That explains it pretty well.
East is not on the Left and West is not on the right as indicated in your picture. The compass is not move"in the opposite direct you are facing". The compass always points North as you wrote.
The needle-arrow does not, and should not point in the direction you are facing when going East or West. Just as in the real world the needle-arrow always points North.
