There is a second campfire in Argo to the rear and left of the town hall.
You're wrong about east and west being flipped, you're just using the south end of the magnet for north.
West by south west (east by north-east using the "sun rise is west" theory) from Kur's tower is a third burnt out village.
There are two intact stone houses and a campfire almost due south-west from Kur's tower. These make a good start to a town as they are on the edge of a very wide beach.
The Sundered Island is an actual island. It takes about 3 days to circumnavigate it at walking speed and stopping at night to build a fire. On the south of the island are a series of dolem stones with large dragon statues topping them and on the beach in front of one is an alter with a green dragon scale.
I'm utterly lost and can't find my way back to Argo where all my gear is.
I think the only way to currently measure distance in this game is by time. Using a stopwatch, at normal walking speed, how many minutes to cover the distance between points.
