Time & Weather
If you have not yet read previous parts, I strongly suggest you do before watching this video.

if you have been following along with mission creation, load up your mission. Click the move trigger or ship button and select the tugboat. This will bring up the trigger tool box.

First, we want to adjust the time of day so we’re not operating at dusk. In the trigger toolbox click on the Top clock that says “local time when hovering the mouse curser over it.

This will bring up a box reading Starting time, from here we need to enter a time between 0 – 24 based on a 24 hour clock. You will need to type in a number, let’s type 11 and hit the Enter key. This should now be fine, so let’s save the mission and load this mission

When you play this mission you can see it’s now late morning.

Let’s load up the mission again in the mission Editor. You can also select a trigger and use the local time button in the trigger toolbox to change time once the ship passes a trigger.
Next, let’s adjust the weather conditions. If we select our player ship and then click the weather button in the tool box we will have a selection of properties we can adjust. We can change the cloud density, add varying levels of rain and snow. We can also adjust wind speed and wind direction.

Right now, the Wind speed is set to 255, this means that it is in a sense disabled. Standard sized wave effects included. However, if we change the value of this and hit enter the wave height will increase

Because we have set the weather to the player ship, this means that it will begin the mission with these weather conditions. If we want to change the weather conditions mid mission we have two options. The first by selecting one of the green triggers and changing the weather settings for that particular trigger. This means that when the player reaches that trigger, the weather will change.

However there is another way to create changes in weather conditions. By placing a common trigger. To create a common trigger you will need to first de select your ship, you can press the button beneath the Ship name to de select a ship or a trigger.

Now, if you click the new trigger button and click anywhere on the map, you will create a white square which is known as a common trigger.

The reason for creating a common trigger is that they can change weather and time conditions without green mission marker arrows being seen by the player in game. So if you want to steadily increase wave height, you would place several of these along a path you expect the ship to travel and then increase each triggers weather conditions. Now, when playing the mission, weather will change accordingly.

In the next part I will show you how to add AI ships.
