Annoyingly placed turrets aren't challenging. Annoyingly placed turrets are annoying. It's better to put these in a puzzle configuration rather than an combat configuration. The story mode of Portal 1 and Portal 2 have done this but the commentary described it as a "light combat mechanic". It was meant to never be taken to extremes.
