🗺️ Exploration & Map Running
1. Follow the main quests given by Jeff (the duck near the warehouse). Always prioritize his tasks.
2. Fully explore each map before moving to the next—every area has its purpose.
3. Keep a shovel as your melee weapon to dig hidden stashes (high drop rates). Not sure what they look like? Check near the electric tower in Map 1—they’re obvious. Mark stash locations on the map with right-click + color-coded icons.
4. When you die for the first time, you’ll lose equipped items, but your dog’s gear, melee weapon, and totems are safe. Always re-equip before retrieving your loot—if you die again without recovering it, everything resets. *Don’t rage quit! Use the backup save feature: Main Menu → Save Files → Restore Backup.*
5. If save-scumming breaks immersion, stash a backup gear set in the warehouse.
6. Recommended exploration loadout:
- Primary weapon + secondary for reload coverage
- 1 FirstAidKit + 3 bandages (bleeding control is crucial)
- ~100 rounds (ammo is replenished by killing ducks)
- 2 waters + 2 food items (travel light—resources are found on the go)
7. Always collect feathers—totems are extremely useful. Mid-game, carry multiple totems: stamina boost for exploring, bleed immunity for combat, etc.
8. After unlocking the fitness coach’s speed shot and homemade candy, combine them for a significant speed boost at low cost. Happy status increases speed, but it’s lost when hitting or being hit.
9. Use cardboard boxes to stealthily loot death stashes—enemies won’t see you unless you move in their sight.
📦 Items & Inventory
1. Keep most items—they’re useful for talents or gym upgrades. Mark needs with N, or check guides early. Use inventory mods to track quest items and stash only what’s needed.
2. Don’t sell valuables for quick cash—side quests pay well. Mid-game, money becomes plentiful.
3. Avoid hoarding low-tier items during runs. Let your dog carry heavy stuff—it doesn’t affect weight. Over-encumbered? Dodge-rolling is faster than walking.
4. Switch to empty hands (C) for faster movement in safe zones. Some melee weapons may increase speed? (Unconfirmed—needs testing.)
5. Loot is fully RNG—no fixed high-drop zones.
- Food: from food crates/corpses
- Medical: med crates/corpses
- Materials: toolboxes
- Miscellaneous: cabinets/containers
- Ammo: ammo boxes only
- Weapons/attachments: weapon crates
6. Dismantle unwanted totems into feathers.
7. Press Tab in the base to manage storage directly—no need to run to the warehouse.
8. Lock frequently used items (meds, food, ammo) with Lto avoid transferring them accidentally.
🔫 Combat Tips
1. Duck quacks mean enemies have spotted you. With headphones, the white circle around your character shows enemy directions.
2. Never engage in close range—enemies may use armor-piercing rounds.
3. NPCs fire in bursts—attack during their pauses. Dodge-rolling has invincibility frames.
4. Sandbags turn white when close, indicating they block enemy shots but break after sustained damage.
5. Red barrels explode after a few shots.
6. Right-click to aim at enemy heads for crits. Recoil control matters—keep the cursor on the head for crits, not the bullet trajectory.
7. If overwhelmed, retreat behind cover, switch to melee for speed, heal, and create distance—enemies pursue but are slower.
8. Use injectors before bosses for higher margin of error. Save them mainly for bosses.
9. Use the camera mode (P) for intel: peek into locked rooms, find exits, or scout fights in god mode.
10. Weapon range matters in high difficulties. Scoped rifles can spot off-screen enemies when aiming.
✅ Quests & Progression
1. Complete side quests—they unlock upgrades progressively. Some NPC quests are interlocked; if one stalls, advance others.
2. Use feathers in the basement to draw totems.
3. Avoid the basement boat before unlocking Map 3—it’s a one-way trip to a high-risk zone.
4. Series quests are recommended—they unlock key talents.
