Intro!
This guide will teach you how to share your custom pony characters for Slaughter Horse 2, and even upload them to the workshop if you're interested! It may look like a lot, but I'm more so just carefully laying out the steps so that those who are less technologically-inclined will still be able to figure things out.

It'll be assumed that you're using Windows OS, as I have no experience with Mac. I'd bet this is all possible on SteamOS if you're familiar with navigating proton's filepaths, though I haven't tried that.

QR Codes
When exporting a character, it will generate two .png files. We're mostly interested in the one with the fancy QR code in it.
On the left will be your character. On the right will be their associated "QR Code"; the black-and-white checker-board pattern, that's unique to this character. That pattern stores the character data, and is how they'll be shared!

Making your pony

From the main menu, press Customise

Click on the Customise Ponies button at the top (image of Snapper)

From this screen, you can make your own character.
Saving your pony
Before exporting your pony for sharing, you'll likely want to save them locally!

Press the SET button.

  • Select an empty slot on the roster.
  • Click the Save Disk at the bottom.

Then press the <-- Exit button to back out to the Customise Ponies screen.
Exporting your pony
As mentioned at the beginning of the guide, ponies are shared via "QR" codes. We need to export a QR code of our pony if we want to share them, so we'll do just that!

Press the QR code button on the right - the one with the red S for "save".

It'll save a .png file of your character, in your Documents/SlaughterHorse2/Ponies folder

Now if you look in your Documents/SlaughterHorse2/Ponies folder, you should find an image file named "sh2_CHARACTER_NAME.png". You can post this image on social media for others to download, or you can upload it to the Steam Workshop by continuing to follow this guide!
Uploading to Steam Workshop
So you've made your character(s), and now you want to post them to the Steam Workshop for others to install? It's easy! Though you must have created a QR code(s) as shown in the previous step.

Workshop Thumbnail
Before we go ahead and create the mod, we should prepare a thumbnail, so people have a general idea of what character they're downloading.
The requirements:
  • .png format
  • Square (same width & height)
  • Less than 1mb in size. (if you're stuck, resize your image, or use an online image compressor).
When you created a QR code of your character(s) from the steps above, it also generated a "portrait" image of your character. This can be found in your Documents/SlaughterHorse2/Ponies/portraits folder. Feel free to use the portrait(s) as your thumbnail!

Whatever image you decide on, it must be placed in a specific folder, and meet the specifications listed above. Once we dive in to the game's install directory below, I'll mention which folder you must place the image in, but in case you're looking for an immediate answer, the exact path (provided your game is installed in the default directory) is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Slaughter Horse 2\SteamWorkshopUploader\WorkshopContent

SteamWorkshopUploader.exe!
The program to upload custom ponies is found inside the install folder for Slaughter Horse 2.
By default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Slaughter Horse 2 on your computer, but a quick way to reach this path, is to simply:

  • Right-click on Slaughter Horse 2 in your Steam Library
  • Select Properties...

In the pop-up window:
  • Select Installed Files on the left
  • Press the Browse... button on the right

This will open Windows Explorer, taking you directly to the game's install directory.

Open the SteamWorkshopUploader folder.

Here, you'll find a program called SteamWorkshopUploader.exe - it's easy to use!

WHERE TO PLACE THE THUMBNAIL IMAGE
As mentioned above, you must place the workshop thumbnail image in a very specific folder for it to be recognised by the program. Place the .png you created / decided upon earlier, in the
Slaughter Horse 2/SteamWorkshopUploader/WorkshopContent folder. Now back to the guide...

SteamWorkshopUploader

Run SteamWorkshopUploader.exe. You'll be met with this UI created by ninilocrat.

In the bottom left corner:
  • Type in the name of your mod
  • Press the Create Item button (if nothing happens, remove any fancy characters from the mod name and try again).

You should notice your mod appear on the list to the left now. We'll come back to it!

Back in Windows File Explorer, you'll find a folder called WorkshopContent (specific path is Slaughter Horse 2\SteamWorkshopUploader\WorkshopContent. Inside, will be a folder named after your mod.

Now open the folder (for our example, the mod's name is Cool Ponies, and thus that's the folder's name too.

This folder will be empty, but it's your job to populate it with the contents of your mod. All you have to do is take the QR code .png file you exported from in-game earlier, and drag it in to here. Any QR codes .png files within this folder will be included with your mod when it's uploaded!

Now back to the SteamWorkshopUploader.exe, you'll see your mod's name on the list on to the left.

Click on it! Then, in the prompt where it says Preview Image Filename, type in the name of the image that you put in your Slaughter Horse 2\SteamWorkshopUploader\WorkshopContent folder.

For example, if your image is named cool_ponies.png, you would type exactly that. You must include the file extension (.png). After pressing Enter on your keyboard, the image should appear! Go ahead and give your mod a Title and Description too. Tags are currently unused, and you don't need to write anything in the "Enter change note..." field.

Make sure to change the Visibility from Private, or nobody will see your mod!!
Finally, you can go to your Steam Profile, then Workshop Items on the right to see your mod's Steam Workshop page! Go ahead and add screenshots or adjust the description if you like. It should be live!
Conclusion
Those are all the steps for creating and sharing custom ponies.
Let me know if I missed anything, or if you have any questions! Happy slaughtering!

I think it's because I followed you at some point but who knows. Steam has some pretty archaic features
