Diamond Puzzle and You

I'm making this guide in the hopes to improve players understanding of this short part of The Diamond and hopefully cut back on gensec's gas bill.

What is the Diamond Puzzle?
The Diamond puzzle is a 6x9 grid of tiles that separate you from the Diamond.
To cross you have to use a circuit box that's to the left as you enter. Once used it will display a safe path for you to cross with green lights. Stepping on a wrong tile will fill the room with toxic gas and lower the diamond into the ground.


What is this Circuit Box?
This is the circuit box.


The circuit box changes when difficulty is changed above Very Hard and gains a timer in the top left.

60 seconds on Overkill. 30 seconds on Death Wish.

Both timers start immediately as the hack on the box completes, not as it stops lighting up the correct path. When the timer reaches 0 all tiles will reset and the path will randomize.

Which means if someone is doing the puzzle and runs out of time they will most likely fill the room with gas, lower the diamond into the floor and make the heist go loud if it was already being stealthed.

But it also means that you can reset the path until you find one that you're comfortable with, like a straight line.

This does leave loud games particularly vulnerable since you'll be fighting cops while waiting but also means that you can take your time as much as you like during stealth.
What are the tiles?
The tiles are activated when stepped on and will sink into the floor, this is helpful for finding your way back.

The tiles are triggered when a Player, Joker or Law Enforcer go on them.

The tiles are NOT triggered when the Bot players, Civilians, The Diamond or Artifacts go on them.

How should I do the puzzle?
There's a lot of ways to do this, I probably haven't even heard of some but here are my top 3.

#1 The Code

This is what I use and recommend.

As soon as the hack is complete, open chat and start typing out the directions.

You can do this any way you want, but I prefer shortening left/right/up with l/r/u to save some time.




#2 Vocal Directions
This one involves one player reading the path over the microphone to another player who is running through. This can lead to some confusion rarely, but is a great option if your team has great cooperation.

#3 Photo No Memory
This can be done a few ways but is basically the same.
Can screenshot in-game and look at it through overlay
[May lead to problems with sprinting.]
Take a picture with a phone and use that as a guide, or draw the path manually.
Damn, that was the wrong tile!
Unfortunately it doesn't go through perfectly every time.
Some times the person doing the puzzle has a joker and they run over the tiles.
Swat pushes their way inside and step on the tiles.
Some guy with ill intentions connects and wants to mess with people.

These things happen but they're not always that bad.

The Bad News
The room is going to fill with gas and will harm people who enter the room, and hide the diamond under the floor and will need to be drilled out once the gas stops.

If this happens during stealth the heist will instantly go loud and ruin the achievement
"Cat Burglar".[/h1]



If this happens on a Loud Overkill heist it will fail the achievement
"Diamonds in the Rough".[/h1]





The Good News
The heist can continue and you can still get your money and experience as normal. It'll just take a bit longer and with less things to achieve.
Epilogue
In summation

  • Plan for how to deal with the puzzle and don't crowd the box
  • Keep Law Enforcers, Jokers and people not involved with the puzzle away
  • Use your time correctly and use the timer to your advantage when needed
  • Mistakes happen, don't let it bring you down.

I hate doing this on Death Wish as Single Player Stealth. When youre at least with 2 Players one can reset the path for the way back. Since as Single Player you have to wait for the whole path to be shown and memorize it there are aproximately 15 seconds left what most tries is to short for sprinting over opening and packing the diamond and returning. It's frustrating because the puzzke is almost at the end of the heist and all the sneak action gotta be for nothing again. *cries in looser*

Worth adding you CANNOT jump the tiles. Any time I tried to jump the last row it would still trigger them.

i just recorded the video live on youtube and at the start and end of the video i linked your guide for everyone to see i was very lucky for the first time ever i got a straight line to run to the diamond.

Sure, go ahead.
Guide is very old, made this back when the heist was new. But it seems to hold up pretty well.
Hopefully can help some people get the XP bonus for completing the puzzle successfully, and more importantly not have to drill.
