APPLYING THE MOD WITH SENPATCHER

1. Patch the game with SenPatcher.
2. Go to "SenPatcher-p3a-folder" in the linked folders and copy the three files inside.
3. Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails of Cold Steel\mods" and past the three files there.

(Note: If this method doesn't work, try the below method. It should always work whether you have SenPatcher or not.)

APPLYING THE MOD WITHOUT SENPATCHER

1. From the linked folders, copy every file from "dat_us (modded files)"
2. On your device in file explorer, navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails of Cold Steel\data\scripts\scena\dat_us" and paste all the files there.
3. When prompted, say "Replace all"

(Note: The "without" method will still work with SenPatcher, but it's less practical and means you have to replace the game's original files. The first method means the entire mod is condensed into a single file which doesn't replace the in-game files, so it is recommended everyone using SenPatcher uses the first method.)

REMOVING THE MOD

With SenPatcher: Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails of Cold Steel\mods" and delete "CS1-Chest-message-mod.p3a".

Without SenPatcher: Copy-paste every file from "Unedited data files" into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trails of Cold Steel\data\scripts\scena\dat_us"

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

These fanmade messages were created by the viewers of LHCollider, whose playthrough was the first to use this mod. Contributors include GuppyForce, myself, and two others who wish to remain anonymous. We hope you enjoy this addition!

The tool used to make this mod possible was TwnKey's SenScriptDecompiler, who also deserves major thanks!

NOTES

THIS MOD CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE SKY AND CROSSBELL ARCS. (I will include another warning in-game, so that anyone watching a playthrough of the mod can see it too.)

There are no spoilers for any games beyond Azure. Chests will only comment on events in the game that have already happened by the time you reach them.

If you find any issues, please tell me here on Steam by commenting on the guide! There's a good chance the fix will be very quick. Just specify where the faulty chest is, and I should be able to fix it. I playtested every chest against a checklist, but there is always a chance one slipped through the cracks. If there ARE still issues, I want to fix them as soon as possible, so your reports will be very welcome!

Thank you so much for using this mod. Happy chesting!

Hey, the new file seems to work! I'll keep playing through the game with the new file (currently playing through the Bareahard section) and will see if it's all good.

@CalokAndQkourQcuarante The instructions I used are here on the repository https://gitlab.com/riderofsmaug/ereboniachesticles/-/blob/main/README.md?ref_type=heads

Couple of things:

- I built the mod on the steam deck so there are a bunch of things related to proton and wine that you won't need if you are building on windows.
- I used the current release of SenPatcher (v1.3) to build the mod, not sure about the eArmada8's tool that you mentioned earlier.
- When I built the mod, only one file was generated. When you posted your build, there was an additional order file as well as an audio fix p3a file which I am not sure why they exist since I think the audio fix mod is generated by senpatcher as part of the patching process
- I have not tried your latest version, will try this out later tonight and check

@riderofsmaug Also I got a new one. Does it work now?

@riderofsmaug Can you give explicit instructions on how you made yours? Because I'll need to keep making edits, so I need to be able to do it myself, as my version will be the only up-to-date version.

I can't work out any possible reason why it doesn't work. I followed the instructions.

@CalokAndQkourQcuarante I replaced my p3a file with the one that you built and seems like it does not work. I tried it on a chest on the north kruezen highway 1 (Bareahard) which has the chest message about paying a Fie and it did not show the message when I had your version of the file installed (checked the load order and it is present in the load order). Reverted back to my built file and the message shows up.

Yup, I used the command prompt.

Respect for doing all this! :-)

@riderofsmaug Thank you! I was able to make my own version now in the linked folders with the help of eArmada8's tool, which should probably be the exact same as yours depending on when the edit was made (just one chest). I assume you used Command Prompt?

@TLK777 Not quite, the link is the line "CS1 Chest message mod" directly under the heading "The mod file".
