Introduction
This is my second guide for Millennium series, I also wrote one for Millennium 2. As with the previous guide, my goal is to help you through some of the more difficult achievements and to also help you complete quests in the right order so that you will not miss them. Due to the nature of this guide, there will be spoilers. However, to minimize spoiling, I will order so that it comes to you as you progress through the game. This guide is not a walkthrough. I played through the game using the excellent free Gamezebo guide as well as purchasing the official guide from Adorlea. Both guides were good, I really liked the quest and secret room info from Gamezebo, but the official guide had some stuff (items) that wasn't mentioned and I liked their playthrough order better. However, despite following 2 guides, I still managed to screw up some quests and hidden areas and had to do multiple reloads! So, this guide is to help you avoid that. Also, neither guide mentions Steam achievements, so I'm here to help with that as well.

Also, I recommend 3 things before you get started in the game. #1 is to import the game from the previous series. While the game can be played as a stand alone game, it will be a much harder, the plot won't be as gratifying, the characters as funny etc. Would you pick up a book and just start reading it in the middle? If you start with 3 instead of 1, that's essentially what you're doing! : )

#2 is easy, just play with visible enemies. It makes fighting them when you want to grind easier and lets you avoid them when you're in a hurry.

My other recommendation is that you play the game on hard mode. It's really not that difficult and I am the type that typically does NOT play stuff on hard. But you get more achievements that way, in fact a lot of the animal kings do not show up unless you play it on hard. There are 11 of them total and only a few show up in easy mode. So, if you're going for achievements, play on hard mode. You just have to grind a little bit more and if you're converting, I think you'll find this one a bit easier than M1 or M2 anyway. On to the guide, huhuhuhu!
Early Game Hints
There are 2 secret rooms in the very beginning cave. If you miss them, you cannot go back to them ever! So do your best to find them. One of them contains a really important item, it gives Marine the very handy heal spell that you will use throughout the game.

After you leave the cave, there is one more missable secret when you reach the bridge. Before the big fight on the bridge, find the secret room because you cannot return to this area.

If you are importing, be sure to give Marine the Cloud Cap. I also gave her the virtuoso belt, but you could also give that to a harder hitting character. It's quite nice on Abu as well. And don't forget about the amazing alchemy hat for another character.

And speaking of importing, hopefully you have some diamond nuggets from those crabs at the end of M2. Selling just a few of these will really help you at the beginning because you can boost your party's stats at the various stat guilds. If you managed to farm enough of them, you can save the game, sell off enough of them to get 99,000 gold for the Myst'Rockfeller achievement, and then reload. Why reload? Because money doesn't transfer between game conversions but items do and there's really not a whole lot to buy in Millennium 3.

Also, early on you will find a certain spot along the north road to Mystrock. It looks like this:
Keep this place in mind, it is very useful for grinding out a lot of achievements later.
Little with a Big Heart Achievement
The text description for this achievement is incorrect. You do not have to get into 130 fights with Merline. You actually need to get 130 kills with her, which is a lot harder to do, at least early on. To get this achievement quickly, goto my favorite spot at the cliffs. Just have Merline and Marine in the party. If you have more characters, it will take longer and the wasps will run away more. Simply tell Marine to defend and have Merline throw firecrackers at the wasps. A lot of firecrackers... The nice thing about that spot is that there's 2 easy wasps right there and when you kill them, you go in the door and right back out again to have them respawn. If Merline takes a dirt nap, just have abu revive her, don't waste a mandragore. After a lot of grinding, you'll get the achievement. It's worth noting that Merline stays in the party the whole game, so if you don't feel like doing this now, you can come back whenever or just put her in the party and hope she eventually gets to 130 kills naturally.

This wasp area is also a great location to get easy kills for Jack and James for their achievements as well.
The Orc Fort / J' N J Achievement
The story is pretty straighforward to the orc fort. Just keep in mind that after defeating the orcs, if you decide to destroy the orc fort, you will not be able to return to it. Destroying the fort also gets rid of all your dynamite and it's an optional thing. Note that just the orc fort is destroyed, not the caves before it so you can still fight the Urza Queen and do the toolbox quest in the caves. You just won't be able to jump down the pit again. So be sure to loot it carefully and find ALL the secret rooms, there are quite a few here. Also, following the guide, I killed all the optional orcs. I am not sure what happens if you spare them, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Also, a tip submitted by ladynadiad, Quest #4, find the missing child, is missable! You need a dynamite to complete it back in town. The safest way to complete this is to use the elevator to return back to town before freeing all the prisoners and finishing the orc fort. If you really want to be safe, exit before going up against the orc lord, probably could use a rest at HQ anyhow. Read on before turning in the orc quest.

Now after you get Jack and James, you attempt to put them into the party for the J' N J achievement. Nothing happens! The description for the achievement is incorrect. So I tried fighting stuff, I thought they might need to have a certain number of kills together, nothing worked! Finally, I assumed I had to beat a bunch of quests with them. So I made sure they were both in the party and then I talked to the village elder to tell him about the destruction of the orc fort. When I finished talking to him, the J' N J achievement triggered!

Also, an alternate method to getting the J N J achievement, once again submitted by the very helpful ladynadiad. "Have both in the party, go to headquarters and leave. Achievement popped then. Maybe it actually is both of them being in the party but just happens to only run the check when the party splits and rejoins?"

After doing this, the Gamezebo guide recommends you head to the Forbidden Zone next. I actually found the Ancient Temple very doable at this point. It has some good loot, is the best source of gold in the game, and is actually pretty easy with the wand of the sorcerer (matramatru skill).
Jack's Promotion
This is a minor point, but one I managed to screw up so I figured it's worth mentioning. There is a book hidden in Mani's Shack in the Forbidden Zone that gives Jack a better promotion than Acrobat. I promoted him early and missed it. It was a minor setback as I didn't really use him to fight, but just keep it in mind.
Dwarf King and the Swamp
Once you head to the swamp, inside secret room #20 is the dwarf king. He's supposedly a tough fight, but I one shotted him with Abu using the Orc Warlord's Axe and Power Ring (Virtuoso Belt might be even better here for him). Now, once you beat the Dwarf King and get the Maddening Axe, the game becomes a ton easier. Just put the Axe on Abu along with the Virtuoso Belt. He will 3x attack, killing most monsters in one hit. I find it to be a turning point in the game.

Also, take note that while you will be very powerful with this setup, there is a reason for possibly not going back and taking out a lot of animal kings early. The reason is that later on Quest #26 - Gates of Night requires you to fight every animal king that you have previously killed, in a row, without saving. Of course, by the time you get to this point in the game, you will be very powerful and it shouldn't be a problem but it's worth noting. It sounds scary but it's not impossibly difficult. I managed it on the first try fighting all the kings but 1. If you don't mind backtracking around for the various animal kings later, you can save them until after you've completed quest #8 and then beat Quest #26 earlier on. It's up to you.
Quest #8 - Find the Lost Library
This is the one quest that I managed to screw up royally. It CANNOT be completed after the main plot is done. You can do the quest, but you don't get the proper reward for it. So as soon as you goto the Castle of Malice for the first time and return to get / fix Gravitron, FINISH THIS QUEST! I had to reload over an hour's lost gameplay including the end boss fight due to this. Get it done before returning to the Castle of Malice and you'll have no problems.
Tricky Trident
Just a note here that I used Salome as a main character and had her use the eternity trident at all times. However, there's some sort of a strange bug where she will randomly equip a different trident. It only happened to me a few times, but it was pretty annoying because one of the times was during a boss fight. If you notice she is hitting for a lot less damage, she has probably switched to a different trident. If you leave it too long, she can lose her powerful mermaid form so just be aware. This bug seemed to hit me towards the end of the game only. Just keep this in mind and check her trident before big boss fights : )
Castle of Malice after Gravitron
So, just a word of warning here. Once you go through the sparkles after placing the cup on the throne, you cannot go back. You can't rest and you cannot go back and get the secret rooms in Castle Malice if you missed them. There are 2 in Castle Malice that you need to get before you continue, Secret Rooms 26 and 27. Make sure quest #8 is done as well!
Cheesy Dragon Tactic (optional)
So this is a technique that is pretty cheesy overall. It also spoils a bit of the plot, but will make the end boss fight easier... Scroll down at your own risk:

Here it is, the tip! Before you fight the dragon for the second time, make sure that Marine, Salome, and Gravitron have the best gear. If you need to, strip off the gear of your other fighters and give it to them. For me, this meant giving Gravitron the Maddening Axe mostly. This will make the end boss fight easier.

The Lost Library (Quests 16 - 29)
Once you've found the Lost Library, you can save the quests there until after you beat the main game. You may want to get quest #29 over quickly, however. Once you enter, you will be prompted to SAVE the game. Saying this is a good idea is an understatement. I highly recommend MULTIPLE saves for this place and all these quests. Even following the Gamezebo guide, it can be tricky. You have to do the quests in the correct order etc. One wrong click can ruin them, prompting a reload. A lot of the quests are pretty easy, but a few have the potential for a screwup. I will detail a few of the more difficult ones:

Quest #23 - The Lost Orb. If you move these orbs onto the wrong wall, they can get stuck. I accidently pushed the blue one up, which called for a reload. Be careful here.

Quest #26 - Gates of Night. As previously mentioned, this quest can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. When properly geared, a lot of the animal kings are a joke, often dying in one hit. The Orc Avenger is probably the toughest, the Urza Queen is pretty annoying, the strange bone thing is a tough fight, and the Assassin can be difficult. The rest are pretty easy. I actually beat this one on the first try, fighting every king except the titan. It can be difficult but hopefully you have abu on mad axe / belt patrol and Gravitron's laser to beat them down.

Quest #29 - Heroes Never Die. This is actually quite a challenge. The first few times I attempted it, I failed. The key to this quest is to divide up your party correctly. At first, I was concerned that I'd be leveling Piu-Piu to 50, but luckily this wasn't necessary! All you have to do is give Marine the best gear, then put one member from your main party in each fight. For me, I used Gravitron for the first fight (which I find the most difficult), Karine for the 2nd fight, Salome and Benoit for the 3rd, and then Abu and J + J for the fourth. I threw some of the rather unleveled characters in there as well and I never bothered to use J + J much, but they really were just there to absorb a few hits! : ) Of course, this depends on how you level up your characters. I used Abu, Salome and Benoit almost exclusively for the early game, then once I got Karine I dumped Benoit for her. I didn't bother to level Jezebel since she was absent for most of the game. Of course, your playthrough may be totally different but whoever you used the most, be sure to divide them up evenly among the fights.
Quest #36 - Lord of the Assassins (Animal King)
This guy was a real jerk, he gets his own special section. The first time you fight him, it's not that bad. However, the second time when you have to fight him alone is really difficult. REALLY DIFFICULT. I tried a bunch of different techniques, different equipment setups and just kept dying. After probably 20 to 30 deaths, I finally figured out the secret.

The way to beat him is to put on as much evasion gear as possible and then make sure Marine's HP is high enough so that she can survive a round if he hits her all 4 times. Then the other key is to get lucky!

Put on your cloud cap, virtuoso belt, and make sure you have a LOT of HP on Marine. I tend to hoard all of the stat increase items and never spend them, so it really pained me but I had Marine eat 3 of my precious earth hearts (they add 30 hp each) so that she would have enough HP for the fight. Then save it and hope you get lucky. I was level 57 when I beat him, but I think he would be beatable at 55.

When the fight starts, you have to use White Orb. This lets you take some of his hits and it also seemed to make him miss me more often. I could not win without doing this.

Then on the second turn, you throw a box of bugs at him. Yeah, really dramatic I know. The world's greatest assassin bitten by a stupid centipede or something. But you can bet that he probably didn't train to defend against a peasant in a pink dress throwing a box of bugs on him in assassin's school! It's so crazy that it works! Well, actually, it only works some of the time. Sometimes he's only bit by a praying mantis or a ladybug or something and it does nothing. Seriously, if it does not inflict "poisoned" on him, you're going to die so just hit rush and reload. If it inflicts just bleeding on him, that will wear off before he dies, if it doesn't inflict anything you're super dead! If you're really lucky, you might get both bleeding AND poison on him! (This only seems to happen about 1 time in 20, however) Just hope he doesn't get a critical hit on you with a little luck of his own. So get him poisoned and then just use a healing item on yourself that heals for 100% every turn. Hopefully he doesn't crit you and you'll eventually win!

If this proves too difficult, there is a something that makes this fight a lot easier. You can do it by beating the game / plot and returning afterward. Spoiler warning for a major plot point! I don't recommend reading this until after you've beaten the game!
You get Jeanne back after the final boss. Summon her on turn 3 of the battle for healing to make this fight a lot more manageable! Thanks to ladynadiad for the tip!
Other Grindy Achievements
After beating the main game, you will probably still have some achievements left to go. Here are a few tips to help you complete them.

Basket Case - This one is pretty difficult to get. I only got it near the end of the game having done every optional side area and finding all of the hidden rooms. Don't panic, just expect to get it quite late in the game. Luckily, it does work.

Myst'Rockfeller - This one is pretty difficult to get. Unlike Millennium 2, there really isn't an area that has great gold drops. Hopefully, you imported from M2 with a bunch of Diamond Nuggets. If so, you can do the save, sell them, reload trick to get the achievement easily. For the rest of us, myself included, I did not farm enough diamond nuggets. I think I came in with maybe 35 or 40 of them or so. I sold about 12 of them in the early game to pay for a bit of gear and to improve various stats in the main party. This left me with only 27 spare nuggets. So, I had to grind to get the rest. The best place I found was the Ancient Temple and it really wasn't that great. There are some evil knights on the road to castle malice that drop about 700 gold, but they do not spawn reliably. Sometimes you have to fight the huge orc thing and that takes forever. If you find a spot that pays better, please comment and let me know. The group of zombies when you first enter the temple gives about 320 gold per fight and they can be one shotted with a first striking Marine casting Matra Matru from the Wand of the Sorcerer. This still means you need about 300 fights with them to go from 0 to 100k. Hopefully you will have earned about 20-30k along the way. Also keep in mind that you could try saving and selling all your gear off, then reloading after the achievement. The one good thing is that all of this fighting for gold counts towards the next achievement...

Myst Veteran - The 1000 fights thing is rough. This was the last achievement I got before ending the game in Green Grass. However, I discovered a pretty handy trick. Fights still count towards the total even if you escape from them! This makes it a lot faster. So where did I head to? You guessed it, my favorite spot with the wasps! By the end of the game you're so fast you can always escape and you can get your fight total up by retreating rapidly from those crazy wasps. I miss the muskrats and fat bees!

Sherlock Learned From Me - I thought this was broken because it didn't trigger when I completed all the quests, animal kings, and secret rooms. Luckily, it triggers when you actually go to green grass and beat the game!

Master of Time - This one, I did not try to get. I don't do speedruns. I don't like to be rushed through the story stressing about the time. I prefer to take my time and enjoy the game, maybe sip a beer, read some guides about it etc. : ) However, it triggered when I beat the game on hard mode. I didn't time it but I think I spent more than 13 hours, Steam says 20+. I'm not complaining though!
Conclusion
So, I hope you found this guide helpful for some of the tougher fights, quest order and achievements. If you liked it, please rate it up and feel free to leave a comment! If you're having trouble with a certain quest or boss that I didn't mention, just leave a comment and I'll try to help and add a section to deal with that. And with that, on to Millennium 4! I leave you with the eternal wisdom of James.

Great guide. Only Quest 2 is dangerous too. First you need to speak with the lady in the house of earth to get the quest, then only merline get poxed and you can get the cure. I was nearly missing it if you dont play step by step by the online webside guide ^^

About Lord of the Assassins. I managed to kill him at level 44. You don't have to attack him single time, just get as much evasion and physical resistance and keep defending. You can also set strategy to counter hits. My equipment was : Kid gun, Automatic Chain, Paladin Helmet, Octopus Skin, Soul Orb.

1st turn: throw box of bugs.
2nd turn: white orb
3rd turn: DEFEND

Keep defending till you are about 170 hp, then use 100% hp potion. I defeated him without using single potion. He was doing 28-34 damage each attack, sometimes was missing. Also remember, that you can always use Prayer from Salome before fight. Good luck !

Found another way to get the J' N J' achievement. Have both in the party, go to headquarters and leave. Achievement popped then. Maybe it actually is both of them being in the party but just happens to only run the check when the party splits and rejoins?
