ENTER] to open it. Your clip should now be in a timeline. Press [ENTER] again to edit it.
STEP 4 - First Person Shots

I’m using a First Person View video for this demonstration. As mentioned earlier, you cannot change the camera angle if the video has been recorded in First Person. The Camera option should therefore be disabled. Go to Depth of Field and Effects to play around with those settings and edit it (see picture above).

When you’re done playing around with the effects, press [H] to hide the HUD, hide your mouse cursor by moving it to a corner and take a Steam screenshot. Voilá!

STEP 5 - Third Person Shots

For this, I’m using a video clip I recorded in Third Person View. The Camera option should now be available because the clip has been recorded in Third Person View only. In the Camera options, set your Camera Type to Free Camera and select Edit Camera to edit the angle (see picture above)

______________________________________________________________________________

Use [W, A, S, D] to move around and [Arrow Keys] to tilt the camera. You can also use [C] to zoom in. All available options are shown at the bottom of the screen and the possibilities are endless! Once you’ve set the angle to your own liking, press [ESC] to go back to the other options.

Again, go to Depth of Field and Effects to apply your final touches. When you’re done, press [H] to hide the HUD, hide your mouse cursor by moving it to a corner and take a Steam screenshot!

This is all you have to do in order to take gorgeous and the most interesting shots! Like I said earlier, it might be overwhelming and slightly time-consuming, but once you get the hang of it and really want to take interesting looking screens, you won't mind it.

I'm not the best at explaining things, so I'm really hoping this was helpful for some of you. Please do let me know if you have any questions!

PS: This isn't the most convenient way to take screenshots if you're mainly playing online (like me). It'd be silly to keep switching from single player to online, so instead of editing the clips mid-game, I highly suggest you to just play, record your clips and when you're done playing, just sort out your videos and take your screenshots before closing the game. That's how I do it anyway!

Thanks a lot for reading!

How do you then get the screenshot saved to your drives though? Because up until now, I've just been screenshotting my screen with the edited R* Editor image open with all the HUD hidden. Is there a better way to keep image quality high?
