i was messing around with my hotline miami 2 files and found out that regular .vfs files don’t work properly if you run the game natively (without proton — which, by the way, makes gameplay noticeably worse). this happens because the file structure is different: instead of a single savedata.vfs, there are multiple files stored in
~/.local/share/HotlineMiami2
how it works
the idea works exactly like what this guy explains, but instead of one file, there are several. keep in mind that if you mess with something you don’t understand, your game can get completely fked, so always make a full backup first.

the linux version seems a lot less strict than the windows one — for example, levels/score you’ve never played/got are marked as
-1 or 0
and if you change that without a placeholder on windows, your game crashes, but on linux it’s usually fine (atleast for me).
the file
anyway, i made a file[drive.google.com] that basically has 100% of the game + s rank on all normal levels and most of hard mode, and it works only on linux. the file was inspired by this speedrun resource: https://www.speedrun.com/hm2/resources/n578k.
i CANT guarantee your game won’t crash. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

ps: there is a folder called "mods" and you can guess that's where you put your mods, i forgot to remove a single mod, all it does is change the tape playing at the beginning of the game and im too lazy to fix it, just remove it and you're ok
context
i lost around 75 hours of progress, so i made this to recover it without having to replay everything.
