Demonic Powers.

Here's my guide to playing the black deck Lords of Darkness. This deck offers alot of fun for a control minded player that enjoys winning late game. Some of the best removal + big demons offer great fun. Let me take you through my favourite selection of cards for 1 on 1 play. :) This is for fans of the darker side of magic.

Deck Tech pt. 1 - Creatures.

You might have noticed how high these creatures are on the curve. Most creatures in this build are bombs for your deck and dont come out until later in the game.

2 Mortician Beetle

Mortician Beetle can help chump block early in the game and help you buy time for bigger things + he combos well with Diabolic Edict and Innocent Blood. Whenever a creature is sacrificed he gets a +1 counter, so he actually has potential as an attacker since you can often make him a 2/2 easily early in the game.

2 Soulcage Fiend

Don't underestimate this guy. He can drain down your opponent and secure a win later in the game and get you ahead early on. I have won many games simply by playing him and throwing a Diabolic Edict on myself.

1 Shadowborn Demon

A creature with added removal. Throw him down and kill the opponents best creature. He has a slight drawback when you have no creatures or very few in your grave.

3 Bloodgift Demon

This guy is just very good for the deck. Staying ahead of your opponent drawing cards easily overweighs the lifeloss he will give you.

1 Reaper from the Abyss

This guy makes your removal more versatile. Remember you dont have to play him until after something has died. His ability will still trigger eventhough he wasn't in play when a creature died as long as it happened on the same turn.

1 Lord of the Void

He is a gameclincher basically. If your opponent can't block or stop him from attacking the game is pretty much over. 1 swooping attack is usually enough to secure a win.

1 Rune-Scarred Demon

The tutor of doom. Slam him down and fetch what you need the most to win next turn or get yourself out of trouble. Most times I have fetched Corrupt with this guy for a win on my next turn.
Deck Tech pt. 2 - Instant and Sorcery spells.

The main part of this build is removal spells. Here are the instants.

4 Diabolic Edict

Early game removal. Has synergy with Mortician Beetle that will grow if another creature is sacrificed.

2 Doom Blade

A great removal spell against non-black creatures.

1 Hideous End

Once again a non-black killer. I used to play with 2 of these but decided to cut one of them since this card is very dead against zombies f.ex. It is however not that often you will run into this problem.

2 Tendrils of Corruption

A very good card for this deck. The later in game you play it the more life you will gain.

Sorcery spells. More removal spells and other spells.

1 Innocent Blood

Cheap and effective if played early game. Later it can work well with Soulcage Fiend f.ex.

1 Infernal Tutor

The tutor spell. Sometimes used to secure a land if needed. With this deck it is very important to drop lands early on. Mostly you will not start rolling until you have the 5th land down.

1 Exhume

When a good demon is in your grave and your opponent has nothing major in his grave use it.

1 Mutilate

A great card. Kills everything when you have enough swamps in play even indestructible creatures.

2 Damnation

Again.. clears the board kills everything except for very few creatures in this game.

2 Promise of Power

Drawing 5 cards can really swing the game in your favour or put your opponent sofar behind that he might aswell quit. Most times it is the draw option you should be using.

1 Corrupt

A game finisher in it's own right. Most times this will be draining your opponent but it can also be used as an expensive Tendrils of Corruption.
Deck Tech pt. 3 - Enchantments.

Here are the enchantments for this deck. They are used to gain an upperhand and some of them has great synergy with other cards.

2 Screams From Within

This card is used to weaken opposing creatures and sometimes killing them. This card will bounce back into play from your grave if there is any creature in play.

1 Triumph of Cruelty

Thins out your opponents hand. You need to have something of equal size or bigger in play to trigger it.

1 Grave Pact

Makes your opponent pay when one of your creatures die.

1 No Mercy

This will make your opponent think twice before attacking.

1 Diabolic Servitude

Perhaps the best enchantment. Often you will be able to reuse a demon that died + this enchantment bounces back in hand if the reanimated creature dies.
Deck Strategy.
With this deck you want to buy time and win by dropping down a demon or 2 or draining your opponents life down to zero. Keep a watchful eye on the number of cards in your opponents hand and which creatures he puts into play. Sometimes it is better for you not to use a Doom Blade or Diabolic Edict if you have Damnation or Mutilate in hand.
If your life total drops to low you cant use Promise of Power to draw a bunch of cards, so it is important to plan ahead and keep an eye on your life total and how much damage your opponent can do.
In this build there are some key cards that drop your life total a bit such as Soulcage Fiend, Bloodgift Demon and Promise of Power. These cards have helpers though in the form of Tendrils of Corruption and Corrupt.
As soon as you start drawing more cards than your opponent and his hand runs out of cards there is little chance of him avoiding a loss. Discover for yourself how and with what cards you will win.

Enjoy! :)
