Extended Controls
By jeremylee
This guide serves to help improve the speed in which you can get things done. With V1.04 patch, it's recognized that other than a set of customizable controls, there'll be a need to display all other controls that might not be too intuitive.

Most of these controls, if not all, are based entirely on your mouse or pointing devices.

Extended Controls (Basic)
Things will sound really basic here. Though you might have already known what it does, it may be wise to read up for more information.

Note: The mouse orientation here is based on a right handed user.

Left Mouse Button (Click)

- Picks a unit, structure, depress on buttons or other widgets
- Confirm relayed orders such as
  • Move (by clicking on the move button or by pressing its default shortcut 'm')
  • Attack (by clicking on the attack button or by pressing its default shortcut 'a')
  • Move Officer (from the officer's dossier)
  • Deploy Bombers (by clicking on the deploy bomber button or by pressing its default shortcut 'b')
- Confirms placing a structure, in which the structure will commence construction
- Upon pressing the UNC Global Repair ability button, use the left mouse button to pick structures for repairs.

Right Mouse Button (Click)

- When units are selected, right mouse button triggers a smart-click.
  • Move (in formation or into a wormhole)
  • Attack a target (if clicked upon a target)
- Cancels a structure placement before construction. (ie, during preview)
- If a shipyard or unit building structure is being selected, a right-click on an empty space will place a deployment position.

Left Mouse Button (Hold)

- When dragged, a box will appear over the battlefield. Once you release the left mouse button, a selection of ships will take place.
- Should a structure be chosen to be constructed or spawned, a temporary translucent structure template will appear to assist you in placement. Should you hold and drag, you could rotate the orientation of the structure to be placed.
- In the scoreboard (V1.06 onwards), hold the left mouse button to make things faster by 3-4 times.

Right Mouse Button (Hold)

- By default, if you hold, the point scroll cursor appears. (A cross cursor)
if you drag while holding the right mouse button, the map will scroll based on where and how far you move the cursor away from the cross cursor.

Mouse Wheel (scroll up / scroll down)

- The mouse wheel only serve a single purpose; to either zoom in or out of the battlefield. Roll forward to zoom in, roll backwards to zoom out.

* Note: As the camera zooms out, its perspective will be tilted to look more bird's eye view than isometric view.
Extended Controls (Intermediate)
Intermediate controls are for users who are already familiar with the basic controls. Otherwise you may not understand the purpose of these controls.

Left Mouse Button Double-Click

- if you double click on empty space, nothing happens.
- If you double-click on a particular type of unit, all of its type that belongs to you within your viewable area will be selected.

Right Mouse Button Double-Click

- An alternative method to cancel the UNC Global Repair tool.

Hold SHIFT + Left Mouse Click

- If you select your own unit, you could continue to pick additional of your own units into a multiple ship type selection.
(P.S. Structure selection has a separate set of rules)

- If a group of your units are selected, you could use deselect individual units by holding SHIFT and left click to deselect the unit you don't want in the list.

SHIFT key as a toggler for ship selection.

Hold CTRL + Right Mouse Click

- If a group or a fleet of your own units has been selected, this combination will make the group or fleet move to a single point. This is a typical CTRL+move command. Your ships will temporarily gather at a single point but will quickly scatter when collision avoidance rules kick in.

- If a friendly ship is being picked instead of a spot, then the selected ships will follow this friendly ship as long as it's within sight. It's possible to follow it thru a wormhole but not possible if the ship can't be found in the subsequent sector. (ie, the ship is too fast and the following ships couldn't catch up).

Note: FYI - For those who ask why the ships don't avoid while enroute - the reason is simple; your ships are already rather slow, doing so will only cause you to miss an opportunity to escape or attack from behind. Performance is another reason, but of a lesser importance.

Hold SHIFT + Double Left Mouse Click

- Same effect has double left clicking except that it'll add all the ships of that selected ship type into the selection in the viewable area. Useful for adding ships of different types into a selection.
Extended Controls (Advanced)
Here contains the final chapter for extended controls. If you haven't read the 1st 2 chapters, it's highly recommended that you go through them first before reading on.

Advanced controls provide intriciate combinations that help speed up your game experience.

CTRL + Double Click Left Mouse Button

- Select ships that either or not belong to a fleet. However, you must first hover your cursor over a ship type with the right fleet identity (assign to a fleet or not). Then hold CTRL + Double click your left mouse button.

Effects:
1) If you've chosen a ship without fleet, then only all ships of that type without a fleet will be selected.
2) If you've chosen a ship that belongs to a fleet, then only all ships of that type in that fleet will be selected.

In all cases, the existing ship selection will be cleared.

CTRL + SHIFT + Double Click Left Mouse Button

- Same effect as CTRL + Double Click Left Mouse Button except that the existing ship selection will be retained. The selected ships will be included along with whatever ships that might have been selected prior.
