if you also consider CP on the field, it's possible they played a CP bank game.. If you keep your CP down you get MP exactly the same as what you gain in AS2.

+ someone leaves that's triple the resources.

It is possible with pay back. 25 minute game you can get on a good payback game 5,000 mp.
with someone crashing for sure its possible.
