By ehyder and 1 collaborators
You know you wanted one! All of those 'what does that mean' questions you are asking about the achievements are answered here. Also included are some tips about how to get some of the less obvious, or more difficult, achievements. Please let me know if any of this information is incorrect or requires more explanation. Other suggestions about how to get the achievements are welcome.

Campaign - Introduction
You will get a lot of the achievements just playing the game, e.g., Collector, Shopping. But you will need to work at some of the others, and quite a few of the descriptions are a bit vague about how you are supposed to get the achievement, or even what the achievement is really about. Quirky achievement descriptions are deciphered below along with some suggestions about how to get the achievements.

I placed the Achievements into three general categories:
  1. Just Play the Game: in general you will get these through your normal game play, especially if you are going through the campaign.
  2. Do It in One Level/World: these are achievements that you have to complete in one level/world. Again you will probably get a lot of these while you are playing the campaign but you may need to think about them a bit more to make sure you fulfill all the requirements in that one world.
  3. Work for It: as the name says, these achievements take a bit more work. They are going to be straight out harder to get (more strategy involved) or time consuming (so very many hours of gameplay) or both.
Campaign - Just Play the Game
.jpg]Bad day - Giant mite killed a dwarf. First world, first dwarf, cut down tree, manually control dwarf when tree drops a mite, make dwarf stand there until it dies. Restart game if you want.

Bra-a-a-ins! - Collect 100 zombie’s brains. Not sure if this has to be in one level but just fight off some waves when you are ready, or wander around at night.

Chicken exterminator - Kill 10 chickens. Forest world. Do the blue birds count on the Ice World? Probably, but it does not matter, it is easy enough to find and kill 10 chickens in the Forest World.

Flying assistants - Cast imp spell once you get to it in the Tech Tree.

Get your own skeleton in the cupboard - Collect 100 bones. Again not sure if this has to be in one level but just fight off some waves when you are ready, or farm the graves.

Goblinator - Kill 10 goblins. If you are careful they won't kill you first.

Gourmet - Cook all dishes. You are going to pretty much want to do this to get through the Tech Tree anyway or to work towards the Total Crafter achievement.

.jpg]Long-playing - Above 100 hours in the game. Does not have to be in a single game. Clock starts after update 0.9.033. Hours played in game before this update do not count towards the achievement. This should be less of an issue for most players now.

Long way begin - Craft 1st item. Receives the award for easiest to achieve and oddest achievement name.

Megacrafter - Craft 200 items at a time. You know you are going to make more than 200 torches/grain anyway. Just do it all at once, once. Do not make 200 torches 20 torches at a time. Make sure you have enough ingredients and pull that crafting lever to the max. Making grain is a very satisfying way to get the achievement. No waiting around for dwarves to take the items to the warehouse - goes straight into inventory.

Oktoberfest - Give beer to all dwarves. If you have not given beer to dwarves yet you really should, they will go faster. No sleepy, beery dwarves here.

.jpg]Shopping - Spend 200 gold coin. It does not have to be in one level. Some bugs reported on getting this achievement. Don’t try too hard, you will get it eventually.

Sinbad the pedestrian - One dwarf passed 1000 blocks. I do not even know what this means. Collected 1000 blocks? Walked 1000 blocks? I am assuming walked with pedestrian in the title. Does not matter, just keep playing and you will get it. Runner up for most incomprehensible description.

Survival - Survive a monster’s wave. Pretty sure this means you have to have at least one dwarf at the end of a wave. Just build defenses and/or keep your dwarves out of the way, and done!

Total annihilation - Kill 50 goblins. The faster you kill off a goblin camp the sooner the next one will spawn and the more loot you will get. Win/Win.

.jpg]Total crafter - Craft all tech tree recipes. Do this in campaign mode on all of the worlds so that you have access to all recipes. You do not have to craft something you crafted in another world so you can focus on the unique items when you get to the next world. Do not forget all of those ice items on the ice world. And craft those pies on the forest world, there are no apples falling from trees in the other worlds. Picking up loot does not count, you must craft the items yourself. If you get to the end of the campaign and the achievement has not triggered open up your previous worlds and look for any recipes that have a different color background. Once you craft an item the background color changes.

Who needs elves! - Archers kill 100 foes. Does not need to be in one level.
Campaign - Do It in One Level/World
Bookworm - Read 100 books in one level. I had to go for this one twice since the first time I got it apparently did not count.

Collector - Collect 999 resources in one level. Dirt!

.jpg]Disinsector - Destroy 10 nests of giant ants at one level. Do this on a larger world where there will be more nests.

Even alone is a warrior! - One dwarf kills 100 foes. This may seem hard if you have not played the game much but once you get the hang of it this becomes a ‘Just Play the Game’ achievement. Second place award for oddest achievement name.

Manufacturer - Build 10 machine-tools for items crafting in one level. Make and place 10 work benches then recycle most of them. Runner up for most incomprehensible description.

Railwayman - Build a railway 102 blocks long. Use ice or desert world in campaign mode to give you more horizontal space, or medium/large world in custom. (Thanks to xenxander for pointing out the first and last rail do not count in the tally.)

.jpg]Reviver - Revive a dwarf from soul keeper. Craft a Soul Keeper and the Potion of Ressurection (Basic Alchemy 8th column, 1st row.) This can be done in the campaign mode and you might be able to earn this in multiplayer as well. To craft the Soul Keeper you will need to dig deep for crystals, ore, and dragon egg. Alternatively, you can buy items in the shop. For the dragon eggs: you will need to reach the lava. The best way to get an egg is to make a bridge of earth just above the lava and the around the egg with a controlled dwarf. For the Soul Keeper: To use it after a dwarf dies go to the equipment view to the far right to see the dwarfs souls. DO NOT click on the arrow unless you want to discard the soul. To revive the soul, use a Revive potion while selecting the soul you want to revive. A dwarf revived will spawn with all his/her equipment and skills.

Sapper - Use Magic Explosion spell 10 times. I was only able to get this one when I made sure I used the spell 10 times in one level. And yes, that is a lot of mana.

.jpg]True dwarf! - Collect 200 gold ore. All in inventory in one level/world. Wait to craft gold items until you get this one. Or start a big world in custom where there will be lots of gold. (+) You can also buy the gold ore left in the shop as it count toward the acheivement.
Campaign - Work for It
.jpg]Armageddon - Have 5 simultaneously open monster portals. You will only get 5 portals on Nightmare difficulty. It takes somewhere on the order of 15 hours for the fifth portal to open. Good luck, and bring a good book!

Bloodlust - Kill 10 monsters in 2 seconds. Not nearly as bad as other achievements in this category, but you might need to think about it a bit. You will need a lot of dwarves (10 is good), and a lot of enemies (at least 10 clearly although I recommend more), and maybe a fire spell to soften up the enemy. I recommend ants. A double ant farm is really good for this one.

.jpg]Dungeon Keeper - Complete 4th level of campaign.

.jpg]Foreman - Improve all of a dwarf’s skills. One dwarf, three skills at 100 without boosters, i.e., statues or accessories. Lots of books - go for that Bookworm award at the same time.

God hand - Kill 100 monsters with your spells. None of the spells are really powerful enough to get this one easily on the harder worlds. And it is unclear if the mage potions count. If it is just fire and magic explosion this one can take a while, and lots of mana. Go for this on that easy custom world you are using to get other achievements.

.jpg]Hardcore man - Reach 12 level in hardcore mode. This means permadeath. But it does not mean you cannot play it on easy difficulty. Go figure - your dwarves cannot be replaced if they die (permadeath) but they are very hard to kill (easy difficulty).

.jpg]I am a pharaoh - Build shelter inside a pyramid. Building the shelter is not hard, getting all of the undead out of the pyramid first is hard. You could cheat and carve out a bit of pyramid (mithril pickaxes) and stick up a totem. But where is the fun in that? (And I have not tested to see if that would work.)

.jpg]Invulnerable - All dwarves survive at a level. This one is easier than it sounds, at least for now. Make sure you do not exit a campaign world missing dwarves. Losing dwarves in the campaign does not prevent you from getting the achievement but you must wait until all lost dwarves are replaced before exiting. What I would like this achievement to be instead - No choice, you have to nurse all those dwarves through one campaign level. No killing off dwarves with those less useful skills.

Land holder - Complete first level of campaign. Build a portal on the forest world in campaign mode, and exit the portal.

More snails! - Convert 50 monsters into snails. This just takes time since you cannot control when the mages will use the potion.

.jpg]Naturalist - Investigate all creatures. All 35 of them - must visit all world ecosystems. Dragon eggs do not count. Scorpions only appear on the desert world and it took several scorpion encounters for this achievement to finally register for me.

Palace - Build shelter with 100% comfort. Good luck with that. The easy - hard way: Clean out a pyramid on the desert world, put in doors, throw up a totem and lights, throw down a bed. 100% satisfaction. The dwarves must really like pyramids. Other suggestions: small shelters with no dirt walls, lots of light, and a good bed

.jpg]Persistence - Break 10 pyramid blocks. Not hard, just a bit tedious. Do not do this until you have mithril pickaxes. Combine with ‘I am a pharaoh’ and ‘Tomb rider.’ Turns out it is easier to persistently attack pyramids from the bottom/side to avoid the traps.

.jpg]Professional miner - Extract all minerals at one level. Groan. Lots of scaffolding, lots of torches, lots of mining. This was easily the most tedious achiement, even beating out the Armageddon Achievement. Mainly because many of us had to try for this on several worlds since we apparently missed a block of something somewhere in the world. Do not try to be strategic, just take out ... everything. Back blocks, front blocks, everything from the mountains down to the lava core. Only do on smallest world, easy, custom.

.jpg]Sand master - Complete third level of campaign. Build a portal on the desert world in campaign mode, and exit the portal.

The worst that could happen - Kill 10 giant skeletons. This one just made the ‘Work for It’ instead of the ‘Just Play the Game’ category because these guys will destroy your dwarves if you are not careful. You will want decent armor, lots of health potions.

.jpg]Tomb rider - Break the pyramid’s sarcophagi. Get this one with ‘I am a pharaoh’ above.

.jpg]Underground king - Reach 14th level. This one should be called the 'I have nothing better to do' achievement. Getting up to 14 dwarves in your little dwarf kingdom will take a long time. The most effective way to get xp after all the achievement points are gone is to kill things, so it is best to maximize your world's spawning potential. Do this on the desert world in campaign mode where you can rack up xp from achievements and farm the statues in the pyramids for the undead. Do not destroy the statues! Do not destroy graves either, you will want those to get xp from the nightly skeletons. And you will start to wish the waves came more frequently. Do not attempt this on a small or even a medium world, you will run out of things to do/kill long before you hit level 14.

Winter master - Complete second level of campaign. Build a portal on the Ice World in campaign mode, and exit the portal.

.jpg]Worm hunter - Kill a giant worm. You see the worm for the first time in Ice World campaign mode at the lowest depths of the world. The worm will never appear in a Forest World.
Multiplayer - Introduction
In Multiplayer Mode, there are two general categories of achievement :

Just Play the Game: in general you will get these through your normal game play, especially if you play both Player Versus Player and Co-Op games.

Do It in One Biome: these are achievements that you have to complete in one biome. These can be really tough, and time consuming.

I also added a preview and some tips for both multiplayer games at the end of this guide.

Now let's talk about how make a multiplayer game :

You can make a multiplayer game on any campaign you wish as long as you do all of the required parts below. If you are not good at Player Versus Player I suggest you use your main campaign world, the one with the highest amount of dwarfs.

First you will need to gain access to the improved portal in the Technology Tree:
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=613681888
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=613681975
Then you will need to gather stuff to upgrade the portal. You need to have a workshop to make planks and to dig deeper to get silver and golden ore:
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=613682049
After that you will get a new spell which cost no mana and allow you to search for multiplayer games. Select the spell, cast it on the screen and then set up the rules and maps you want to play. Note that you can also invite the friend you want to play a Player Versus Player or a Co-Op game.

Have fun with Multiplayer!

Multiplayer - Just Play the game
Sliders - Travel to any biome. Join your first multiplayer game.

.jpg]Liberator - Free 20 yetis from captivity. You can only find captived yetis in the first map, in any multiplayer mode. The easiest way is to play a co-op mode, dig until you reach the ennemy camp. Then left-click on each yeti to free them, an icon is displayed and you need to wait about 5 seconds to free one. This achievement can be done in several playthroughs.

.jpg]Burst of greed - Bring back from biome at least 1000 resources. In every multiplayer biome you bring back (all the raw stuff ? and) the reward of your playtrough. This achievement can be done in several playthroughs.

.jpg]Multidwarf - Play 10 multiplayer battles. You just need to play multiplayer games whenever you win or loose it.

.jpg]Great Explorer - Win 50 battles at biomes. You can win a co-op game whenever you're second or first instead of the player versus player game which you need to be the last survivor.

.jpg]Get strong together - Win 10 cooperative multiplayer battles. As already said, you can win a co-op game whenever you're second or first. I recommend you to read the co-op preview and tips section of this guide to enjoy your playtime.

.jpg]Alpha Dwarf - Win 20 PvP multiplayer battles. You need to be the last dwarf stamding in this game. I recommend you to read the co-op preview and tips section of this guide to enjoy your playtime and help you to win a PVP game.
Multiplayer - Do It in One Level/World
.jpg]Thief - Steal at least 100 items during 1 battle at the biome. Just play a co-op game, free some yetis and use imps in the ennemy camp and they will steal every stuff they found. You'll find a lot of stuff after destroying each ennemy's tent.

.jpg]Overboost - Grab at least a half boost rooms at the biome. You can have this one in any multiplayer game. A map contains 5 kind of boost rooms for each player even if you can steal the boost rooms of your opponent. If you zoom out the map with the mouse wheel you can see the boost icons. Sword for 6 Weapons, Armor for 6 Amor pieces, Potions for about 50 Potions (it can be life, mana, magic and perhaps the revive one), Shooting Tower for 6 Wooden Towers or 6 Tesla Tower and Ore stuff containing several kind of ores and others. Be aware, when you are close to a boost room the boost icon disapear so it's better to use a label or to memorize the location. Finally each boost room are guarded by one or several zombies. One tip is to make them reach the sun to instant kill them.

.jpg]Mercenaries exploiter - Use at least 50 mercenaries during 1 battle at the biome. This one can only be done in the third map in one player versus player game. This one is really time consuming, let say about 3 hours to get it done according if nobody leave the game or is disconnected. I really recommend you to achieve this one with a friend as there is the "Invite friend" option when you set up the rules of the multiplayer game. The best way is to recruit 50 beasts as mercenaries as they cost only 2 gold coins each so you need to have 100 coins to achieve it. You get coins when you kill the night foes and when you dig the ground. I suggest you to have more than 6 dwarfs before achieving that as you may lost several dwarfs at the begining of the game or during it. The best way is to find a treasure room which contain a pile of coins that worth about a dozen of coins and sometimes a tricky golden statue and also a black dragon guarding it. The best way is to kill also the dragon as he may give several coins, but you can ignore or avoid him as he is almost harmless and will fly at the highest place he can find. Also I recommend you to take the tricky golden statue first and to put it in your shelter as it increase the luck to find golden coins. Then you can gather the golden pile of coins. I believe you can find more than 2 treasure room in a map and so you can have 2 or more tricky statue in your shelter that may significantly increase you luck to find golden coins. Finally you should also dig the foreground and background to gather much more coins.

Multiplayer - Cooperative Game Preview and Tips

First of all you can always access to the help section about the multiplayer by clicking on the book icon. So here are the related pages about it.

http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=613682305

As you begin, you'll have your 6 dwarves under your control. Let's explain the HUD as there is some few changes. Be aware that I used a Player Versus Player screenshot, there are a few differents.
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=620026653
In the screenshot above I pointed out some interesting things from 1 to 9.

On the upper left corner :
1 - The number of dwarves available in the biome.
2 - The transfering arrow button.
3 - The number of dwarves available in your home.

The transfering arrow button will allow you to send one more dwarf to the biome. This only works if you have less then 6 dwarves as you can't exceed that number. You may call one dwarf at time and need to wait about 2 minutes for him to arrive.

In the middle :
4 - Your copartener's pseudo, marked on his stockpile.
5 - Your copartener's pseudo as a label, located on his stockpile.

You can always directly see your copartener's base by either using the label or clicking on the map. To do the first one, you need to click on the label button with a "Home, Gold, SIlver" labels picture located on the right side of the screen. Then click on the label of your copartener.

On the lower right corner :
6 - The map of the biome.

The green dots represent your dwarves and the blue one your coparnter's dwarves.

On the upper right corner :
7 - The speed of the game.

It can be set on 1.5 or 2 time(s) faster speed. I recommend to turn it to 1.5 during difficult battles or when the connection is bad.

On the lower part :
8 - The hotbar.

The hotbar contains several ready to use stuff including 3 spells, and some foods and beers if you use the second hotbar by holding the control key. Note that you have also some other raw materials and one golden totem in your inventory.

On the left side of the screen :
9 - A coparnter's dwarf.

A coparnter's dwarf is recognizable by a blue glowing part around him.

When one player destroyed the ennemy's core the game is over and the rewards's screen pop. Let's have a look at it.
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=620026161

The screen is divided in two parts, your game informations and rewards and the one of your copartner. Let's talk about the 3 highlighted parts.

1 - The player's score in percentage.

The player with the highest score have better rewards than the other.

2 - The scoring method and related scores.

Be aware that I'm unsure about some scoring methods.

Let's talk about the first column.
- The first one is the score rewarded by attacking or killing dwarves ? This one is not used in a cooperative game.
- The second one is the score rewarded by attacking or killing foes.
- The third one is the score rewarded by digging tiles.

Now the second column :
- The first one is the score rewarded by taking boost rooms.
- The second one is the score rewarded by crafting stuff ?
- The third one is the score rewarded by casting spells ?

3 - The rewards.

Please not that you will carry also some other raw materials if I'm right.

Multiplayer - DLC
I have received very few of these since the Mac version of the DLC keeps being broken but, for the sake of completeness, I am listing them here. As, if, I am able to complete them I will add more comment and put them into categories. I do know that some of these can be completed playing MP solo. Let me know if there are any notes that should be added as you collect achievements. Some of these are, again, ambiguously worded.

They do not, so far as I know. I picked up several new achievements during the new DLC while using a mod that removes the armour speed penalty. Several of the achievements are buggy and do not trigger reliably, especially the multiplayer ones.

hello, did mods disable achivement? I think it's lock them, I don't receve some of them and I play whit some mods, but I don't know if it's a bug or not

Correction, found 8. :)

@Tamren - Thank you. Found 9 of them that way.

@Adam J - I forget the exact list, but there's an way to figure it out. Go into the game directory and open the Editor program. Use the file menu at the top to open the item editor and switch it to the furniture tab. Any banners that are granted by achievements will be listed as separate furniture items and tell you what achievement gives what.

Anyone know which ones give pennants that you can hang in your strongholds? I have 2 so far but I believe there are 10.

We need all the MP achievements, would be great!

Thank you for the guide, But could this list be updated please? It's missing some achievements.

That world is the "third world" for the mercenaries exploiter achievement? There is the forest, Elven, beetles, and the underground biome.

So, where do I find a pyramid now?
