Introduction

The Shivah

In this graphical adventure game, Russell Stone works as a Jewish Rabbi at a poor synagogue in New York City. He is a devout man with a problem. Membership is way down and he lacks the funds to keep his synagogue open. Things are looking very bleak, and he has grown progressively more cynical and bitter with the passage of time. Just as he is on the verge of packing it all in, he receives some interesting news. A former member of his congregation has died and left the Rabbi a significant amount of money. A blessing? Or the start of something far more sinister? Can Rabbi Stone just accept the money and move on? His conscience says no. Step into his shoes as he travels all over Manhattan in his attempt to uncover the truth. Features rabbinical conversation methods, a unique method of fighting, an original score, and three different endings.

Walkthrough

This walkthrough is not really in depth, but should help anyone complete the game. I have stuck with one of the endings, but the end of the guide provides the necessary information on how to obtain the other endings. It should be noted that if I have not specifically stated what to say when speaking to someone, then it should be assumed that you can use any of the dialogue options.
B'nai Ben-Zion (1st Visit)

  • After the service, there will be a knock at your office door. You cannot avoid talking to Sam Durkin, so open the door
  • Exhaust dialogue options and he will leave

  • Use the computer and enter "rstone" as your username and "yenta" as your password

  • Are you happy with this life Zelig?
  • Do you think a rabbi should act this way?
  • *throw a punch*
  • I ask again: How can you live with yourself?
  • "throw a punch*

You will now have the option to kill Zelig by throwing him over the edge. Sparing him or killing him will result in a different ending. For the purpose of this walkthrough, spare Amos Zelig. If you saved your game you can return here and follow a different path.

You're not the only one. Some of the puzzles in the Wadjet Eye games are a bit cryptic :D . I was stuck at the same part for a while too on the original version.

I wouldn't have known that trying to grab Rabbi Zelig's gun again after the option was greyed out from my first attempt would result in a different outcome either!

I don't think I'd have ever thought to log into Rabbi Zelig's account using his dog's name as his password. Was genuinely stuck at that point for the first time in the game, so thanks! I had a feeling that the recently-acquired business card would guide me to the next step, but I guess I needed to sink down to Rabbi Stone's level of moral ambiguity.

HebaruSan, no, you didn't get it. You were supposed to "out-rabbi" Amos. You ask a question, and he should respond with a question. When he doesn't, you throw a punch. I thought it was great.
