I have seen many youtubers and STEAM broadcasters getting lost as soon as they leave their island and starting all over again. Sometimes they find their way back, sometimes they don't. If you're like me, who goes to one island to scavenge a few things and go back to the Spawn Island, you will find this REALLY helpful and find this guide a real time-saver. When you've wasted all of your island's resources, you'd want to go to another island to scavenge, or go to the nearest ship wreck. Both are good ideas, but there are many dangers that turn it for the worst.

Let's begin with the essencials, shall we?:

  • Any raft. Life raft is good, but the Wood Raft is better because it can be upgraded with a motor.
  • A paddle if you don't have any jerrycans.
  • A spare jerrycan or two if you DO have a motorized raft. There's nothing worse than getting lost because you don't have any gas.
  • An axe, of course. There will never be a shark-free expeditions. If there are, you're one lucky mother humper.
  • A flashlight, torchlight or flare. But these are optional, if you're going at night.
  • Food and Water, of course.

Aaaand that's it for our list. Remember, food and water are for the obvious long time you will spend out there, so bring plenty. I would say to bring bandages, vitamins, morphines and antibiotics, but they take up space. If you're going at night, you'll need any source of light (hey that rhymes!). They don't ward off sharks, but they enhance your visibility at night or in dark areas under water. If you're going on a motorized raft, bring plenty of jerrycans, you'll need them. That's all I can say, good luck and have fun exploring!

This is not the end though, so don't close this guide now!
Ship Wrecks and Plane Crashes
These are the most beloved thing (or things) for the survivor, as they bring a wide variety of useful loot such as:

  • Bandages
  • Duct Tape
  • Morphine
  • Vitamins
  • Antibiotics
  • Engine parts (Carburator, propeller, fuel tank, engine)
  • Axe
  • Machete
  • Compass
  • Hammer
  • Flare
  • Flare gun
  • Flashlight
  • Torchlight
  • Lantern
  • Lighter
  • Goggles (no current function)
  • Flippers (no current function, but changes footsteps sounds.)
  • Bucket
  • Pocket Knife
  • Air tank
  • Paddle
  • Water Bottle
  • Whistle
  • Jerrycan
  • Cloth
  • Beans
  • Binoculars
  • Speargun

All of these items (save for two) have their uses and are live savers and can really turn the tide whether your suvival will come to an end or you're just delaying your demise or, if you hit the jackpot, extend your life to more than 5 more days! Believe me, it feels amazing FINALLY find the last engine part, a bandage, an axe and a bucket. Truth be told, I nearly cried.

Now, don't think finding these sites are easy. Well, sometimes they are, sometimes they're not. Some spawn IN or around some island while the mayority spawn in deeper, dangerous areas where even Great Whites are found in.
Bubbles, or Crash Sites.
Most wreckeges are found under water, typically exposed by bubble particles in the ocean surface above them. These bubbles are a holy sign for struggling suvivors. And like mentioned in the past section, the wrecks can also spawn in islands, called crash sites. Now not all crash sites and wrecks are the same. Some are small boats, others are big boats, and rarely, planes. Each boat and plane are different and offer a random amounts of loots. And with their different sizes, come with different amount of containers with loot. Learn you ships and planes, and expect many, many good loot. But remember, if you're looking for bubbles, look for that at daylight. They're harder to spot a night and, obviously, harder to navigate around. Bubbles are only visible from afar between 9:00 and 15:30. All other times of the day they still appear but are much harder to see due to the poor light.

You'd be wanting to look for these, as these are the indicators of a shipwreck below.
Dangers in the deep.
Now, don't expect to go willy-nilly into ship wrecks without expecting dangers, cuz there are, an are plentyful.

You will mostly encounter lionfish and sea urchin, both poisonous and can envenomate you with a single touch.

Although rare but posible, you will also encounter sharks. If sharks are a huge issue, and don't know how to avoid them or kill them, refer to my guide below. Also, drowning is another common thing to die to. Just keep your wits at you and be careful.

Here is my detailed guide about sharks, as promised:

Traveling from island to island.
It's quite a problem, running out of resource in your island. Your best bet is to go out on a Expedition and get to another island for resources. Once you got what you needed, you go back but then get lost and find yourself in the wrong island. I've seen this happening to youtubers and broadcasters alike. There are a few reasons how or why they get lost and they are:

  • Either they've caught up to a bad weather such as fog or heavy rain, both limitating and shortening your view distance
  • Or didn't use a compass (at least a mental one) to track down the direction to their island. It doesn't to stare at the sun for a while. Don't use the moon, cause it will throw you off. Unless you use the moon, and not the sun.
  • Or they have a bad sense of direction.
  • Or they don't seem to care at all, which is the most common thing I'm seeing.

If you hate getting lost, look for a land mark on your island. It could be a big rock, a tall palm tree, a flat sand plain, maybe certain crash sites and bubbles around your island. Or prepare yourself a mental compass. Sun rises from the east, and dawns at the west. The moon rises and sets in a different angle, so use ONE of them wisely.

A good tip I can spare you is to travel to the CLOSEST island to yours. A close island has a visible beach and more defined palm trees and boulders.

Another good tip is to mark islands with sticks, palm fronds and even your paddle! Use your paddle to mark YOUR island if you land on a new one, and can also use the raft to help out the paddle! Use fronds to mark an island with plenty of resources. And the stick to mark an island with all of its resources used up. Trust me on this one, guys. It's a life saver.
That's all for now!
Have fun exploring! Hopefully you'll find live-changing loot!

Edit #1: Wow, 500 views! Thank you guys so much!

Edit #2: Darn, almost a thousand views!!! Please rate some stars into it, I would appretiate it! Thanks!

A big shoutout for Ryoujin, who told me about the raft being a good marker to exit islands. Nice!

Any time! :) Though I'm not new to SD, your Guide is still very helpful! Will you be updating it when the update comes out (which should be any day if they stick to their routine)?
