"When we originally put the Die Guy into our early prototypes, it was meant to be a temporary placeholder. Clearly inspired by the Shy Guys from our fave game series Mario Bros, we built it because we were just learning out to use some new voxel tools and he was easy to create! Then we plopped him into Retro Rising Rampage which was just a free demo we put out for fun, and next thing you know, he kinda stuck around. When we finally took him out of the game as we were upgrading the character art, people started going "Hey... I liked that dude! I want him back! And you know what, so did we!

So we decided to take the concept of the Die Guy one step further than just being a clone of the Shy Guy. We wanted to make him all our own. And what we came up with was something that was a mix between a Shy Guy and a Minion. We kept the geometry ultra simple, and give him distinct limbs, even if they are ultra low and kinda derpy looking. We were going for that cute and loveable in the oh so mischievously deathly sorta way. After all, these critters are part of the red army, an elite fighting force sent by the mad god to take you down.

The art has evolved from several artists who helped out over the last few months. Oleg created a couple of cool variations, and you seen his work in the creation of the mad god, but ultimate we settled on a version that Juno created since it matched up with the voxel look very well. We then took the concept, modeled it, textured it, rigged it, animated it, and slapped it into the game!

If that all sounds complicated... it is. We'll make a video sometime to show you how the creative process went, because it's always fascinating to see all that."
