A collection of mods that make the game a bit more enjoyable — better FPS, smoother performance, and a third-person view.

I’m not the creator of these mods; this guide just puts them all together so you don’t have to spend time searching for them yourself.

Dynamic Lighting Improvements

This is a simple mod made to improve DQ1&2's overall lighting to improve contrast between areas, make bloom more precise and shadows more defined.

Other tweaks include improved ambient occlusion, distance fields, color balance, reduced culling, and particle effects.

Framerate Cap Fix
This is a simple mod to increase the game's framerate cap.

1. Unzip the mod and CHOOSE ONE folder based on the framerate you would like to set:

90fps
120fps
144fps
180fps
240fps
900fps (unlimited)

2. Enter the folder and copy/merge the "Game" folder inside into: <steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game

3. When finished you will have the following files:

<steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game\Binaries\Win64\FPSFix_NUMfps_vX.Y.Z.asi
<steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game\Binaries\Win64\dsound.dll

Note: You may need to disable vsync in the game settings if you have not already done so

Third Person Battles
I’ve been using this third-person mod since the previous game, and it makes the gameplay feel a bit more dynamic. Personally, I love it and usually have it installed every time.

This mod reverts an odd (often-criticized) design decision with the HD-2D remakes, whereby the characters normally disappear during the "action" phase of battle.

It is believed that the developers did this to minimize time creating various animations, but many players feel like they would rather see their characters during battle.

Installation Instructions:

1. Copy/Merge the enclosed "Game" folder into <steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game

2. This should add the following files:

<steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game\Content\Paks\Game-WindowsNoEditor_P_Third_Person_Battles_vX.Y.Z.pak
<steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game\Binaries\Win64\ThirdPersonBattles_vX.Y.Z.asi
<steamapps>\Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake\Game\Binaries\Win64\dsound.dll

3. The mod is successfully installed ✔️

aclaracione
I want to make it clear that I’m not the creator of these mods. This guide is just meant to improve the overall gameplay and quality of life.

It’s a small collection of mods that make the game much more enjoyable, and I’ve personally tested them to make sure there are no compatibility issues.

These three mods work perfectly together, confirmed by me . If any updates or new mods come out, I’ll keep this guide updated. For now, this is the best setup available.

Big thanks to the modders who make all this possible and help make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
