Black Screen Crash Fix - Raedric's Hold
By Adamethius
My name is Adamio and I fix leaky game pipes... by adding another pipe. Or hitting it with a wrench. Sometimes a tearful prayer would work.
The following is how I found a way to fix this stupid bug long enough for me to get out of that stink hole.

First off, I would like to say, that Obsidian should hire more people to test their games; people who can test their games and find a freaking fix. People like me. If this doesn't work for you, I'm sorry. lol

So basically the following was how I was able to get better workaround on the issue without disabling achievements for "cheating" your character out of the area. You mainly have to find a way to disable the auto-save feature long enough to get out of that dreadful place. The best way to do this is to temporarily replace the file that has the line of code that does the auto-saving.
Le Fix
  • First you will have to download this zipped file:
    Le file.[www.nexusmods.com]

Once you open/unzip it, you will notice that the file name is - Assembly-CSharp.dll

  • Second, you will need to find the place where the original file is. Mine is found in:
    D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity
    \PillarsOfEternity_Data\Managed\

  • Third! Rename the original file by simply adding "_orig" to the name. So basically it will now be called Assembly-CSharp_orig.dll -- once you are done with this, copy the downloaded file into the folder. It should now take the place of game file for duration of its stay in that folder.

  • Load your game and save file - get out of that cursed place. Save.

  • Feel happy and thankful to Adamethius. Sing praises.

  • You may either keep the file as long as you want but I recommend deleting the file once you saved and are out of the keep. Simply delete the file in the folder and rename our "_orig" back to its rightful place.

Hi Jamie. I think the issue is that the game has been updated too many times already for the mod to work. All it does is it disables Auto saving. So if you can find a mod that does this, or if the game has already added a way to disable it, then you should be good. Otherwise, try finding a mod that does it - like maybe this? https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/255 - Have not tried it though.
