Introduction
Understanding that Jump Space's movement is more than simply rappelling from point A to B is crucial when completing missions quickly and efficiently. It's the difference between dying to the bots or zooming past them all.

In this guide, I'll first give you some of the movement basics that will give you a solid foundation to build on. Then, I'll go into some more advanced strategies that'll get you speeding through every level in no time.
Basics: Momentum
Momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, or more simply, its speed. In this guide, you are that body!

When talking about your momentum in this game, or any, it's important to discern which way that momentum is. When rappelling to a grapple point, you get momentum in the direction of that point on the way there.

For example, if you're directly under a grapple point and grapple upwards towards it, you will gain upwards vertical momentum. Same goes for grappling to a point directly horizontal to you, as you will gain more horizontal momentum. Same goes for jet-driving to locations.

But most points aren't directly horizontal or vertical to you! Not to worry, those are simple too. Just break them down into horizontal and vertical momentum components.

Generally, we want more horizontal momentum because that gives us more speed relative to the ground. So we'll be focusing on that for this guide. It's important to conserve this horizontal momentum because faster is better!
Basics: Grappling
A grapple point in Jump Space is a spot on the environment or a ship that you can latch onto and be pulled towards at a high speed. This is one of the fastest ways to travel from point A to point B. However, just using it to zoom to its location is neglecting its true potential to get you to point C, which is wherever you want!

You can cancel the grapple early by pressing your jump button before you reach its destination. This is important and very powerful because you keep the momentum even after you cancel the grapple! This allows you to move at potentially very high speeds throughout the world wherever you want. You can even get to the ship in the Hangar doing this, but it's tricky! You have to conserve and redirect your momentum the way you want to go, which I'll show you how to do shortly.
Basics: Jet Drive
This is probably the most simple part of the guide, as it shares many of the same basics as the first two sections. However, just like grappling, it grants you a TON of speed that you can continue to use even when you can no longer use the jet drive. For example, jetting outside a facility but conserving the momentum while inside it can help you dodge enemies and complete objectives faster.
Basics: Jumping and Double Jumping
While the inputs are simple, many people that play this game don't realize that you can actually extend the duration of your jumps greatly by holding down the jump key and 'gliding' to the ground. This is very helpful in conserving momentum and can be used with both regular and in-air jumps.

You can travel very long distances without touching the ground by chaining together double jumps and holding down the jump key.

When in the air, your direction can be changed while in the air by either pressing the direction key in the direction you'd like to go, or by jumping while in the air. The second of those two options is the better one for reasons I'll explain later in this guide.
Advanced: Moving Faster
The basic idea of moving faster is to:

1. Get speed
2. Keep it (Conserve momentum)
3. Get where you wanna go!
Advanced: Getting Speed
There are two main ways to get speed. The first is to grapple and cancel it during its duration, leaving you with the momentum it granted you. The other is to use your jet drive and cancel it. Functionally, the speed you get is the same, but it's important to keep both of those in mind as opportunities to move quickly.
Advanced: Conserving Momentum!
Alright, so you've been seeing me use this term 'conserving momentum' over and over in this guide. This is because it's really the point of this whole guide.

To keep the speed (conserve the momentum) is tricky. When you are touching the ground, the speed is constantly decreasing due to friction. Therefore, your goal is to touch the ground as little as possible. To do this, you will utilize 'bunny-hopping' (b-hopping for short). If you've played games for a long time, you most likely know what this is, but if you don't, it essentially means jumping or 'hopping' right when you hit the ground for the purpose of staying airborne. This is kicked into overdrive when you hold down the jump key to 'glide' through the air for longer and use your double jumps to barely touch the ground at all. This will be your main method for conserving momentum. Jump the instant you touch the ground to reset your friction timer and stay airborne.
Advanced: Changing Direction
Finally, you'll need to change your direction if you don't want to just go in a straight line. To do this, you could simply hold down the direction key in the direction you want to go, but that will lose you a ton of speed. A way to do this without losing any speed is, right when you jump either in the air or on the ground, look in the direction you wanna go and you'll keep your momentum but convert it into a different direction.
Conclusion
I hope this has helped you and that you'll be able to complete missions faster using these techniques! Let me know if you have any suggestions.
