The beginning
You start out with your left over fleet from the last mission (As per usual) and are told to fly to the otherside of the map to dock with a relay device (Another screw up is avaliable here, however, lets move one at a time) The moment you start moving forces into the abyss you are attacked by automated turrets and you get a warning that hyperspace signals have been detected but no ships were found
The asshat that steals your ships
They lied, this mofo (Junkyard Dog) appears and for some incredible reason has the ability to steal even the biggest of your ships that would usually require 6 salvage corvettes
Where he comes from
He comes from one of these things, a Hyperspace gate. Although there are 8 of them, he will always spawn from the one closest to your capital/frigate class ships
Well why not just kill him?
Because the things got an insane amount of HPs! 110600 to be exact. Insanity.
DONT DESTROY THE HYPERSPACE GATE
If you do this in an attempt to stop him, he'll just run to where the gate used to be and sit there with your ship. You cant attack him for some unkown reason so he just sits there holding onto your ship and you WONT get it back. Although youll be able to see your ship thats been 'stolen', unless you have direct LOS you wont be able to see the junkyard dog, so your ship is stuck unable to move because the junkyard dog is still holding onto it, but it isnt going anywhere.
How to get away with it, step by step
1.Dont destroy the gate
2.The junkyard dog will steal your ship
3. If you go explore to one of the other gates your ship will be sitting there marked as an enemy but wont attack you
4. Grab 6 of your favourite salavge corvettes and send them over to pick it back up and return it to your fleet. Easy as pie :)

You are forgeting the most important part of Homeworld, 3D strategey. Last time I did that mission I built nine scouts, had them go under everything, then as I had them travel strait up to where you need to dock them I had them destroy each turrent individualy. once that is done dock and you are good, you should only lose about five scouts. Don't bother with rescorce collecting you will just lose your collectors. This is the esiest mission in the game if you know what you are doing.

Park a Gravity Well generator next to him and blow him away. That's what we did in HW1 classic.

Still seems to work.

I just rushed that map along with flock of fighters, lol.

How I did mission:
- not use heavy ships

- take a large groupd of fighters and corvettes and fly above ( out of reach of automated turrets ) - sending them to a point above the the target.

- all strike craft and corvettes attack the defenses around the relay device from above - during the mess select one strike craft at random and order it to dock.

It's easier to just bypass the whole map by flying your strike craft only above it.
