Hello everyone. ^.^

My name is FrostyHoneyJuicy, and in this guide I will teach you in a few words, how to manage all the craziness of the Super Hexagon.

~ I really love to play Super Hexagon and I still play it. ❥

So if you need me, comment down bellow all questions, which you want me to answer, and especially some suggestions, which I may add to my special guide.
Manage your Gaming Setup:
We may play Super Hexagon on any platform like on:
Computer, Tablet and Smartphone.

With:
Keyboard, mouse and controller/gamepad.

My Recommended Gaming Setup: Computer (Desktop or Laptop) with a keyboard and headphones.

But here are some things, which we have to know about the setup:

Desktop:
+ Big Screen (Depends if you have 16:9 widescreen, not 4:3)
- A bit harder to feel the pulse of the game, because the screen is a bit far away from you.

Laptop:
+ Easier to feel the pulse of the game.
- Smaller screen

Tablet & Smartphone:
- Small Screen
- 2 hands are required to play the game.
- Your arms will be tired pretty quickly of holding.

Keyboard:
+ 1 hand is required to play the game.
- Loud keyboards may distract you from playing, and sometimes your finger(s) can get stuck.
- Small keyboards can be difficult to use, because their keypads (buttons) are small. Pretty obvious.

Mouse:
+ For beginners it's much easier to use.
+ 1 hand is required to play the game.
- Harder to feel the pulse of the game.

Controller/Gamepad:
+ Easier to use for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo players.
- Harder to use for keyboard players.
- Reaction time is much slower.
- 2 hands are required to play the game.
- Your arms will be tired pretty quickly of holding.

Headphones:
+ Easier to hear the pulse of the game.
+ You may hear 8bit sounds easier, even if the volume is not that big.

Speakers:
- Harder to feel the pulse of the game.
- Can be distracting.

Remember: If you get used to your setup, then this list doesn't really matter.
How To Play:

Using Keyboard:
A and D keys or Arrow keys: and
Using Controller/Gamepad:
1 Joystick or Arrow keys: and
Using Touchscreen:
(Smartphones, Tablets)
2 thumbs or 2 other fingers
Levels:
The game has overall 9 levels. Let's go in order:

    Difficulty: Harder
  • Hexagonest
    Difficulty: Hardest
  • Hyper Hexagon

Special thanks goes to Portal #1 Fan for his artwork:

The Lady in the Background:
Isn't she annoying? Probably not. I was just curious.
The lady in the background is actually very helpful, while you play the game.

So, what does she do?
She basically says the time in the shortest way, so she doesn't disturb you, while you play the game.

Here are the quotes:
  • Super Hexagon - You launched the game OR you just beat the level, which wasn't completed.
  • Begin - The game has started.
  • Game Over - You lost.
  • Line - You beat 10 seconds.
  • Triangle - You beat 20 seconds.
  • Square - You beat 30 seconds.
  • Pentagon - You beat 45 seconds.
  • Hexagon - You beat 60 seconds. Now you're in the different level.
  • Awesome - The level has changed.
  • Excellent - You beat your record.
  • Wonderful - You beat the level, which wasn't completed.
Remember: It's not a quote, but 0 is always a Point.
Shapes: Squares, Pentagons, Hexagons:
So recently a lot of people are having trouble to beat some shapes.
I am going to list only special shapes:
Unfortunately those shapes, don't have names, so I will name them for you!
Also, you may watch on Youtube someone else's moves in 0.25 speed.
I will add my videos as soon as possible, so you don't have to search in the future.

Take care of yourself!
In the beginning, it's really difficult to play, especially when you don't know anything.
Here are some useful tips, which I highly recommend to do and use:
  • You must get used to controls!
When you get used to controls, you will be able to tell, how fast is your triangle moving.
In different levels, triangle's speed is different.

  • Try to feel the current level's pulse and the speed.
If you can feel it, then you're good to go. Just keep practicing if you keep losing. Trust me!
    You're not that far away.
    • Hexagonest: Get used to the spin, and try to predict the time of the spin's appearance!
The first spin usually occurs at 11-14s, the second at 25-29s and the last one at 54-64s. The last one is pretty hard to predict, because it may just not appear. Music can help to predict it. Spins occur randomly. They also appear in the level of the Witness End, as well.

  • Music: Turn the music ON or turn it OFF completely.
Usually, the music helps to play a game, brings the joy of the game, keeps timing and more.
If you're playing the final levels like Hexagonest or Hyper Hexagonest, and if you feel really annoyed, then I recommend to turn the music OFF completely OR you better take a longer break!

Also, let's talk about the behavior, metal health, or just about the brain itself:
  • Take breaks, if you can't beat the current level!
Breaks help a lot. Especially longer ones. Basically just do something else. Don't think about the game. Or just don't look the screen, at all. Just turn it OFF. If you still play Hexagon, and if you got only like 10-20 seconds on your record, AND if you took a break, then your record will increase, without any doubt.

  • Don't be a Tryhard. Be more positive!
Don't let your anger increase. It's just a game. You can't beat it within one day, one week, or one month. Anger may turn you into the pessimist. In stead of feeling mad, I would suggest to think something possitive about the game, because you may complete the game much faster, than being angry. (At least it helped for me!)

  • Blink multiple times, before and after the game.
Think about your vision, and keep thinking about it, even if you're playing something else.
[NOT IMPORTANT:] If you beat all levels and if you still play Super Hexagon like I do, then I challenge you to blink all the time during the game.
But if you're the beginner, then you ain't gonna do that well. Just blink and you're dead.

  • Feel something itchy on your body? Be like a Honor Guard.
Seriously. Even if you're not a beginner, the game makes your body feel very itchy. So I suggest you to ignore the itchiness, at all.
You know, Honor Guard doesn't even move even if he feels that something is itchy or even if someone said something bad about him.
    Simply, just ignore the pain!

  • Don't panic!
I know it can be hard for the beginner, but if you panic - you fail!
If you feel brave and if you got everything in your hands - you succeed!
Like I said before, get used to the speed!

  • Believe in yourself!
Just relax. Take it easy. Cause there is nothing what we can do!
Just keep practicing, and you'll be fine! But don't forget about the breaks!
Game Options:
Step 1:
When you launch the game, you have to go to the right, to see the button called OPTIONS.

Step 2:
Open it, and you should see this screen:

FAQ:

Q: What is VSync?
A: VSync is shortform for Vertical synchronization.
In video games, if you rapidly turn around, you will experience a phenomenon called 'screen tearing'. This phenomenon is caused if your graphic card is working faster than the refresh rate of your monitor. Turning VSync on tells the graphic card to not produce updated imagery (frames) any faster than your monitor's screen rate. Depends if you have 60 - 75 Hz; 120 Hz.
Q: What is Arcade Mode?
A: For Arcades, Tournaments, Parties and Events!
If it's enabled, then you won't see your best records. Everything will be like from the beginning.
Except, after you lose, you have to write your name, so you can save your record in the leader board.
If you disable the Arcade Mode, then all your old records will be back.
Q: My xBox 360 controller/gamepad isn't working! What do I do?
A: Select Configure Joypad, and be sure that you see:
  • Disable Joypad button. If you don't see it, then select Enable Joypad button.
  • Customize Controls button, with the text saying Joypad is Auto Configured for Xbox 360 Pads. If you don't see them, then select Switch to Xbox Mode button.
Music & Sounds:
Located Music & Sound Files: (For PC only)
Music: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Super Hexagon\data\music
Sounds: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Super Hexagon\data\sounds
NOTE: Any changed file will always count as cheating, especially if you're trying to beat world's record! It's actually okay ONLY, if you're playing just for fun.

About Sounds:
Some people usually get annoyed by Begin and Game Over sounds. You may delete those sounds in the sound folder, so you may begin the level, and die in the peace. OR you may also move those sound files somewhere else, so you can save them just in case.

About Music: If you change songs, then your result(s) will be permanent, so backup your files, before you change something.

Conclusion:
Hopefully this guide helped you a lot, and saved more time instead of struggling all day.

Remember: During the game, you ain't gonna remember everything what I said, because you will be most likely concentrated on the Super Hexagon.

Have Fun!

Just swing from left to right periodically. It might be quick if you're in the middle, but it may also feel lengthy if you reach one side of the puzzle.

@Walther von Stolzing

Tbh, I have no idea. I have never used a gamepad for the Super Hexagon. All I do is I research stuff & read a lot of reviews for weeks & months, so I don't get in any trouble.
If you have a gamepad, then you can just give a try. It won't hurt! :happy_creep:

Remember: All you need is you have to get used to your setup, so it's comfortable to play the game!
And also: Don't ask me about the gamepads, 'cause I am not a console player. You can ask someone in the forums or just simply Google the question.

Does using an analog stick allow for a more granular control of the triangle?

I think the default 'minimal step' of a keystroke is a little too wide, while playing with a KB or M.

@❄ FrostyHoneyJuicy ❄ Also, do you have any tips on the witness end stage? Because that would be helpful to me.

Thanks for the VSync thing, makes the game much easier to interpret. Seriously, I challenge EVERYONE to try and beat Hexagonest with VSync off.
