Defeating Hawkins With Brute Force
By Sanguine Skull
In this guide, you'll be given direction on how to defeat the rival pilot, Hawkins; as well as a bit of a guide on how to just be a ruthless pilot in general. This guide will not cover romances and may skip pieces of the game that aren't critical to the main topic. Feel free to fill in any left out sections of the story with your own choices.

First Encounter
Here are the choices I have chosen leading up to the first encounter with Hawkins. There will be a brief summary for each choice and what choice to pick. I will write [Optional] if the choice doesn't really matter.

Three enemy pilots are attempting to escape the combat zone in escape pods. What do you do?

+ Why should I let those Impie bastards live? I kill them all!

-----

Gender choice

+ Ma'am [Optional]

-----

You joined CoDEC's military as a pilot for one reason:

+ To kill people with official backing

-----

What did you become famous for as a CoDEC pilot?

+ Single-handedly destroying three Imperial warships at the Battle of Crown Station

-----

Note: Now at this point, I'd like to point out that the Particle Rifle and Plasma Cutter are both viable options for defeating Hawkins. For the sake of simplicity, we will go with the Plasma Cutter.

You quickly check the:

+ Power linkages on my sword-like plasma cutter

-----

You were eventually allowed to customize your armature. Your choice was:

+ Upgraded thrusters, which make my Uxbridge more agile.

-----

Your unit has a distinctive name, which you chose yourself. It was:

+ Wardog Lance [Optional]

-----

As you approach the enemy formation, you chose to:

+ Rely on my brilliant piloting skills to take out the enemy commander.

-----

As you start to turn the battle to your favor, your weakness rears its head:

+ Losing the ability to command the other pilots in my lance.

-----

Your lance is heading planetside, how do you want to respond to your second in command's eagerness?

+ Aggressively: I want my lance-mates just as fired up as I am. [Optional]

-----

The Imperials have destroyed a civilian city. How do you respond?

+ Asadi's right! We should make the Imperials pay for this! [Optional]

-----

You need to press through the city to reach your objective. How do you go about it?

+ We have a job to do, and it will be done, civilians be damned. [Optional]

-----

How do you go about searching the complex for the Imperial unit?

+ Sweep the complex as a unit. We would be safer as a group. [Optional]

-----

You find the enemy within the complex. How do you proceed?

+ Make a frontal assault.

-----

You are being attacked by an Imperial machine. How do you respond?

+ Close in and fight it out in melee.

-----

You leave the planet's orbit and head back into space. What are your thoughts on the battle slowly being won?

+ Jealous: I could have gotten more kills if I had stayed in orbit.

-----

Imperial mecha are entering weapons range and preparing to attack. Your response?

+ Attack them and make sure neither enemy machine escapes.

-----

Your lance-mates discover a container. What do you do?
Note: This container holds a particle rifle for your future mech. It is highly advised to grab it when going for a "sniper weapon" playthrough. ))

+ "Hunting down the enemy takes priority. Leave the box."

-----

Hawkins challenges you! What is your response?

+ Accept the challenge!

-----

Hawkins's mecha is closing on you. What do you do?

+ Meet Hawkins's mecha in close combat.

-----

Hawkins decides to interview you. Do you still fight for the same reason?

+ Yes. I still fight for the same reasons.

-----

What do you do in the continuing fight against Hawkins?

+ Fight aggressively to cripple or destroy Hawkins's machine.

-----

You crippled Hawkins's thrusters. What now?

+ Fight aggressively

-----

The fight against Hawkins rages on. What do you do?

+ Press the attack aggressively.

-----

Congratulations! You nearly kicked Hawkins's rear from this solar system into the next!
Time for the next encounter....
Second Encounter
After the first encounter with Hawkins, you get a chance at some R&R back on the Caliburn. While I don't think it matters what you do here, I'd still suggest checking out the prototype mech in its entirety in the Hangar bay and reading up on all the sections of Hawkins's files.

I'm not going to go through every little choice for this next section, but try to be aggressive/bloodthirsty with your choices as much as possible to fill in the gaps. I'm not sure if it makes much difference, but it helps to play the role.

I'll be jumping around a bit with the choices covered here, but we'll start with the prototype mech testing and the civilian ship incident. So lets get to it.

----------
When testing the weapons, be effecient. Don't be flashy and don't be slow.

When your prototype mech isn't responding and you're to take action to avoid crashing into the civvie ship, what do you do?

+ Reboot the flight computer and try to regain control.

-----

The Imperials are sending an army. What mech do you take into battle?

+ I'll fly the Lionheart into battle, without limiters.

-----

How do you plan on fighting the battle ahead?

+ Aggressively. We should try to deal as much damage as we can to the enemy.

-----

The Imperial captain sends in unsupported mechs. What's your opinion?

+ What a coward! Steele's just trying to keep his flagship-and his own hide-out of danger. [Fairly certain this is optional]

-----

The enemy is attacking. What now?

+ Launch a hit-and-run attack against the enemies headed for the CoDEC Task Force.

-----

Enemy mecha are approaching. Which ones do you attack?

+ Charge in and focus on the Grognards.

-----

With the mecha mostly dealt with. What do you do now?

+ Strike at the enemy fleet.

-----

[Skipped a nonessential choice or two]

-----

Hawkins re-appears! How do you act?

+ Attack Hawkins and order my lance to deal with her escort.

-----

How do you engage Hawkins?

+ I'll battle Hawkins up close.

-----

Congratulations! You defeated Hawkins once more! One final effort is all that remains.
Interrogation & Other
Before I skip around to the final battle with Hawkins, there are a few other events that must be covered. As I've said before, I do not think that some of these choices can adversely affect your final battle, but there are certainly some that can screw you over should you make the wrong choice.

After your battle, you'll be sent in to answer questions by a CoDEC spook or some other. Answer truthfully based on your opinions, as I don't think it has any adverse affect on any significant events.

Soon after, you'll get to pick what attachment you want on your new mech, the Lionheart. Since you defeated Hawkins, you get a nice option to add her captured Monosaber to the Lionheart. The spoils of war. Have the Monosaber attached.

One of your skills has improved since the last few battles. I don't think this choice affects much, but since your melee skill and piloting skill are both important for defeating Hawkins, choose "My reflexes and coordination have been honed even more".

Remember to keep answering aggressively when it comes to fighting the enemy and making moral choices. You can slip in a romance, but given this walkhrough, you'll only really be able to romance Asadi and Hawkins.

During the fight for Crown Station, you want to play to your strengths, which is piloting. Engage the enemy at close range whenever possible and with your melee weapons.

When asked what position to take up after the first attack, stay close to the fleet or in the middle for tactical flexibility. Heading for the Imperial fleet will hinder your ability to do the next choice.

After the superweapon is fired for the first time, defend the CoDEC fleet with your lance-mates. This choice will be "Defend the fleet from the incoming attack"

If you want to, you may be able to butter Hawkins up for a romance, but It is not key for this playthrough.. You will be interrogated. To keep your piloting skills (and hand) intact, you need to tell the interrogator what he wants to know. Of course, stalling him the first time he asks by declaring your name and rank may help your case a bit when you escape, but for this walkthrough, just tell him what he wants to know.

When you escape the Imperial fleet, you are free to do one of two things. You can insist CoDEC trust Hawkins, which will likely cement your relationship with her if you're attempting a romance, or you can choose not to trust her, which is probably a wise thing to do, especially if you've already played the game once and know what happens.

Soon after, you head towards the final battle....

Final Encounter
When Hawkins gains control of the superweapon and betrays you, give her the fight she wants!

Unless you want a depressing and bleak ending, either tell her she's insane or tell her you wont betray CoDEC. Insist on fighting her.

Once the battle has begun, get up close with the Monosaber you captured from Hawkins earlier in the game. By this point, it should be clear to you how to fight Hawkins. Get up close with your melee weapon and be relentless.

With Hawkins helpless, what you do with the superweapon is up to you. More than likely, you won't have a high enough Diplomat or Presence skill to convince the Imperials to stand down, so for the sake of simplicity, wipe out the Imperial fleet with the superweapon.

With the Imperial fleet out of the way, the only loose end is Hawkins. How will you deal with her? Do you spare her? Or do you finish her off once and for all.... the choice is yours, pilot.
Misc
I'd like to thank those of you who took the time to read this walkthrough. Let me know if there are things you are confused about or if you simply found the guide helpful. I know I was a bit messy with it and truthfully, I got a little lazy near the end, but hopefully it is enough to get you to where you want to be.

Oh, and if any of you can figure out how to bury Hawkins in a swarm of missiles, please let me know. I'm curious as to how one would get that achievement.

Does following this guide get "The Sword that Cleaves Evil" achievement?

During the 2nd fight with Hawkins you can call Caliburn for a missle swam too. Since calling in missles will HEAVYLY damage the Mech that Hawkins use you will NOT get the mono-saber but as @The Stranger has said you can call in missles at the final fight.
The Stranger 4 Jan, 2015 @ 12:13am
To bury Hawkins in a swarm of missles, you only need to be able to call in help from your Commander/mother ship. This occurs at the final battle with Hawkins when you get to the Lightbearer. During the battle you may have the options to call in for help from your wingman or from your commander/mothership. Pick the commander... I can't quite remember what the exact option is.
