General Dynamics F-111F Aardvark

Beskrivelse
In the 1960s, the US Air Force required a tactical bomber capable of all-weather, low-altitude, high-speed, long-range strikes, while the Navy sought an interceptor capable of long-duration loiter for fleet air defense. However, numerous development issues prevented the design of a carrier-based interceptor version (the F-111B) from being realized, and the F-111 was ultimately adopted only by the US Air Force.

In addition to its use as a tactical and strategic bomber (the FB-111), the F-111 also evolved into an electronic jammer (the EF-111A). Development began in 1960, with its first flight in 1967. In its first few months in Vietnam, the F-111 suffered several crashes due to problems, earning pilots the nickname "Aardvark." However, after several major modifications and improvements, the North Vietnamese army nicknamed it "Death Roar" for its supersonic, low-altitude attack capabilities, along with its powerful and accurate attack capabilities.

After the US Air Force retired all of its F-111s in 1998, the tactical bombing mission was replaced by the F-15E "Strike Eagle," while the supersonic strategic bombing mission was replaced by the B-1 Lancer strategic bomber. Following the US retirement of the F-111, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) was the only aircraft still operating the type, incorporating retired US F-111Gs to maintain its strike capability. On December 3, 2010, the RAAF officially retired the F-111s and replaced them with 24 newly acquired F/A-18F Super Hornets. Thus, the F-111 officially ended its active service life.

The F-111 featured many innovative technologies of its time, including variable-geometry wings, afterburners, a turbofan engine, and a low-altitude terrain-following radar. Many of its designs influenced the thinking of Soviet engineers and the military industries of many other countries, and many of its forward-thinking features later became standard features in fighter aircraft architecture.

Thanks to him for allowing me to use his weapon model.

It requires SeaLifter pre-installation. If it cannot be opened or there is a material problem, please make sure that SeaLifter is installed correctly.

@Fireman1984 The F-111B was a one-off naval variant of the Vark that failed. Admiral Tom Connolly, the person the F-14 Tomcat (the F-111B's successor through the VFX program) is named after, killed it once he discovered how poorly it handled. The F-111B especially had issues carrier ops, specifically landing. As a result, the Navy canned the idea and started the VFX program, which would eventually give them the F-14.
